- The new Donkey Kong Country game for WiiU comes out this week in North America, so I figured I'd compile a video of the best recent corruptions from DKC 1,2 & 3. Edited from my live stream on www.vinesauce.com
You may notice the best corruptions occur with DKC1. It's easier to corrupt for a ton of different reasons. In layman's terms, the sequels have tighter, more efficient coding that makes corruptions a bit more difficult. That happens a lot with late-era console games.
I'm aware that DKC3 was released in 1996. I copied and pasted the previous text and forgot to change the year. Sorry about that!

The reason it formats "Pira teP anicLL" is because it means to say "Find the token!" but the corruption replaces the location of the bonus intro text with the level selection text. Due to the bonus screen text format, the first word must have four characters, the second must have three, and the third must have six. The L's are added because of the extra space for two more characters.

NocturneofSerenity No seriously, they should have GlitchyPastas where people describe in gruesome detail what adventures they have had in corrupted game files and add a few horror elements from normal CreepyPastas.
I am not going to lie though, that made me laugh.
Actually, I'd think it'd be way better if more pastas brought the creepy stuff from videogames into a real context, I.E. being abducted by a symbiotic monster to "save" a world of bizarre and inexplicable horrors where you're not even sure you're doing the right thing (Monster Party), a time loop where the same three days before the world gets destroyed repeat over and over again and you have to investigate various sinister/disturbing structures to stop it (Majora's Mask) or even just wandering around a creepy wasteland filled with inexplicable creatures and minerals (Minecraft). Those could actually be pretty cool.

Crankys record was broken. Donkey Kong missed his target and fell to his death, however, his radio broke Crankys record player. Cranky was so upset that he felt that he had nothing left to live for, so he jumped off the tree and killed himself.
This is why Cranky is a ghost in DK64.

At the beginning we see Cranky, desperately holding on to the last of his sanity, represented by the old music box. We then see Donkey Kong, the Harbringer of Insanity, followed by insanity itself, represented by the boom box. The boom box destroys the music box, severing the last of Cranky's touch with reality. Cranky only stands there, confused by the sudden loss of his grip on reality, only to realize what has occurred, and plunges into the dark abyss below, never to return.

Ahh i see... That's odd, I've never heard of an Emulator being able to emulate cartridge tilt too since that's a hardware thing!
MikeyTaylorGaming It's not cart tilting. The program they use was custom made for them and causes glitches by randomly re-writing and scrambling the games code. The program itself is called the Vinesauce Corrupter if your interested in downloading and trying it out yourself.
Ahhhhh I see, that's cool. I'm sure that'd lead too alot of crashes too if the wrong thing were put in the wrong place! I'll check it out. Thanks!

I would just like to mention, for all those who aren't aware: these are all (or, at least, almost all) fan-submitted. In reality, Donkey Kong: Country is extremely difficult to corrupt, as the game simply freezes or crashes 99% of the time when you try to get past the level select screen. I witnessed a stream where Vinny attempted to corrupt this game, and there were only one or two instances where he got past the level select screen.
tl;dr - DKC is almost impossible to corrupt properly, so Vinny relied on the power of the fans for this video.
I ran into the same thing. As far as I'm concerned, the real fun in corrupting DKC is corrupting the title screen, seeing what kind of nightmarish music you can produce.
That may be true, but if you use save states properly, you can get past the title screen even if the game crashes there 99% of the time. Because of this knowledge, I've seen quite a few good corruptions when I was playing around with this game. The only downside is that I have to use the save states to get into the game every time and I don't have a cool title screen to check out in the process.
