Cloris Leachman was one of a kind and so multi-talented. I don't know how anyone could work with her without cracking up every time she opened her mouth. A true scene stealer. RIP Cloris, you will be missed.
"We are so poor, we don't even have our own language! JUST DIS STOOPID ACCENT!!!" "She's right, she's right, we all talka like Maurice Chevalier! Ahuhuhuhuh!" "Ahuhuhuhuh!"
The film was fun as a whole, but this scene was by far my favorite one. My next favorite scene being when Da Vinci was painting The Last Supper. Mel Brooks is a genius.
It's hard to keep a straight face when you're a high schooler reading "A Tale of Two Cities" for the first time, with this movie still fresh, and you come across references to Madame Defarge, knitting.
I remember 3 years ago in 10th grade, my world history 2 teacher (he's one of my favorite high school teachers) showed this to us and I was laughing so hard!
Perfect timing. If there was even the slightest pause between saying “high note” and her belting it out, it wouldn’t have been as funny. Trust me I’m a doctor.
Though absolutely funny, they at least captured some historical essences of pre-Revolutionary France. Showed this in class as a fodder for them to understand why the French revolution began. Some factual truths, lots of humor. Class understood better.
For Mel to hire Cloris Leachman in some movies was signficiant. Leachman worked on show which saw her play the landlady to a fornicating Mary Tyler Moore character which differed from Mel's so-called "best friend" Carl Reiner's Moore character which was a traditional housewife. In the 1970s, its like she was revolutionary James L. Brooks' way of connecting with Mel Brooks. RIP Cloris Leachman
I don't think using the word "fornicating" when referencing Mary Tyler Moore is accurate at all. It makes it seem like the character was a whore/slut. Did she date? Absolutely. She was a single woman out on her own. The MTM show was a show about women's independence and liberation. It was about a woman living and working in a "man's world" and making a name for herself. "You're gonna make it after all." But yes, Chloris Leachman was exceptional in it as were the supporting cast.
@@danielechebarria8733 Oh no. You even see casing for birth control pills at times. It was not only women's liberation, but also cultural revolution. It was clearly intended to go against Catholic decency, something which was also never challenged when she was with the family-friendly Dick Van Dyke Show. Not to invoke religion, but being set in the city that was also Billy Graham's business home was more revolutionary than working with hypocritical atheist Carl Reiner. I think Reiner's so-called "best friend" Mel Brooks was even willing to consider the impact of the James L. Brooks-made Mary Tyler Moore when he let Cloris Leachman be in his movie Young Frankenstein when she was still playing Phyllis Lindstrom. I wish Mel would overpower censors like People For The American Way and acknowledge what even his Simpsons guest appearance all-but gave away. Norman Lear's not even been the same since he created that group. Both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and All In The Family where champions of the ideas of The Great Society and focused less on extreme, unneeded libertarianism for the privileged.
Just discovered Baguette aka the woman with the pipe next to her plays Barney Harwood’s Auntie Barbara in Bear Behaving Badly who’s also Mr. Prank the ice cream man’s boss 😂
Yeah, agree French revolution was very sad thing in the history of France. France on the other hand needed something to shock them and so they bagan as anew table! Sorry if I misinterpret the French history but if some1 knows better why French revolution happened please post comment to me! Thx and peace =)!
I was born in France before the french revolution and I can confirm that this is how things went down
top comment.
It eez true!

“Let’s end this meeting on a high note” gets me every time!

The guy selling "nothing" is one of my favorite bits. It's just so simple, so stupid, so perfect.
Well, it IS a Mel Brooks movie!
"We are so poor, we don't even have our own language! JUST DIS STOOPID ACCENT!!!"
"She's right, she's right, we all talka like Maurice Chevalier! Ahuhuhuhuh!"
"Ahuhuhuhuh!"
I’m dying every time I hear this line! Soooo underrated!

