    With the window closed and heating set to 22 degrees celsius it took me 30 seconds to write this comment before posting...
    I have seen many reviews about the a6400 and what I like about yours is how in depth your fast paced reviews are!

    You are my favorite photo/video tech reviews/information channel on CZcams. I love that you are no nonsense. What a title. I’ve never heard pointless information from your channel, I’ve never heard cliché noise that is meant to draw more appeal do your channel. I can’t say enough about how refreshing your channel is.

      Thanks, bro! I don’t give out compliments lightly. I honestly have probably made a total of a dozen comments on any video in my life. It’s truly hard to find content like that. I only found you a couple months ago, and I just can’t get sick of your content. But, thanks, man! I’m glad that voicing my thoughts made a difference in your day! Keep doing your thing man. You made mine by responding. Blessings.

    Damn Gerald, I truly appreciate how methodical you are, testing all the permutations. It’s like you thought about all the possible criticisms of your testing method in advance and ruthlessly smacked them down pro-actively. Keep that up! Also thanks for focusing on things no one else was doing instead of making us weed through a long review covering identical information that is in videos everyone has surely already seen. Gerald is indeed crazy.

      Gerald Undone awesome... I was at a local camera shop today and asked how the A6400 was selling and they said it sold out the first week. However they were not fans of Sony and I felt like I was the only person under 40 in the room. Is there a stigmatism against Sony being that they have younger fans? I moved from Cannon because I can get everything in one camera with Sony. All I could do was smile and be polite as they took my money for an accessory 😂

    IBIS doesn’t do much at all on the a6500 for video. Slight if anything, yet I turn it off often in different situations. For photography, it can help. But the 6400 seems to be aimed more at video anyway, or at least more people want it for that. Selling my two 6500s!

      @@geraldundone You're more than welcome. I've been an Indy filmmaker for about 15 years now and I'm an old school guy. I've shot with consumer handycams (as an inexperienced young man), Panasonic DVX's, Sony pro 3ccd chip video cameras. So I have been very reluctant to make the jump to DSLR's to shoot with. This camera has everything I need.

    Thanks Gerald, even your colour sensibilities with your main talking-head shot make for a pleasant watch. Really nice work here. This episode has helped confirm for me that I need to replace my 6300 with the 6400. Aside from the overheat issues, my a6300 started giving me the dreaded "writing to the memory card was not completed correctly" loop (have you ever seen this? My research says it's an issue for some other Sony "a" models as well). I wonder if having to install various tweaks and hacks to allow for unlimited record time etc has made the system unstable - so I figure that the 6400, not needing these hacks, is going to be much more reliable. Cheers from Oz...

    Such a great review on a camera I’ve been eyeballing since the announcement. Unfortunately once I converted 24 C to F (thanks google) my heart sank. I shoot a lot in the summer here in Texas where it can often get to 40 degrees C...and I’m usually shooting around hot grills and smokers and my stuff is outside for long periods of time. If that camera ever gets too hot in 24C temps, I don’t think this is the right camera for me. Thank you for saving me some headaches and for another top notch review.

    Good effort by Sony, but the XT30 makes me wonder why anyone would want the a6400. Also, Gerald, regarding the videos and the saying "quality over quantity", how on earth do you manage to make the videos so fast without dropping the quality? Unreal.

    • @johnangelo8067

      @Nutimatkni Před 5 lety +1

      @@johnangelo8067 Ah, that's actually a great point. Sigma 16mm is pretty much why I loved my a6500, but Fuji has been busy creating a fantastic catalog of lenses. However, nothing in comparison what is available for the E-mount. You could always use adapters but never used one so I can't comment on that.

      Price of sigma 16/30/56 1.4 is about half cheaper than fuji lenses. A6400 body price is also cheaper than XT30. Fuji glass and body is good but price is biggest concern here in Malaysia

    • @rohitkhetarpal2945
      @rohitkhetarpal2945 Před 5 lety

      Sigma lenses - great cost advantage against Fuji equivalents. In fact Sony 50 1.8 is great. Plus, no recording limit - Fuji XT30 has 10 min 4K recording limit! Outside of ergonomics and profiles (like Eterna) - what does Fuji has going for itself? If cost is not a matter, then Fuji i believe can be said to have better lenses and color - but Sony seems to be one up on Fuji on this one (including auto focus).

