In USA we never heard of guys in school Gym or biz men at their Club using the frat loop to hang their neckties when they changed clothes. See above post.
1: You don't even know what it's for. 2: No one believes it's a decoration. 5: No one believes it's a decoration. 7: No one believes it's a decoration.
#1 - "There are actually 3 documented reasons, and it's unkown which is correct." So what you're saying is that you don't know what they are for either? Oh boy I can't wait to watch the rest of this video.
MaiAolei That seriously made me laugh... like, for the students to do that, the loops had to have been there already... which means they were put on there for a different purpose. "List channels" these days...
you didn't even try to understand what he was saying? there are three different documented use cases people have had for it, but it is vague to say which one is correct. I would say the loop in the shirt is used by the manufacturers to do something with the shirt before it's finished.
Thanks captain obvious, but vague and unknown pretty much mean the same thing, its not known. If you're not sure if you're even right, then how can you be so sure you're not wrong either? The students using it to signal they're going steady is pretty much like saying hanging a sock on the door as a do not enter sign one of it's intended uses. That's pretty much the exact opposite, its code.
3:18 the small pocket is actually called a "ticket" pocket. Levi introduced it for gold miners back in the day as prospectors were given tickets, as receipt, for the gold they deposited at the assayers
When I was in grade school in the mid 60's, the loop on the back of the shirt was called a fairy loop. The loop isn't sewed, so it could be pulled out with a good tug. If you still had the loop on your shirt, that meant that no one had the guts to take it from you. ie you were a bad ass.
The loop on the back of this shirt was for suspenders to hold your pants up it would go through the loop then over your shoulders and then clip onto your trousers
The little loop in back of some shirts was originally called a locker loop and it indeed used to hang shirts in lockers . Contrary to the video, it causes far less wrinkling than hanging by the color on locker hooks.
When I was in school, everyone knew the first one is a locker loop. It's for hanging up your shirt. Some people would try to rip one off somebody else and tear their shirt. So I tried not to get shirts that had locker loops.
4:25 The purpose of the hole on the pen cap is, to let the air go through, so you can close the pen properly. Without the hole, the extra air inside the cap will push the pen against it, when you try to close it. Dumb.
Be cool if you actually would have done research and realized that yes, the loop on a shirt came from sailors, who used it to hang up their shirts while changing. Also, hangers are a pretty recent invention, not really used until the 20th century. The loops are, in fact, for hanging up shirts.
The primary purpose for the hole in a pen lid is to prevent air pressure forcing ink down the channel of the ink tube when the lid is placed on the pen. Without the hole, when the lid is put on, there would be no where for the air in the lid to go, so it would put pressure on the ball in the point of the pen and force the ink down the tube, creating an air lock and preventing ink flow the next time the pen is used. I can't imagine shirt manufacturers adding a loop to a shirt for the purpose of college students to indicate their relationship status. This is an adapted use.
Your point on the pen cap proves my point on the video being stolen. First mind warehouse got it wrong, and then facts verse got it wrong also in exactly the same way as mind warehouse lol.
+Almero yes it would save their lives. its used for when someone chokes and cant breathe. they either get that much air until help arrives (which is more than enough) or die. you take your chances
ka da The hole was not always there. When i was a child it used to be solid. I remember pens that would not always work directly after opening the cap. Only after shaking and scribbling a lot. But i still think the reason for the hole is to relieve pressure when placing the cap on, other wise the pen will not work every time you open it, and that would put the manufacturer in a bad light.

