Hi, Chelsea. I am Pennsylvania Dutch and grew up eating rolls like this. We call them sticky buns. We have always used honey or maple syrup instead of the corn syrup and the buns are wonderful. I so enjoy your videos!

I’m 65, and my mother made these for all 6 of us kids our whole childhood… (our recipe never used corn syrup)
My mother got the recipe back in the mid 50’s from an elderly neighbor when my family lived overseas…..she was from Germany and said it was “her” mother’s recipe. 😊. I remember watching mom make it quite often and it was amazing! 😊
(I wasn’t born till 1958 so mom had a couple years to perfect it practicing on my older siblings 😂🤪)
I made them for my children and now my daughter makes them for her girls. ❤️

You can tell how comforting working with the sowing was for you. I have lived in town, most of my life, but was raised on a farm. That said, I have never been without a garden of some variety, even if it’s in pots. My father always said, “you can get the girl off the 15:38 farm, but you can never quite get the dirt from under her fingernails.”

If it was a British(uk) Chelsea Bun it would probably use Golden Syrup and not Corn Syrup. Corn Syrup in a harsher taste than Golden Syrup.

Chelsea buns are very English. Chelsea is a posh area of London. They are usually iced on top with sultanas in.

This will be my first time watching you plant your seeds, for the garden, but will be my second time watching you harvest all of your garden. I just loved the 2023 season, and can hardly wait for this year, to see what you get. I just loved watching it grow, and being harvested, and to watch you can everything.

Chelsea buns originally are British. From Encyclopaedia Brittanica: The buns date to the 18th century and were created in the Chelsea area of West London by the Chelsea Bun House (closed 1839), a favourite haunt of the British royal family. The sticky treats are sweet, buttery, and dense, similar to a cinnamon roll. Yours look delicious!

The whole point of Chelsea buns are the raisins and icing on top ! It is a quintessentially English morning bun, usually taken at Elevensies with your tea or coffee as an alternative to Cake ( or as well as if you were indulging) . Usually bought at the Bakers when you went in for your Daily bread . Such a yummy smell when it's cooking and delicious if it was still slightly warm from the oven and the icing was a little melty still !

Oh Chelsea, I throw all sorts of seeds into the beds of my (much smaller) outdoor under cover growing area in February (UK) to restart the soil. I don’t eat what grows personally because little visitors run riot in there. However, I do pluck out what survives to transplant outside into beds before I chop at ground level to make room for the toms and peppers/chillies/ginger/lemon grass.
It’s a great way to rehydrate the soil. For some reason the plants attract moisture and life into the soil without watering the otherwise dry overwintered alternative.

I just wanted to share with you. I had my son-in-law order me this cookbook that you got the Chelsea bun recipe out of. I wanted to let everybody know that he found me a brand new copy. It is a re-print and I checked it against the recipe for the Chelsea buns and it’s the same and it had the same things in it that you read. I paid $13 for it US and that included shipping. He ordered it from Milestone books from Harrisonburg Oregon. I just thought if anybody wanted a copy of it that they could order it from here. I’m just now starting to look through the book and it has some amazing recipes in it. I can’t wait to start cooking recipes out of it. Thanks again for helping me find this cookbook. My husband’s grandfather was raised Amish but never joined the church so there are a lot of familiar recipes that I remember eating from family reunions. Thanks again.

I remember having school dinners back in the 70s and Chelsea buns were the highlight of the week. However, I'm pretty sure the traditional English recipe doesn't use potatoes. We always used left over mash to make potato cakes which we toasted and spread with butter and i still love them. They're also great with fried eggs and bacon. Not sure how i feel about them in a Chelsea bun, but I'd like to try it. And strictly speaking, they should have dried fruit inside. Substitute sultanas or currants if you don't like raisins. 👍

I was looking at a similar vlog recently where pecan growers were discussing this very issue. They say they grew up pronouncing it pee can, but they now pronounce it pee khan. Almost all the rest of the world other than parts of America pronounce it pee can. I’m Irish that’s how we and the English pronounce it. We call the thing under the bed so you don’t have to get up at night a potty😊❤

You will be interested to know you can still buy Chelsea buns in most bakeries throughout England. I loved them until I fell in love with cinnamon rolls from Cinnabon back in the 1990s when I lived in Canada. Then they opened a store in London, in Leicester Square and I would purchase from there. Now they have 11 stores spread over England. I still like Chelsea buns (originated in London in 1700) as they have fruit and I can't imagine eating them without fruit! Do your family not like mince pies, Christmas pudding or Christmas cake? A great video as always and I might just research a little into Amish recipes as I am interested. There is a website called Mennonite Girls Can Cook with over 3,000 recipes that I am ploughing my way through at the moment. Lol, other people read a book at bedtime, I read recipes!

Great video, your skills in the garden & the kitchen & your video skills are delightful.
What cookbook are you using, I would like to see if I can find it in one of our old book stores. Thanks

Hahaha... I just commented the same thing, then I read your comment. I guess it was an error in her editing. Ill look at other recipes & see how long to bake.

I am the only one that drinks kombucha.
Can I just do 1/2 gallon instead of gallon by following your instructions?
