@@79tazman Makes zero financial sense to restore cars that won't be able to be driven in a few years unless as a sport/hobby anyway. These cars were made to last only about 5 years, and the '57s rusted after ONE - I know - we had one. 👀

So what Fonzie bike did Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage buy at an auction a couple of years ago for $200,000? The Rawlings bike was authenticated by Henry Winkler. Something doesn't add up...
At time 2316 , he says that there were 2 bikes. As for HW authenticating any of the bikes, it is unlikely that he would have had nut and bolt / serial number knowledge of any of them and can't be 100% certain.

Its amazing how he is able to obtain get additional classic cars for free. I'm 52 yrs old and I am at in my life that I finally have a large garage, equipment, time, a little money, and experience in restoring cars. I have been looking at barns and old garages for cars and everyone I speak to wants $10K for a car that that has been in the mud for 30 years and needs a lot of work. I am fine with working on something most car restorers walk away from, but that's crazy to find them for free.
But 10k really isn't much money nowadays. I'm a truck driver, and got a 20k raise this year.
@@tlr-nut7275 It is not the cost but the value. They are not worth it PLUS the cost to restore. Also you get a raise more than most Americans make. We call that cognitive dissonance.
Its clear he got the vast majority of these vehicles before the demand kicked in for Classics.
@@tlr-nut7275 10K is nothing to sneeze at. I get your point but many people would consider 10 grand a lot of money. If I'm not mistaken most Americans don't even have 2 grand in the bank. What a mess.
I hate to be a pedant, but those were hubcaps from an 80's Ford Fairmont on that Lancer. Also, the "style elements" in the roof are there primarily to provide stiffness to an otherwise flimsy flat panel of sheet metal. While they may be styled to look a certain way, that panel would cave in like a piece of paper without the creases. Like you Tom, the Lancer was the car I would take from his collection, no matter that it was probably the least valuable! I love every Barn Finds video I watch!

Time for this old guy to sell them on to someone who will actually love them and restore them.
As always, a number of comments whining about how these barn cars just sit for decades. Here's the deal... Mick, and his ilk are saviors who prevent the classics from being turned into modern Korean appliances. Yes, it may be years before most of these cars are made road worthy, if ever. The fact is, they still exist. I am grateful there are caretakers of old vehicles scattered around the globe who have the foresight to hang on to them for following generations to admire and enjoy.
Saving them?? He's parking half of these in dusty, dirty, dank, dark old barns.
If ol' Mick hadn't swooped 'em up, someone else - who would've had them on the road and restored by now - would've!
Another interesting guy with some really awesome cars. Great find Tom. Damm shame all these vehicles will probably continue to rot for many more years to come. It's really amazing just how many classics are still locked away in places unknown to most of the world...

Great collection, I watched the Will It Run episode with the Hudson so I'm ecstatic to see its getting the love it needed. I feel like the next generation of Mick, I just need more space to save more treasures. Great video guys looking forward to more.

Dad was a Chrysler guy; I grew up driving both the 1957 Chrysler 300C and a 1960 300F. Mom drove the 300 C which was Bermuda pink and a convertible, that was her daily driver. I would take that out cruising all the time it was great on gas mileage it had a progressive linkage which was only running off of two barrels of the first four-barrel carburetor. The 392 is a great engine, the car was pretty heavy and in my opinion wasn't a great drag racer you kick in both those dual quads in at around 70 mph and you were up to 130 mph within in seconds. Same was for Pops 413, he would run 80 to 95 in the desert all day long, scared me to death. Thank for the flash back ... good luck with the restoration.
I remember when Davin got that Fonzi Triumph up and running. That's a cool motorcycle. Richard Rawlings thinks he has the one true Fonzi bike. He must have the parts bike. I'd be happy with either one.
Not sure the Fonz ever actually rode either - pretty common for production companies to have multiple examples to make sure shooting isn't delayed just because something happened to the car/bike. Famous story about Henry Winkler being put on a an HD Superglide for the first bike shot in the series with Fonzie, and Henry dumped the clutch and chucked the bike under a production support truck. That was the last time Henry ever sat on anything with a running engine. The Triumphs came into the picture just because they were so much lighter than the HD. The more ya know.

I remember reading about the 300-series cars in a car magazine in a doctor's office waiting room when I was a kid. Those cross-ram 413s are a rare sight indeed! Holy moley . . . 6-figure restoration cost on that convertible, but probably can get it back when fully restored - some ultra-wealthy globalist will snap that thing up at a Mecum auction.

The Chrysler 300 models are stunning, specially the brutes from 57 to 60. This Hudson is GORGEOUS as well. Actually I am a GM guy with a love for forward look Mopars and orphan cars like Hudson, Nash, Studebaker Kaisers, Packards for example.
I'm a Ford guy but love the same cars you mentioned, plus Oldsmobiles (64) and Pontiacs (55-56).
@12:00 Close, but those are not the original hubcaps. They are very similiar, but those are 78-83 Ford Fairmont / Mercury Zephy wheel covers. Very close looking to the original Lancer wheel covers though, but are slighty different. LOVE your videos.

The character Fonzie was loved by so many Americans young and old to me I’m old and I have ridden motorcycles for 65 years I’ve never come across anybody in real life that was anything like the Fonz😊
I think instead of saying he’ll never get any of these cars done we should motivate him to get started. He’s obviously not scared of work just needs a kind motivational push in the right direction and a solid plan. Good luck man I hope you get all of these cars done and prove the haters wrong OR have a huge auction so other people can enjoy these cars. This collection would bring joy in a lot of family’s lives.

