  • POMONA - Noosa Hinterland
South East Queensland has received an extraordinary amount of rain and subsequent flooding in the past week. The rain was caused by a slow-moving trough sitting over the South East Queensland coast. The Brisbane River peaked at 3.85 metres and Brisbane received 80% of its annual rainfall in three days!
North of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast region wasn't spared. One small town that received an extraordinary amount of rain was POMONA. We decided to drive up there this week, but before going, we did our research to make sure that the roads were safe and clear, the clean-up had been done and the town was open for business. ...and it was. The reason for our visit was not to look at the flood damage but to support those businesses who were open and need people to return (and spend $).
The township of Pomona sits at the foot of Mount Cooroora. It is a relaxed country town with some great walking tracks, picturesque parks and quaint shops and eateries. It's also only a 20-minute drive from Noosa!
Come with us as we walk around and show you one of our very favourite towns in the Noosa Hinterland and spend some $ locally.....
We invite you to come with us as we make regular trips and take you with us via our weekly videos 😊

Hi, we're Beth & Paul from Brisbane, Australia and we love to travel!
Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
Our timing wasn't great - with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global turmoil less than a month into our trip.
Until it is safe to travel internationally again, we turn our focus on travelling around Queensland and sharing everything our beautiful State has to offer!
Our videos are posted weekly 😊 (we aim for Thursdays).

Hey hey you two lovely people. It's great to come back and enjoy your lovely journeys around the hinterland and coastal areas. I'm so glad you all were safe from the floods. Unlucky me got stuck in Gympie and couldn't get out for a while but at least I was safe. Anyways lots of love and can't wait for the next destination.. cheers :)

Hi Ryan 🤗 it’s great to hear from you and learn that you were safe up in Gympie! They really had a lot of rain and flooding up there didn’t they? Thankfully we all have some sunshine now, giving everything a chance to dry out. We’re looking forward to heading up to Bargara to see the turtle hatchlings in a couple of weeks time and can’t wait 😊

Thanks @I am Faith 🤗 We had a nice time visiting Pomona, but sadly there are so many small towns (and big ones) that need help right now….some of the devastating flood scenes we are seeing on TV can make us all feel overwhelmed. But we often remind ourselves that if we all chip in and do a little something, things will return to normal soon and we may even become closer as a community as a result ❤️

Bless you for going to Pomona and supporting them. We were going to different little cafes and pubs here to support them through Covid, but it's so rampant now we're to scared to go anywhere. When you consider the whole of NZ is only twice the population of Brisbane, we're getting over 20k cases a day😢. Over a thousand in our area. We're a population of 300+K down here. I stay home all the time except for grocery shopping one a week ☺️. Please take care 💖 and thanks again for the lovely cruise ❤️. See you both next week. We are continuing to see scenes of devastating loss from the floods in Gympie, Brisbane and some areas of NSW (Lismore was particularly bad). We’re so sorry to hear that covid numbers are increasing in NZ. These floods brought back some awful memories for our family, although we were devastated at the time, as the years have gone on, we’ve realised that life can go on without all the stuff we had. It’s not nice losing photos and other sentimental things but we have taken new photos to add to our cherished memories ❤️ We arrived in Bargara today and are looking forward to spending a few days with our (adult) children ☀️

Hi Guys 😊 we're really sorry to hear about Donna's sister. This flood seems to have reached a larger area than the 2011 floods, even though it was not as high...the damage in Gympie, parts of the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Brisbane particularly has been extensive and very sad to see unfold. On a happier note, our car has been great...we've done around 26000 kms in around 9 months and paid less than $100 total in charging. Having plenty of solar panels at home has kept the cost down. However, a Hybrid is a good compromise and gives you a choice 😊 Have a great week!

Hi @Noeline999 🤗 We have travelled all over the Sunshine Coast in the past week….from Noosa to Caloundra. By comparison to Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast has fared quite well. We did experience heavy rainfall and flooding…some areas more than others. But most roads are open now and businesses are open too.. We were on a boat in Noosa this evening and it was beautiful…..but the water was brown from the debris and run off. We went for a walk along the boardwalk to Kings Beach last weekend and had a delicious breakfast. Again, the water was brown, but apart from that everything seemed normal. We live in the hinterland and can tell you that Maleny and Kenilworth are open as normal. We’ve had some beautiful weather up here today ☀️ However, the bad weather we had has moved South and Brisbane had significant flooding and from what we know, there is a massive cleanup underway. We hope this helps. If you’re looking for things to do on the Sunny Coast, you’ll probably find most things are open as normal ❤️
