    The mighty Porsche 956 was the creme of the field in the 1983 World Sportscar Championship, and the works Rothmans-backed team was the one to beat. Despite impressive challenges from Lancia Martini and the privately-entered Porsches of Joest and Kremer, the down-to-the-wire championship battle would be between works Porsche drivers. In this clip we head to Round 2 of the series at Silverstone, where Stefan Bellof produced a stunning qualifying lap time that would have put him on the 4th row of a Formula One grid that year, let alone pole position in a factory Group C car!

    Stefan was the only driver who came close from the raw talent and skills to the by far greatest driver ever Jim Clark. He was surely better than Senna, clearly seen at Monaco in the wet 1984.
    Even without great statistics, for every connaisseur, this guy from Gießen in Germany is without doubt among the greatest driver of all times. He is a member of the Olymp.

      In Monaco 1984 Bellof had a lighter car becouse it had less fuel in it and his car was N.A and not Turbo like Senna's Toleman...in this track with rain is better heaving a controllable car in front of a powerful one

    Stefan Bellof would have been Ayrton Senna's nightmare. In fact he was in Monaco '84.

    • @RicardoSilva-qp4bb
      @RicardoSilva-qp4bb Před 3 lety +9

      That is just wishful thinking.
      Bellof was a very good driver but not on Senna's level in Fórmula 1 (no one was to be fair). Senna was second at Monaco 84 (and was going to win that race had it not been stoped) and also got the fastest lap on that race. Senna was in 9th place at the end of the 84 championship with a mid pack level car. Tyrell was running an ilegal car that year. So all odds were of the table for them. Still, Senna was having way better results in the 84 season (in his first year in F1) with Toleman than Bellof had in 85 for Tyrell.
      In 85 until Bellof's death Senna had 5 retirements and Bellof only one. Still the overall points results up to that point largely favoured Senna. The Lotus car was better (performance wise) but so was the driver.
      Bellof was a very good driver but Senna was on a diferent level in fórmula 1 back then.

    They say that if Bellof haven´t died in Spa, Michael Schumachers career woudn´t have existed. One say we might would have seen great battles between Bellof and Ayrton Senna. Bellof´s contract to Formula 1 was allready signed on his death.

      when people talk about Senna catching Prost in the rain at Monaco in '84 they always forget to mention that Bellof was catching both of them in a bucket of shit of a car, passing people on the sidewalks. Had he not died in Spa, not only Schumacher wouldn't have happened, neither would have Senna.

      @@zxr-cade2026 I have watched an interview about Stefan Bellof with Rainer Braun, a very close friend to him and a motorsport tv commentator who drove race cars as well. Very much officials from motorsport in Germany said that and Michael was the firtst one himself to say that and he saw him driving..... He was allready singed into formula one with one debut race in Monaco where he drove close to Senna and if the race would have continued we would never know. Only his death ended his ongoing success. Rainer for example helped him by inviting officials to several group c races keept saying: "Watch the race and take care about who is the only one not breaking for the chicane...." stuff like that. Stefan has had a 30 years lasting lap record for the Nordschleife. Of Course You are totally right about Schumacher he is the real drivers driver, him, Senna, Fangio and so on, but NEVER FORGET ABOUT BELLOF, because he had a huge talent and was a very big sports man who sadly died much too early and he earns our respect.

    Bernie Ecclestone was unhappy about the Group c cars challeinging his F1 cars for outright speed and summons the FIA to heavily restrict their power and performance in the following years, ultimately leading to their demise. Otherwise we would have world sportscars as the premier race event.

    • @RennfahrerCembalist

      Fucking exactly, always a certain Bernie Ecclestone compromising sports prototype racing to protect F1’s self proclaimed image of “The pinnacle of motorsport”’. If the minimum weight of le mans car were 500-600kg like f1, and have the same 13000rpm engines, and most importantly they were to race in the same sprint format as F1, sportscars would definitely have turned out on top.