And for all these years I've been wearing my tie on the front...Here I always thought the loop was a pony tail tamer. Really gang... The loop is called a "locker loop" and it is for hanging. If you hang a dress shirts by the collar it will distort them. Hanging it at the back, where it is under pressure from the shoulders when worn, will quickly smooth out any hanging wrinkles. And the watch pocket was kept and was later referred to as a key pocket. It keeps a key separate from other crap in your pocket so it's easy to find. If you have a few keys together, the pocket keeps them from rattling arounnd in the main pocket.
Houston Nye 😂 I really would like to congratulate you on writing the word “embodiment” on your essay. You are now ten letters closer to the end of your essay.
Maybe now.... But original Levi advertisements prove its original purpose was for the pocket watch. Only pretentious modern douchebags would wear a waist coat with jeans.
Blue Jeans were originally designed by Levi Strauss as work pants for California gold miners, and the pocket was for a watch. These days people wear wristwatches , but that was the original purpose of the design.
I initially thought what kind of tyrant would make such a sweeping statement about dress. Then I googled images for "waistcoat and jeans" and saw that you were actually right.
The hole in the spaghetti spoon is actually not for a portion. Its just the most simply way to make water drain. Some spoons have several small holes, or slits for this purpose. And the holes are of different sizes with different spoons. The Loop on the back of a shirt is also really just to hang it up, the school story is complete and utter bullshit. Its used because in lockers you usually can't use clothes hangers, it was made popular during the 1960s. And its even called "Locker Hanger" Stop making shit up and believing stuff you saw on 9 gag.
Exactly. Not sure where he came up with this nonsense. I use that to hang my shirts in the locker at gym after work. It's better to hang it there than on inside of shirt collar because you actually get less wrinkles and it's less stress on fabric than if hung on inside of collar.
You don't end up with points in the shoulders, it's better to hang from the loop and I have yet for one to wrinkle because of the loop, they just aren't heavy enough to cause a crease.
I could be wrong, but I believe with the spaghetti theory, he means when it is still dry. The amount you can bunch up and push though the hole is a serving. That part wasn't mentioned though.
The hole in the spaghetti spoon and the loop on the back of a shirt are actually for making people wonder what these dope things are for, meaning the smartasses who devised them are somewhere jerking off and saying: "I GOT THEM ALL! HAHAHA".
“The design is quite simple: it’s made from therite and wrapped for its protection.” Most videos wouldn’t have the balls to mention something obscure like therite and then not actually explain what it is despite being an informative video. Kudos.
Ferrite bead*. If a device is susceptible to interference, without this your device will act erratically or itself will emit interference. Think radio antenna. It stops the cable acting as an antenna basically.
The small pocket on pants is amazing for little things like a key or a lighter, or even change that won't wiggle while walking. I hope they don't get rid of it
3:23 I use it to put my car keys. And if I have extra keys dangling from a key chain connected to the car keys I usually try to push them into the big pocket.
Interesting "things", a lot of them had unsatisfactory explanations though. The Cable Cylinder for example nullifies static electromagnetic noise? What would happen if it wasn't there? The Spaghetti spoon hole is to measure a serving? That doesn't even make sense. Of course it's to drain out the water. The Pencap hole is so that the whole cap is not absorbed by mucus? How does that work mechanically exactly? The bits of fabric that come with clothe can be washed first to see what they react to washing like? Does that make sense? Unless the color actually changed I don't think you could tell if the wash shrank or ruined your piece of fabric much.
I'm 100% sure that is exactly what it is not for. It does not take a genius to figure out a serving, It has been around for a long ass time. No one wants water in there spaghetti so it's only natural to put a few holes in the bottom of the spoon. Also no two brands of spoons have the same types of holes so its not consistent with servings. Some spoons have a lot of small holes, how does that help measure a serving? It doesn't.
I agree with you. What a lame lame made up reason for the hole. And worse... they didn't even explain the made up reason properly. If you went from this video, you would think they meant the hole was to measure cooked spaghetti. But it doesn't matter because it's bogus anyway.
You're supposed to stick the spaghetti through the hole before you boil them. When they're stiff and straight the bundle should just barely be able to fit through the whole, and when you boil that amount it is the average serving size. I don't know about the shirt loop though.
Actually, the rivets in jeans were initially a joke. Levi Strauss wanted something different and new for consumers and one of their designers, as a joke, added the rivets. They ended up liking the look of the design so they stuck ever since. At least that's what I heard a long time ago from a shoestring relative of Strauss who came to speak to my Cub Scout troop.
They didn't explain the hole in the spaghetti spoon very well. By "measure out one serving" they mean measure out *uncooked* spaghetti. The amount of uncooked spaghetti that fits in the hole is the equivalent of one cooked serving. It's much easier than using a separate spaghetti measuring tool, which works the same way. Need 10 servings? Measure out 10 times. You don't need a bigger hole. Now I crave spaghetti. 🍝
