      * - repeat the instructions following the single asterisk as directed
      ** - repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed or repeat from a given set of instructions
      ( ) or [ ] work instructions within the brackets as many times as directed

    When you are inserting the hook into a chain, are you going into the back loop only? If so, does this change the texture/pattern of the finished item, versus going through 'both' the front and the back loop of the chain? Thanks!

      Hi there! ☺️ I'm working into the back loop loop of the chains only. I've been doing this for years, as I just find it helps to create a neater edge. It doesn't change the outcome of a pattern/design though.

      I'm making a scarf with this stitch and using only the back loop - it makes a lovely ribbed pattern.
