    That's a lot of faith in a scissor jack. Invest in some cheap jack stands if you're going to be getting under the van, especially if you might need to do it on something other than asphalt in the future. At the least what you can do is shove the removed tire under the frame so it provides something to take some of the weight if/when the scissor jack folds or shifts.

    I NEEDED THIS VIDEO!!!! Still working on my PROMASTER conversion but tires are on my mind. Thanks for showing in detail how you cut the wheelwells and re-shaped the plastic trim, I even have a grinder!! You will never how much info I got from your video. UPDATE: Turns out you can get size 225/75/16 Ko2s but the weight/load rating is less. Which wasn’t recommended for the 3500 ext. model. So, your decision should be based on weight. It depends on which model Promaster you have and if you plan on towing.

    • @MrSharkphoto
      @MrSharkphoto Před 5 lety +2

      They've always had the 225 but the 245s fill the big wheel well and also look better. I'm going 245s. Everyone talks about it but no one had posted a video yet, so thanks.

    Redoing my 1997 GMC 1500 Savana high top. Having the suspension upgraded, wont lift the van too much. Then I want to swap out the stock 15” rims and LT235/75R15 tires to a slightly larger set up, probably starting with a 16” rim. There is a lot that can be done wrong and I don’t want to create a whole new set of driving problems so the right advice is needed before I wished I never took on the change!!!
    Had this van for 12 years, after shopping the used van market over the last year, I’ve decided that my old friend is worthy some upgrades. Maybe in another 5 years the market will be more attractive. Old vans that are customized can rock, I may never get another van after the mods there is something about a 5.7 V8 with a performance dual exhaust!!!!

      Thanks Scott, we looked at class B’a too. Actually, we looked at everything from a teardrop to a 35” RV. We ended up building our own for a couple reasons. Firstly, it’s significantly cheaper and I had some basic handyman skill (but was terrified to say the least). Secondly, I didn’t see any class B layouts I liked. I didn’t get to see that many though. We pretty much dove right in and we are glad we did. It came out perfectly.

By chance did your TPMS indicator light on the dash remain on after installing the larger tires (Tire pressure ) Finally decided to replace my original tires with the same BFG AT 245/75/16 as you guys did. Having a bolt puncture in one tire did motivate me. :) How did you reset the TPMS?

    OHV is the company we bought the lift from and we had a dodge dealer install it. Then we took it to Cade at The Wheel Specialists in Tempe , Az so he could work his magic and get the biggest wheel tire combo to fit. We went with a load range E BFG KO 2 LT265/65/18 but trimming is needed in the wheel wells. It would be cool if someone made a fender flare kit then possibilities would be endless.

    What has your experience been like finding places to park in such a long vehicle? Looking at a Transit extended length, but it is almost 22 feet. The standard 148 is 19'7.5". That's a 2'4.4" difference which might be a big deal and more limiting when trying to find adequate parking.

    • @LindseyandDannyVanlife
      @LindseyandDannyVanlife  Před 5 lety +2

      I (Lindsey... the less skilled at parking) have not found it too difficult to find parking. We always allot additional time for parking because sometimes it just takes a minute to find that glory spot, but we have never been deterred away because we just didn't fit. The biggest trick for us (being the extended.. so our extra length is in the back behinds the back tires) is to back up into spots. Our rear generally hangs over into a grass patch or a walking path, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do.
      Mind you this is for both urban and nature. We are city bound 3 days out of the week.

    Those tires do look mean. Since it's your home it's crazy not to get the most kick ass tires. With front wheel drive and those tires I bet you can get most anywhere a 4 wheel drive truck can go with regular street tires. Is there anywhere in the van that you can store more tools? I don't think I'd leave without an angle grinder,drill and sawzall (cordless)
    The best part is you left it all stock outside. It wouldn't get a second look by cops and bad guys.