The loop on the back of a shirt is to put a certain colored tie through that goes w/that shirt. I've seen and used it many times. It was very popular when "skinny ties" were in style.
If you only have one hand free, you use your teeth to hold the cap and your free hand to pull on the pen. I use pens that 'click' so I won't need to do that.
Fits nicely, just doesn't the oil evaporate even faster by keeping it that close to the body? I got a gas operated blue-flamed zippo, thus I do no longer need to worry about that.
I was thinking the same thing about the little pocket. In fact a lot of people call it a coin pocket for that very reason. I'm weird and already knew it was originally designed to hold a pocket watch, so I have always called it a watch pocket.
#9 is wrong. The hole in the pen cap is to let air escape when it's being placed on the pen. Otherwise, the air pressure inside it would prevent the cap from going on all the way or push it off later. The hole is also on aerosol can caps.
@young... Seriously, think before you comment. It prevents choking by LETTING AIR THROUGH. There was a major campaign about this in the media when I was at school, previously they didn't have holes. Also at this time in history retailers plactic bags didn't have holes in them. Presumably you can't see how this would prevent suffocation either.
The most amazing thing about this video is they had to point out what a watch pocket and rivets were on jeans. If you don't know those 2 things, you don't have the ability to understand what they are.
The hole in the top of the pen is actually there to stop the ink leaking, if you were to put on a lid with no hole and totally seal off the pen then the pressure would build up leading to the pen exploding/leaking
That little pocket watch pocket is still useful. Some people stick folding money in there since it doesn't fall out as easy as it does if you just stick it in any other pocket of your jeans.
6,557,306 people watching this have a pocket watch pocket in their jeans, but about 6,557,223 don't actually have a pocket watch to put in it. We can help change that.
We're going to be doing a month long pocket watches only challenge at the office. Basically, the KTT team cannot wear a watch on their wrists for 30 days (except for filming and photographing of course. We will all only carry pocket watches during that time (month of October). You should join us!
This just in, water is wet, people always thought water was wet because it's water, it was recently revealed that water is wet because water is a liquid and liquids are generally wet
I was puzzled by it initially, too, because the video does not show how to use the hole. What is meant is that the hole is to measure out a portion of spaghetti BEFORE it is cooked. So you take a handfull of raw spaghetti sticks, pop one end into the spoon, and whatever falls through the hole is a "portion". Repeat until the desired number of portions is reached. Simple Spaghetti is notoriously difficult to judge and seeing how much raw spaghetti fits through a hole is the easiest way to establish a consistent portion size. Some spaghetti spoons just have slits for drainage nowadays because people have mostly forgotten about this little trick, but some spoons still retain the hole. Some spoons may have slightly differently sized holes but you will soon get to learn how to compensate for the size portions you want. The true advantages of using the hole in the spoon is that it is right there in the spoon you are going to use, is always the same size, does not require an extra gadget or utensil, and is very easy to use. Some people use the opening of a plastic bottle or something else to measure a serving, or they weigh it, but that is more difficult and requires and extra gadget of some sort.
Stefan Els ohhhhh i just buy my pasta by the pound and use half of it. that makes two meals for me, one immediately and one the next day. then again i never eat spaghetti, i prefer the various bites. bowties, shells, etc.
Levis began using rivets for the pockets when gold prospectors would put gold nuggets in their pockets while mining. The jeans would rip and precious gold would spill. Hence the rivets. The down side was when sitting by the campfire the rivets would get hot and burn the miners skin! The little pocket was added to hide smaller nuggets and "gold dust".
The people who did this video are stupid as shit. The hole in it is for the same reason as the hole in the airplane window. To regulate pressure in the pen so that it doesn't leak.
"The hole in it is for the same reason as the hole in the airplane window. To regulate pressure in the pen so it doesn't leak." wrong. For almost a century the tops didn't have a hole in them. It was child safety regulations. From BIC themselves ... "all our BIC caps comply with international safety standards that attempt to minimize the risk of children accidentally inhaling pen caps. "Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC Cristal, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards."
Martin O'Donnell Hey good job copy and pasting from Bic's website. I too can do that. But I will copy and paste the entire quote of theirs unlike you. "In addition to help prevent the pen from leaking, all our BIC® caps comply with international safety standards that attempt to minimize the risk of children accidentally inhaling pen caps. Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC® Cristal®, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards." Pay attention to the VERY FIRST part of their statement. The only part you happen to omit from your comment.

