  • Not that long ago, putting an optic on a pistol meant a Rube Goldberg of a mount and a huge honkin' sight that made the gun awkwardly top heavy. Not anymore! Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant shows us the Steiner MPS "Micro Pistol Sight," a robust, versatile red dot sight with a pleasantly wide field of view. You can mount the MPS to almost any pistol, including a Brownells BRN-180S®, as Caleb has done here. It fits the ACRO mount footprint, and plenty of adapters are available to fit other red dot sight cuts. The MPS has a 3.3 MOA dot that is windage and elevation adjustable in 1 MOA clicks up to 90 MOA. Hit one of the +/- brightness control buttons on the right-hand side to turn on the dot and segue into choosing one of the 6 daytime and 2 night vision brightness settings.
Steiner put the battery compartment on the top of the MPS, so you can swap the CR-1632 power cell without having to dismount the sight from the gun. Good news: the battery will typically last for 13,000 hours and the reticle automatically shuts off after 13 hours, so you shouldn't have to change the battery very often. "Great," you say, "But does it hold up?" Caleb gives us his assessment of the Steiner MPS red dot sight's build quality.

I own three. They are mounted on FN 510, Shadow System XR920, and Springfield Echelon. Phenomenal sight. The SS XR920 is my daily carry. With a street price of 450-500. Great sight at a reasonable price considering you are getting a tank of a sight.

@@Valorius the only feature this optic doesn’t have that other manufacturers do is shake awake. Not sure what else is “behind the curve” on this but holosun for example has a pretty storied history of their 509 breaking or being considerably less durable than the Acro, which really leaves this and the Acro as the only two real enclosed emitter options for a micro dot and the Acro had a lot of issues before the Acro P2 which was a recent addition. Like Sage Dynamics said, you don’t have to be the first to release a product, you just have to release the best product.

motion activation (Motac) technically is on and looking for any movement. Personally I have it on all my optics except a Delta Point Pro. No failures. Have never heard of a Motac failure. You're more likely to get a dead battery failure before a Motac failure.

Yes, I understand the relevance but the overall size and footprint of these enclosed optics leaves _a lot_ to be desired. Not to mention that they are aesthetically displeasing.
The ACRO, MPS, HE509, AEMS, ROMEO8, UH-1, etc. All of these optics share a common attribute. They all look like a ridiculous mailbox attached to your platform.
This just begs the question: What do you [the viewer] think will be the next big thing in optics?
