    My main takeaway is that It kinda sucks that the main gimmick of MK8 that being the anti-gravity will likely not be featured at all in these new courses. Not to mention some of the charm being taken out of the courses such as the coconut mall escalators being replaced with generic ramps.

    @jazzyfuture Před 2 lety +39

    I don't think it's fair to say "We could have just gotten another brand new more exciting entry in the Mario Kart series" when it seems pretty clear to me that EPD 9 is working on something else than Mario Kart, and is porting stuff over to keep the +40 million MK8D owners somewhat happy. A new Mario Kart would eat into those evergreen sales and them keeping this going until the end of 2023 tells me they don't have Mario Kart in the near future, this feels like a side project for a smaller team to keep Mario Kart support alive but on the sidelines. The casual announcement and quick explanation of it before the trailer in the direct really shows that I feel.
    Maybe EPD 9 is currently taking a shot at other Nintendo racing IPs to not eat into Mario Kart like DKR, Excite or maybe, just maybe F-Zero. Or maybe they're spending 4 years developing Arms 2, who knows really.

That's why half of gaming companies nowadays don't give a damn about releasing quality stuff, gamers are becoming so apathic to anything they release.
      If you wanna play cool ports and custom tracks just go play Mario Kart Wii CTGP, they probably have ports of all tracks in Mario Kart history and it's free. I'd prefer 4 new retouched, remastered, remade, carefully rebuilt courses than 200 shitty ports, coming from Nintendo.

    Thing is, I suspect Nintendo recognized the ravenous demand for a new console Mariokart (which they likely won't be ready to provide until the next system)
    PLUS NSO Expansion Pass needing more value
    PLUS PLUS Their current evergreen high attatch rate titles not having touch base doled out content now that Smash Ultimate is done
    This DLC is a pretty economical move on Nintendo’s part. I don’t care enough about Mariokart to pay for this DLC (let alone their way overpriced online expansion) so it's no fleece of my nose.

If they built the new courses from the ground up (again) that would take even more time, plus, they still have 40 courses to make in two years. But the thing, no one is gonna pay attention to the detail while playing the game, so small details will get unnoticed. Also, they still have a month to touch up the first wave. I honestly think that the new courses are gonna be fun. I also like the simplistic design, but that may be because I play mkt every day...

  • @ego-lay_atman-bay
    @ego-lay_atman-bay Před 2 lety +9

    I just want to say this, about the claims that nintendo is being lazy, they're not. Let me elaborate.
    Programming and 3d modeling takes a very long time. Making a single course in mario kart 8 from the ground up, would take weeks to make. They'd have to recreate a course using references, making sure the dimensions are right, and drawing all the textures. That takes a very long time. On top of all that, they'd have to position all the in-game objects (boost panels, item boxes, ramps, etc) correctly, while making sure to keep the objects in the same spot as the originals. I do also think that to speed up the process, they do have a visual editor to position them, but that still would take a while. Combine all this, it would (I assume) take weeks, or even months to do). Nintendo isn't being lazy, they're speeding up development by not going into the complicated process to remake courses when they already did that for mario kart tour.
    Remember, they're adding 48 courses, I just talked about the process of making 1. Also, they're releasing all the courses in a 2 year span.

If theres something in particular that the fans want, they'll maybe sometimes meet us halfway, and several years later at that. It removes a lot of faith I have in their newer stuff that I would have been hyped over the moon for if it weren't for how Nintendo is now.
    Though I need to say that Im really bummed that were not getting the Tour characters or items (Diddys banana cannons come to mind). Diddy, Funky, Dixie, Pauline and King Bob Omb are literally better than 50% of the characters they included in MK8. Id pay a few bucks just to play as them instead of Baby Rosalina : ^ )

    The courses don't look that bad even, I think it's just the sharp contrast between the high detail of the base game and the simplicity of what we've seen of the expansion pack that's jarring. Ultimately though this is a game where you don't really spend very long looking at the scenery, and the majority of these tracks are tried and true classics that'll still play great. Definitely worth my $25 but that's about the most it's worth imo.

    I actually theorized that a bulk of the tracks featured are ported over from Tour. I was right. I'll still get this pass since I never really touched Tour since the first year the game was out, but still for those who committed to that game it must be a huge slap in the face.

      I don't see why tbh were getting sky gardens in tour (February 22) before it releases in Mario Kart 8 deluxe (March 18). In that time frame we could get shroom ridge and the other tracks. Most tour players I see are still excited.
