- McCartney's seemingly simple bass line is actually a lot more complicated than it looks! He made slight variations to the main line that made it difficult to perform, but I believe I have accurately captured every note, even down to his mistakes in the outro! I have seen it said that John used his Rickenbacker and George his Gretsch Duo Jet on this song, but I clearly hear them both using the J-160E. I believe that John played his acoustic while George played it plugged into the Vox. Following along with the original, I also added heavily reverbed stick clicks in the middle eight. I performed all of the instruments on this track, so everything you are hearing is me.
Instruments Used:
Guitars: Gibson J-160E Standard
Bass: Hofner 500/1 '62 Reissue Violin Bass
Drums: Native Instruments Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl - Hudba
for years ive been looking for someone to cover beatles like this, even correct instrumentation on most videos too. im amazed
Thank you! I really appreciate those very kind words. Stay tuned to see a new guitar!
Got it now pal .I just found this channel and I'm going through every Beatles' sons he cover's right now.Lovely way to pass some time.
These are great to sing along to :-)
Thanks! I hope you enjoy.
+mattiboo Very much! I'm just learning, you make it look so easy! I'm finding it quite hard to change chords quickly and smoothly, plus my strumming is rubbish!
Just keep practicing and you'll get it!
+mattiboo I will. I've been learning on a nylon stringed acoustic and the other day I bought my first steel stringed one - but now the chords don't sound at all correct on the steel strings! It's so odd.
I will teach you how to play guitar on steel strings
Thirty-six people do not want to know a secret.
They can go listen to some other guy now.
We do like but we don't like mistakes and he did a lot in the intro
Duh dah duh...
Apparently after 4 years there has only been one more dislike
I do
Mattiboo you have again taken us back in time. Thank you sir.
i love thes e full band covers! awesome!
The best !!!!!
That was the BOMB
That J 160 is beyond words
What a sound
Thank you!
Nice, catchy tune to sing along to. Great job.
Awesome job dude, i was searching for a full cover and this will be perfect to sing to my girl thanks dude
Glad to hear this helped you!
Excellent!! 🙏🙏
Love it
Nice job!
Ok thanks mattiboo I am thankful for the advice and I will have a look at that matter after my guitar arrives on Christmas Day. :) hope u have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year and I hope to make more videos once I have the gretsch. This will make recording much easier because the classical guitar can't really be heard over the backing tracks. For example if u take a look at my attempt at "if I needed someone " you might see that I am struggling to be heard over George's rickenbacker 12 string. The gretsch will make it much easier for recording purposes as well as moving on in my guitar skill. Merry Christmas!
Ceebster
My very first fav beatles song
Muy bueno felicitaciones
"do you want to smoke a cig'rette"?
Dude that dude...
You play very good
Thanks for your version. Just a question, where did you buy your Gibson guitar? I would like to buy one like that.
At :25 and 1:31 respectively, are John and George playing an F (John) and an Amin7 (George)?
Yep, John is playing an F and George is playing an Amin7.
its a beatles things
Quien mas canta estos videos xD
Yo xd
Awesome job !
Thanks!
mattiboo may I ask what's the chord you're playing at the start at 0:03?
Jose Miguel Alvarez That would be an A minor.
mattiboo Ty!
Where did u find that shirt? :o
I wish I could tell you! I got it as a gift and I don't know where they got it!
Hey Matt, what strings did you use for your EJ-160e?
Electric guitar 11 or just acoustic guitar strings?
at the start of the video is which is lead and which is rhythm and then the first guitar after the intro is that the lead or rhythm?
I live in new York and I really want a j160-e but they are crazy prices, did you get a good price or something? @mattiboo
I was thinking of getting that J-160E but it's cost way too much for me I can't afford $2k lol so I think I'm just gonna get a Epiphone EJ-200CE.. I heard they have kinda similar sound and it's way cheap.
Can i use this record on my own video? I want to sing it with your record. 🌾
How do you make these covers? How do you record with camera and guitar/mic?
I record the audio with a microphone into Garageband and then sync up my recorded audio with the video using Final Cut Pro.
Your tuning sounds different. Is it in standard or did you have to adjust to something for this song?
Green Thunder the a is at 432
What year was your J-160 built?
0:12 Is the bottom guitar playing a B6?
Yes.
Esta en afinación estándar?
What strings do you use on your bass
I still have the stock Hofner flatwounds! They last a very long time and have that classic '60s bass sound!
mattiboo how did you find John's part in this song if it's buried in the mix.
Also that bit around 00:34-00:36 with the A and B with the funny run in it, I cant's seem to get the strumming right. Please help?
The trick is to hit the A string with the C note and hammer on to C#, then play the A chord on the D, G, and B string, then hit the A string and do the hammer on again.
+mattiboo What's the name and model of your headphones in this video, Twist and Shout and yellow submarine.
Thomas Pappalar
Nice work. The Gibson J160E was used quite a bit on the Please Please Me LP. A lot people, including me, thought George was using his Gretsch Duo Jet, and John, with his Rickenbacker 325, more than they actually were used. Paul has a cool bass part on "Secret". Always melodic though initially, he felt lumbered with the bass.Did you use your Audio Technica 2035 to record the instruments? Seems like a decent alternative to buying (or renting) a Neumann U47.
Yes! They both used their J-160Es quite a lot on the first album. It makes for an interesting sound to have the electric guitar sound coming from the left speaker and the acoustic guitar leakage onto the vocal mic on the right channel. I used the AT2035 to record the instruments in this video and it does have a very nice condenser sound that works well for what I am trying to do. A Neumann U47 is very expensive!
Thanks for following up with me.
Yes, I've seem Nuemann U47s priced at $15,000. I believe that is a tube microphone. Nuemann makes a U47 FET version for about 4,000.
matt, on the track: The Night Before from Help, which Beatle (if you know) played the chord of Gm6 following Bm
How long have you been playing the guitar?
I think about 8 years now as of 2019!
Was this in standard tuning?
No; its a hair below E.
Yes, the entire Please Please Me album is at A = 432 Hz due to tape speed issues.
Anyone please tell me what is 0:25 chord is thanks
i think its Am7 on 5th flat
mattiboo your awesome. I need help switching chords i cant seem to get it can you give me some tips?
Move each finger slowly and individually until you get an understanding for what needs to happen when you change chords. Try to find what fingers don't move during a chord change and keep them planted. Don't give up, you'll get it with some practice!
chords please
