3 ESSENTIAL Terrarium Tips For Beginners!

- Tip 1 - overwatering:
Unfortunately overwatering a terrarium can be very easy & is definitely one of the most common mistakes beginners make. Make sure you only water until the substrate is damp & NOT wet!
Tip 2 - direct sunlight:
The quickest way to kill a terrarium is by placing it in direct sunlight, instead find a bright spot in indirect sunlight, or place under some LED lights.
Tip 3 - substrate:
The substrate of a terrarium is one of the most important things for it to be a long term success. Here’s the mix I’ve used to make thousands of successful terrariums:
Coco fibre 1 part
Sphagnum moss 2 parts
Orchid bark 1/4 part
Charcoal 1/4 part
Worm castings 1/4 part

Help! I made one and it looks awesome, some woodlice have died and it smells bad, what’s wrong with it? Has mould growing too, only been a few days
@@thurston383i know im late but did it have oxygen. If the plants died then there would be no oxygen or the woodlouse could have run out of food. Woodlouse are best for big terrarium rather than small terrarium

They are often sold in reptile/amphibian shops but you can also get them online:)
Orchids use candles for light measurements. I have a fluval 3.0 where can I find conversation candle to LED percentages chart?

Yup. Over watering is very easy. It's hard to keep track what plant needs what quantity of water.
And, what about the lighting for plants at night? Should I install LED lighting for plants during night time.

They need darkness at night. 8 to 12 hours of LED light during the day.
Is there a substitute for worm castings? Can I use normal garden soil instead?

Not sure if anyone will see this comment but I only have access to stuff I’m my backyard and maybe if needed a small item like a coconut any tips for dealing with a situation like this?
All of my materials I found in my backyard. I like to experiment with differ substrates and plants but I think the best part is learning from previous attempts. Have fun and try to remember what your first build looked like and improve a smidge each time!
how to remove excess humid/water ? should i just leave the lid open

Just leave the plant alone,water will mist up during mornings and goes away in afternoons unless there is too much.These flowers cycle this stuff so its al good.
How to keep mushrooms? I got a few from they forest but they got upset and my moss is doing just fine, what do i do??

What is the mixture of substrate?
Does rotten wood good for terrarium isopod ?
if i use dirt from my garden should i wash it
then use it or could i use potting
mix or do i have to use the stuff you used?
If I use garden dirt from outside I bake it at 350° for 1 hour to sterilize and kill anything and everything so you don't have random weeds growing. It's just as good as buying potting soil. Especially if you get garden dirt that's already been composted.

I messed up my first terrarium about a month back, I included wood, a terrible substrate, and included no water barrier.
It’s still alive, the moss is thriving and there is no mold growing inside of it, I swear, the moss in my back garden is immortal.
