Yes, I like the the original Gibson knobs. $20 for 4 chunks of plastic is too much. How about $1 each?

Hello Sir, I just came across your video for the exact same reason concerning replacement speed knobs for my Gibson Les Paul, but I couldn’t help but notice how steep the break angle was from your bridge to the tailpiece.
The reason I’m mentioning this is that it’s putting a LOT of pressure on your bridge and over time, could damage it. But there’s an easy fix for this (and of course you can choose to ignore me if you wish, lol) and it’s as simple as Top Wrapping the strings over the Tailpiece. It does absolutely nothing to the tuning and isn’t detrimental in any way whatsoever, but it raises the break angle 📐 of the strings dramatically and will make sure that you don’t flatten the centre of the bridge.
Anyway Sir, I truly hope this helps and God Bless.

The setup is fine. The break angle is fine, strings are over the bridge and stop bar is raised. Played LP guitars since 76, I know what you are talking about. Thanks for making the post, hopefully it helps someone.

I have swapped for chrome top hats. I like the look and they are speedier knobs. To me anyway. I still love the Ibanez speed knobs with the rubber around the edge, sooo nice.

Any difference in quality from other speeds knob brands? The speed knobs that came on my epiphone les paul are pretty rough around the edges, a couple look like they're kinda chipped.

Well that's a big one, edges are not smoothly rounded. Sometimes the numbers aren't painted clearly and the plastic is cheaper causing them to break more easily removing them and putting them on. About it.

But! but...if I happen to have PUSH/PULL pots (which I do) to switch tap/split coil pickups which is possible on humbucker guitars anyway, I definitely don't want the knobs to go all the way down to the surface. I want to be able to grip them a bit better from underneath, because the plastic is clear and shiny and doesn't come rugged at all.
And the name. Which beats me. They are larger diameter than original, and still they call them "speed knobs". For what on earth I cannot tell, because the smaller diameter, the faster the turn. Try Fender Jazz bass control knobs instead, the small tone control at the back. There's a true speed knob if there ever was one. Please explain why something with larger diameter should defy the law of physics in general. Do a video with the original knobs (not called speed knobs) and compare them to these unwieldy behemots that you can't get a grip on anyway, should you fingers sweat the slighest on stage...

Yeah have to say I never got the whole ‘speed knob’ name. Ibanez have the rubber grip around them and I’ve always loved those knobs.

It's amazing how many people just get the cheapest they can find and then wonder why it broke.