The Last Supper painting with Mel in the background. 😆A lot of funny scenes in this movie. That one in particular had me laughing out loud.
Or when he is trying to gain Vnemployment Insvrance 😂 Bea Arthur stole that scene ❤
@@xXLunatikxXlul there were a lot of great comedians in that movie, I really loved it.
We end most things on a high note in my household thanks to this gem of a movie
R.I.P. Cloris Leachman, thanks for the laughs. Jan 26, 2021.
It's hard to keep a straight face when you're a high schooler reading "A Tale of Two Cities" for the first time, with this movie still fresh, and you come across references to Madame Defarge, knitting.
Always good to end a meeting on a high note So long Cloris, RIP.
Ah the "high note" is classic Brooks!
I remember 3 years ago in 10th grade, my world history 2 teacher (he's one of my favorite high school teachers) showed this to us and I was laughing so hard!
We all sound like Maurice Chevalier. Honh, honh, honh!
Still disappointed that Rue de Merde wasn't in Assassin's Creed: Unity.
"Nice dead rats for sale!" So that's why Remmy wants to be a chef, so people will stop eating his friends!!!
🤣🤣🤣😆 maaann she said "so poor we don't even have a language just the stupid accent" oh my god I was dying 🤣🤣😭😭
I got nothing for sale. That had me laughing. Mel Brooks tried really hard, i like him for that.
Gloria Leachman was one of a kind. I loved her in Raising Hope.
R.I.P., Cloris Leachman. Madame Defarge wouldn't have been the same if another actress had played her.
I never get tired of it.
Huh. Didn't know that about "Elephant Man." Loved that movie: it was touching and beautiful. Mel did good on that one.
Great, but 2nd fiddle to the French taunting of Arthur & his knights in Monty Python & The Holy Grail
I agree! That was the best scene in movie history
Can't wait all just agree they're both funny? Why is it always a competition 🤷🏿♀️
Rest In Peace to Cloris Leachman. Funny funny lady.
It's a very accurate depiction of modern Boston.
Chicago, New York, and California
We all talk like Maurice Chevalier. A haw haw haw

Am French but! I have to say its very funny.
LOL!!!
IT'S GOOD TO BE THE KING
Wow, what a grungy time & place the French-Rev was
If we take Madamme de Farge's Inn seriously, then her inn started at around 1400's, mostly during the time of Charles VII (Joan of Arc).
I am still coughing up carpet lint from the first time i saw this movie back in the day, i spent that much time on the floor laughing my ass off.
Did anyone imitate your cough? ;) 2:53
King LouEEE ...r.i.p. Cloris
Later Mel Brooks as King Louis 🤴 'It's Good to be the King!'
Repeat after me COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH
(All) COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH
ROFLMAO!!!!!
Now, let us end this meeting on a high note

That's Bella Emberg, who made us laugh on The Benny Hill Show.
Hey, that is my country right now!!
The Nothing Vendor reminded me of the Professor from Gilligan's Island.
Hahaha...LOL...what a candid comic portrayal...a trademark of sir Mel brook's brilliance in comedy...and lots of stupidity...ending in high notes...
I myself ran out of wool two weeks ago!

@bluesow "The Elephant Man", he just never credited his name as producer, because he didn't want anyone thinking it was a comedy.
That's where we're heading now in 2023
I love MawMaw!!!!!
We can't even afford our own language!
My favorite parts are 02:30 to 03:25. Hilarious!
its the voice from Babe!
Quick meeting, wasn't it?
It's where " French it up " started . . .
6/27--Jack Carter, the rat salesman, died. Great comedy legend. RIP, Jack.
I wonder if merchants even sold garbage like that in the years prior to the revolution?
RIP cloris Leachman 1926-2021

He don't get out
What's it gonna be HUMP or DEATH
Absolutly nothing to sale! hahaha, gimme 1 nothing man
Sometimes got to wonder if democracy is all that claims to be.
Pretty sure there was a reason the French tried to bring back Emperor Napoleon and gave Ol’ Robespierre a severance package.
@mcpru52= Ha ha, Shit street, ha ha. Now, let's end this meeting on a high note. Eeeeeeheeee!
I was hoping to find the scene where they pronounce FRAH - NCE properly. Or was it another movie ???
Lol high note
LOL, nothing for sale LMAO
What was it with Mill Brooks and rape jokes?
Well before rapists became Hollywood producers, actors, and politicians people used to make fun of them.
Have no idea what you're talking about 😂
Rien que l'introduction en présage beaucoup "rue de merde" ^^
What is nothing?
We should never have menntioned eating cake
Shit Street, funny.
Rue De Merde would be a filthy place to live. Not to mention the smell.
"Rue de merde" = "Street Shit" in 0:23
France wasn't that !