    I don’t usually write comments, but this is an outstandingly useful, info-packed review on the a6400, and I have watched many, many reviews. Well done, Undone!
    The overheating tests and the handheld shutter speed sharpness comparison to tripod shots were my favorite parts of your review.
    I have been looking for a solution to camera overheating for my a6500 and a6000 (both tweaked with the OpenMemories app to bypass the 30-min video record time limit), and I am considering gaff taping an Anker PowerCore 20100mAh battery (with 2 USB ports) to my camera stand and plugging the battery into my camera (with screen out), and a USB-powered fan aimed up behind the camera screen.
    Again, outstanding review, and very solid advice on the a6400!

Maybe it's because I learned photography on an old slr with a waist level finder which is also in the middle of the camera because I really enjoyed that way of photography

    Today, I used my new a6400 for a couple hours as a 'third' camera (on a monopod) along side its bigger brothers, my FS5 and A7III on tripods. The a6400 was nimble and quick. On 6:26 you say that the A6000 is the only Sony mirrorless camera that does not split files into 4GB parts. I can't confirm that on my A7 III, because I shot recently 11 minutes in 4K and it captured just one 8GB video file.

    Yes, 100% on the articulating screen out to the side. One thing I LIKE about the Sony aps-c cameras is that the LCD display DOESN'T flip out to the side. It keeps the camera "footprint" small. I've since owned a camera that has one, and I can see the benefits, but if I was given a choice between two almost identical cameras with the only difference being the screen....the one on the Sony aps-c cameras wins, for me.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  Před 5 lety +1

      I agree. I also like what Fuji's done with the portrait flip up as well, but this new a6400 screen is great!

    • @FutureChaosTV
      @FutureChaosTV Před 5 lety

      On the flip out screens you don't have to flip it out. You can simply have it as a backscreen. So, I don't get your point.

    • @PostColorGear
      @PostColorGear Před 5 lety

      @@FutureChaosTV but if you have it low to the ground, and you want to articulate the screen up towards your eyes you don't have any option other than to swing it out to the side. in reality, unless you have it parallel with your eyesight you always want to have that screen facing up towards you unless you're shooting overhead.

    I am asking this specifically about the a6400, but it is probably the same for the ZV-E10, so you might want to copy this to that camera test. I have been using Picture Profiles for stills, so that I can get an idea of what resulting video would turn out like. That way, I can start with a still and see what adjustments I need to get my result when I go back to make a video. I generally use the HLGs as a start point because it means I do not need big changes. This morning I recorded an orange sky and I wanted some foreground, and that took a big adjustment and left a lot of noise in the foreground. So I think next time I will probably start with Slog2. That raised an interesting question. I use the PPs but with ARAWs. It seems to me that SLog2 might change what is stored in the ARAW compared to HLG3 (which is what I used this morning). Do the Gammas change the ARAW contents or are they all applied after the raw leaving the ARAWs pretty much the same?

    Got the a6300 instead, 5 batteries, and a gimbal... oh yeah and a 16000mah battery pack. Yeah i'm all set. Not to mention EOS HD color profiles. I won't be upgrading my video rig for a very long time. Now to save for those G master lenses.
    Quite a lot of people seemed to complain that while is a picture profile they couldn't reduce the ISO to below 800 on the a6300 but i got around that by going to "auto white balance" then setting the lowest too 200 (can't go any lower) and the highest to also 200 or anything lower than 800 so you won't exactly need to invest in an expensive ND Filter. Bit cumbersome it wasn't all in and easy to do but it's there and it's worked for me. If Sony has some of the features already on their cameras in an indirect manner, then they release a newer body with those same features just much easier to find. The reason i didn't switch to the a6400 was because i really don't like flippy screens and i can connect to the a6300 via WiFi and compose how so ever i want, the auto focus is honestly friggin' quick still and the cheaper third party lenses like Tamron and Sigma work like a charm. Until i personally see a real reason to switch to this model i'm really impressed with the a6300 for now.
