- This was posted a day later than normal. Sorry to my regular viewers but my lifestyle does sometimes make it difficult for me to stick to a rigid schedule. Anyway, it is here now, for you all to watch and, hopefully, enjoy. This model required a 3D printed part as well as homemade decals to make it look good again. I am very happy with the overall end result. As I have said before, there is no such thing as a perfect restoration, but I am very proud of this one. This model will now be placed in amongst my other restored models and will be one that I will often look at and say "That came close!". Really a nice job on the newspaper delivery van. Colors and decals are spot on.
The older models seem the best. They were solid and so representative of the vehicle on the road at the time. This one has been finished off in a lovely manner. A real charmer.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s I spent my early teens at a local farm where the farmer had one of those old Bedford news vans as a farm truck. It was knackered then and rotten through and through but still started first time and as a kid then I remember sitting in the passenger seat watching the front wheel go round through the hole in the floor. That van never went on the road but was a godsend moving stuff around the farm. We as kids repainted it battleship grey using emulsion paint and any old brushes we could find. Not a good job and the farmer wasn't best pleased, especially after it rained. It looked a right mess. Oh they were happy days. Great job Marty and thanks for the memory it invoked.
Another Great job Marty! This van had killer sliding doors both sides. They'd leave them open to jump in and out, plus throw the bundles of newspapers out. Stopping at the lights the doors would slam shut from over use. Watch your fingers.

Fabulous restoration of a Matchbox vehicle that I had as boy in the 1960s and remember with absolute clarity. So wonderful to see one looking 'as new' again - thank you for the memory.

Superb work. A very attractive model with its bright colours. Some of the early Matchbox were rather muted looking, though period correct. Probably the most number of decals on a Matchbox, at the time. They turned out well. A tantalising glimpse of the display cabinet, with your finished models.

It was in a bit of a state but not as bad as some I have seen. Without the 3D printer I would have been screwed!

Again, I'm amazed at what and how you do what you do! Its always a treat to watch one of your videos as they are consistently informative and entertaining. Your production values are ever expanding, and most impressive - kudos to your filming and editing staff.
My design background will not allow me to leave without mentioning that I am impressed with the manner in which (I assume) Julie has integrated the display of your collection into the decor. So many times a collection either takes over a room or looks sloppy and much too prominent. Your collection is well displayed and gives the impression of having been part of the scheme from the start. Kudos to the decorator - and to those who manage to make a home around the interests of each other.

I drove a news truck in the early '70's. Similar signage in this hemisphere. The angle of the roof sign is so more folks can read it at the same time. It's called the angle of approach. The geometry is the same used by submarines to fire a torpedo. Great Job. Narragansett Bay.
Did it get 'lively' if it was windy?
I wonder if the orientation of the sign was dependent upon the locale being left-hand or right-hand drive. Seems like it would make a difference.

This is one of my favourite models. It's the same van as the number 25 Dunlop van and the milk carrier. Beautiful design

Probably the most worthy selection for a Lesney restoration. I have a mint original example, which I see as a favorite, and high point in all the Regular Wheels 1955-68 that I personally own.
It looks great Marty! The color you mixed looks perfect to me. I can't tell the difference between it and the original.I loved the news report. I knew Kevin had to be the cause. Thanks for sharing this neat tutorial. I like all of the steps you show in the process of restoring a mode too.
Nice job as always Marty , those diagonal signs on van roofs were popular in the 60's my brother had a Ford Anglia van with one on it went like a snail .

There is something special about the Mr. Hobby jars. I find the colored caps appealing and I especially like the proportions of the cap and jar.

Great job Marty, the 3D printer is a definite piece of machinery needed when doing restoration. Hopefully I will get one in the near future.