HOW is that supposed to help fasten a tie easier when it's on the back of the shirt?!?
That is the one thing that puzzled me...and yet he never explained it...
In USA we never heard of guys in school Gym or biz men at their Club using the frat loop to hang their neckties when they changed clothes. See above post.
How the hell is a loop on the BACK of a shirt going to help you to fasten a tie easier?
Obviously he doesn't wear ties, so he doesn't know how stupid he sounds when explaining nonsense :D lol
It is for Suspenders! They cross in the back and going through the loop keeps them neat and positioned.
You're right.
That actually makes a lot of sense
I thought it was for suspenders tbh

#1 - "There are actually 3 documented reasons, and it's unkown which is correct."
So what you're saying is that you don't know what they are for either? Oh boy I can't wait to watch the rest of this video.
and one of three "documented reasons" is some legend from a specific university
And that legend deals with how students of that university essentially used the thing for a purpose that was not intended.
MaiAolei That seriously made me laugh... like, for the students to do that, the loops had to have been there already... which means they were put on there for a different purpose. "List channels" these days...

how does the loop on the back of your shirt help you fasten your tie?? what the fuck?
Maybe it replaces the tie clip when you wear it backwards?
I was wondering the same thing. You can't make a statement like that without explaining how.
I thought he would say it's for suspenders at least,
But a tie?

The bits of fabric that come with clothe can be washed first to see what they react to washing like? Does that make sense? Unless the color actually changed I don't think you could tell if the wash shrank or ruined your piece of fabric much.
I always though it was so you could take the little piece with you to buy shirts/ties etc... and check they match the jacket...
The hole is to measure the sapghetti BEFOR you cook it. Try google spaghetti measure.
Martin Lyhagen
o that could be.
I use the little pocket for my Chapstick😂😂
My sister uses them for tampons
I use it for coins.
I use it for tiny folded naked pictures...
i use it for my key..
IDK, my Zippo fits in that little pocket perfectly.
Most people think that stick coming out of the steering wheel is just for decoration but it's to let people know you are turning somewhere!

Apparently it's to help tie a tie, whatever the fuck he meant by that, he didn't explain.

Holy shit so I've been over eating my pasta lol 3- 4 portions 😂
For some reason I thought this would be a lot more interesting

Yep.
Yeah I learned nothing. :(
All I learned is what I actually thought things were used for. I didn't know I thought extra holes in tennis shoes were used for decoration. I do now!
As of right now, 9,171,780 people thought this would be more interesting.
How is a hole in a spoon a measurement for 1 serving of spaghetti. That makes no sense.
The uncooked noodles, if allowed to fill the hole, comprise a compromise portion...
X Fade they're just not good at explaining things
What happens if the spoon won't allow them to fill it? Will a few sneak through anyway?
You gather the spaghetti into a grouping when it's dry, put it through the hole, and the amount that fits is a serving.
The uncooked ones
#1 best purpose I've found for the little pocket on jeans, your car's key-fob usually fits into mine perfectly.