YEah Boomers do this, Most of Gen X cannot afford or know how to restore cars and no other generation wants them.
@@SophiaAphrodite Gen X and younger generations can learn...the cost/time is the issue. a Garage with the appropriate tools and time to develop the skills...its beyond me now, at almost 50.
@@SophiaAphroditegen x has plenty of people that not only know how to restore, but do it daily- you may want to jump the accusation to a generation down the line- Gen x was born from 1965 to late 70’s… we had muscle cars all over our high school parking lots! And we wrenched upon them daily!
@@torekristoffersen176 We used to swap automatics to manuals, change transmissions from three to four speeds, add 4x4 to 2wd trucks. Swap out six cylinders for V8 engines. We would lower cars, add dual exhaust, and things like that just with a jack, jack stands and some basic tools.

When i was 8 my neighbors had some visitors. They were driving a Crown Imperial just like that and i thought it was the most beautiful thing i had ever seen, it even had a .45 rpm record player in it! Fast forward 60+ years and it is still as beautiful! Way out of my wheel house to ever aspire owning one but MAN DID THEY GET THAT ONE 100% RIGHT! 👍👍 thanks for sharing and saving that one sir!

Awesome collection but any of those stored on dirt floors have numbered days until they become rust buckets, unless this is AZ.
I don't know one state from the other but I restored a 57 Ranchero was in a Reno Nevada open sided dirt floor carport for 29 years, before that was driver in Sacramento. Obviously rusted from ground up to the roof and could tell which side of the carport was open. My rule is if it'll keep up with todays traffic keep the original engine and as my 31 Hudson 8 does so would that Hudson. Cars with non brand engines no value to me. When a guy has so many cars he can't keep air in the tires let them go to someone that will take care of it.
Love the series, I do understand collectors, I don’t however understand hoarders with grand plans that would take 3 lifetimes to get all of these projects done, all while they rot away when someone else could put in the effort to get them back on the road and enjoyed. Most of these guys have kids and grandkids who have zero interest, which is part of the problem as well.

Over many years my father drove over 50 great cars and trucks into the pasture and barns. I and two of my brothers always tried to buy some but all got crushed, not salvaged, in the late 80s after he died including an XK 120 only had bad brakes. And that's how we know cars get destroyed in unheated rodent infested concrete floored barns.
This guy couldn't even put a board over the carb in that Chrysler? Shame on Tom for not doing that for him. I figure a lot or all of that rust and interior destruction happened after he got them. I understand always wanting more but I only keep the 5 I can take care of. @@MikeBaloga

I've watched every episode of Barn Find Hunter and this is my favourite. Those Chryslers are grail cars for me and as an Australian, to see so many in such solid condition, when you almost never see them at all down under, is just amazing. @@Smarterthanyou-mthrfkr nope, just dropped a fresh 400 in my 81 Bronco for 2,200. I suppose if you have to pay people to do things for you the price could get out of hand. If that is the case you probably shouldn't be trying to "collect" older vehicles. It is for people who do everything themselves or can afford to pay. If you aren't one of these people you have no business hoarding cars.

An ultimate “waiting for” collection😁
I like this fella. It's nice to see how he seems to enjoy his collection of vehicles and really knows a lot about each vehicle. However, the way he talks about the vehicles is also depressing, because I suspect that maybe not even one of them will be finished in the rest of his life. Then it would be better to give a few to people who can really put effort into the vehicles. You can only work on one project with focus. I still wish him the best.
So, does Richard Rawlings have the 2nd Fonz bike?
I’ve always enjoyed this show , but more and more as I watch it i think I appreciate Tom’s love and knowledge of automotive history the most.

Lots of cars, lots of ambition, and lots of money needed just to get the cars running again; not to mention actually roadworthy. Neat collection, but im afraid that some of the other comments are correct that he will never get to many of these. Hopefully he will allow the care to be passed to someone else who will enjoy and complete the process.
We are all just caretakers and it is up to us to get the hobby to the next generation.
Its crazy how time affects all of us. When i was little i couldnt fathom how someone could own a car and not see it for years, let alone have a collection across multiple locations and not open the doors to them for 6+ years! As im getting older and life goes on I can understand how you fully intend to get working on something and it has to be put on the backburner. Next thing you know its been a few years. I love seeing these older guys collections, it always makes me smile!

Those will never be on the road again.
The guy moved and set up entire houses, barns, and buildings from all over the region. Spending a week or two to get running and in some shape to then sell to a committed restorer is what he said most of them were for. He may live another 30 years, who knows.
I would love to restore just one of these cars but sadly maybe a couple of these might get worked on

Small world. I met Mick a few weeks before the filming of this viideo, turns out we share the same storage facility. He had just rented the stalls and they were empty at the time. I had no idea who he was or the extent of his passion and collection. Very plesant, down to earth guy. We got to talking and he was almost gitty about his new addition(s) to his collection and being on Hagerty's show! He told me a story about that Lightning he drives, his granddaughter kissed the hood years ago and he hasn't wased it since, lol, you can still see the outline of her lips (probably wearing lipstick or chapstick at the time). Goes to show what an ol softie he is. Party on Mick!

I have to agree with many of the comments here that this entire collection is rusting away to nothing and these vehicles deserve a better fate than being hoarded in such awful condition. Hopefully many of the classic ones are not too far gone. I've never understood the mindset of this type of collector. I've seen other Hagerty videos showing people with dozens of cars stored in the open elements with small trees growing up through the engine bay and the owner says proudly..."This is my 1962 blah blah blah..." They own what is quickly becoming scrap metal, not classic cars. I don't get it.

I have to agree with you because it's happening every day. If you like cars and you have the money you can buy and not do anything with them. So it goes.
When he started talking about restoring the first car, with also restoring a matching boat to rekindle something from his childhood, I felt sad knowing its unlikely any of that is going to get done and these will be auctioned off after his passing.
