LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! I am a 54yr old housewife and needed to get this lock installed on my daughters 2015 Tacoma 4x4. It was Christmas eve and we were getting ready for a blizzard here in Oklahoma. My husband wasnt going to make it home in time before the blizzard and she was going to leave for San Diego in a day. I decided to tackle it myself in that the theft of tailgates for the Tacoma in CA is huge they told her. She is in the Navy and the vehicle is parked a lot. This was great and easy and very informative. THANKS SO MUCH! I DID IT!

Installing along while watching took about 20 minutes. Thank you very much for this instructional video. Handle looks awesome and a little extra peace of mind from thieves.

This video helped me get the job done very quickly. Read the instructions, watched the video and 20 minutes I was done. I had an extra complexity. My tailgate was locked and closed with a broken latch so sliding the back plate off was impossible. After taking the screws off I managed to pry open a gab just enough to use a screw driver to flip the latch inside opening the tailgate. Then the plate slid off as shown and I could finish the job.

Excellent vid and demonstration, used it entirely for the installation in my 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport.
The only part that made me sweat a little was when I inserted the key at the very end and it turned only 5 degrees clockwise and wouldn’t keep rotating, I thought “ah damn, really?” but went counter clockwise and then rotated clockwise ~ 180 degrees & then stopped. I checked it several times and it was GTG.
    Hopefully it lasts.
Contrary to a lot of what I’ve read, parts were well made and finish was perfectly fine, not “cheap” as some have described on forums.

+boogie3478 Update: I'm reinstalling my factory tailgate handle. This Pop N Lock gets stuck easily if warmed by the sun, making it very difficult to open the tailgate.

Easy install and worked until the internal pin broke resulting in no way to get into my locked truck with a cover on the back. Reading the reviews on Amazon I see a LOT of people have had an issue with the plastic pin used in this lock failing. Complete waste of money!

I must add, that the Pop & Lock does not feel as durable as the factory so I told her to hang on to the old one just incase it wore out, but it does work. Time will tell.

Mine only worked for 2 years, then wouldn't lock. Took it apart and cleaned, lubricated and tightened it up and worked again but only for a month. I happened to be on a trip and needed it to lock. Wouldn't recommend it. One tacoma forum recommended the pl5500 instead which supposedly works better.

  • @robbarber7253

The gasket from the old one doesn't line up with the new one and it's missing a bunch of plastic pins to secure the gasket. Also you can see daylight through the tailgate it doesn't fit perfectly. Not impressed with the quality.

+Ivanross Sumayang I would say some clear outdoor caulking that adheres to plastic and metal. Your hardware store should be able to tell you.