How would that shirt loop help you fasten your tie easier?
Same way a hole in a spaghetti spoon will help you measure out a serving. This whole list is fuck of shit.
You're supposed to stick the spaghetti through the hole before you boil them. When they're stiff and straight the bundle should just barely be able to fit through the whole, and when you boil that amount it is the average serving size. I don't know about the shirt loop though.
the holes are always different sizes though, I have one with tiny hole and one from Ikea that is in a shape of a cross...so that's bullshit
잠꾸러기 Maybe that was the original purpose (as well as draining any water of course), but eventually stopped being used for it.
Danubian yeah that's possible
I always thought the small pocket was for holding coins
That's how I saw it. If anything, it's evolved from pocket watch, to small items.
I thought it was for cowboys to stick their thumbs in to look cool while chewing on a wheat stalk

Yep that there small pocket is for coins. End of story.
... but I've always heard it called a watch pocket.
Thought I was having a stroke when I read the title
Me too. Making spaghetti for dinner now. LOL
You use the hole to measure one serving when the spaghetti is dry.
In other words, before cooking.

The loop on the back of a shirt is to put a certain colored tie through that goes w/that shirt. I've seen and used it many times. It was very popular when "skinny ties" were in style.
“Fruit Loops”. That little loop, in the center back of men’s shirts, was something for fellow classmates to pull off shirts in the mid-60’s. Fun. 🤣👀

Same here. Too bad I don't wear jeans
Why wear jeans when one can wear yoga pants?
Because one is not female or homosexual
Why are people putting pen caps in their mouths?
Well some people have a bad habit of chewing on the caps as they concentrate on writing, also babies eat things
Kids you idiot
To supress the craving to smoke.
If you only have one hand free, you use your teeth to hold the cap and your free hand to pull on the pen. I use pens that 'click' so I won't need to do that.
Chewing on a cap would cause it to close the hole up..lol It's obviously for children.

I keep my headphones' jack in the little pocket, when I'm not using them, so it doesn't scratch my phone's screen.
that extra pocket on the jeans, is for my lighter.

MI no lo
Yes
@@coltranecoltrane3005 How the fuck does a hole in the pen cap prevent choking?
Correct
The small pocket on jeans are used to store a condom - fact XD

That little pocket on the jeans is used to stash your cocaine. Or erm.. So I've been told, anyway..

If you put Cocaine in there it would sweat out
The hole in the top of the pen is actually there to stop the ink leaking, if you were to put on a lid with no hole and totally seal off the pen then the pressure would build up leading to the pen exploding/leaking

can someone translate that spaghetti spoon nonsense into factwords? i can't even understand the claim, let alone the truth
Simple
Spaghetti is notoriously difficult to judge and seeing how much raw spaghetti fits through a hole is the easiest way to establish a consistent portion size.
Stefan Els
ohhhhh
i just buy my pasta by the pound and use half of it. that makes two meals for me, one immediately and one the next day. then again i never eat spaghetti, i prefer the various bites. bowties, shells, etc.

Ohhhhhhhhh holy crap! I was perplexed by the video's explanation, or lack of an explanation. I figured it was just more bullshit.

So I think the loop is:
You know in certain movies and stuff they have those swords on their back that slip out? Yeah, those are the holders.
"Most people think the human nose is just for decoration."
This made me laugh more than I'd like to admit.
... but this is not true. It used to serve a purpose. Back in the 1970s, people used to wear "glasses", and noses were grown to hold up those glasses.
lmfao
It for temporary bugar stowage till you can remove them when no one is looking. Without it they would just pop out and roll down your face.
However people quickly learned that the nose is also great for snorting cocaine.
some things like the snaps on the jeans for stability and the shoelaces should be obvious enough... but the pen cap hole doesn't seem logical at all
The people who did this video are stupid as shit. The hole in it is for the same reason as the hole in the airplane window. To regulate pressure in the pen so that it doesn't leak.
A True Wisconsinite
aah so I wasn't imagining things, I couldn't think of another purpose anyway^^
Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC® Cristal®, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards."
Pay attention to the VERY FIRST part of their statement. The only part you happen to omit from your comment.
