- Washington, My Home is the state song of Washington, in the United States. Written by Helen Davis and arranged by Stuart Churchill, it was adopted on March 19, 1959.
There is a popular myth in Washington state that the state song is actually Louie, Louie by the Fabulous Wailers. There was indeed a failed effort to change the state song to "Louie, Louie" in the 1980s, spearheaded by KING-TV comedy-show Almost Live! host Ross Shafer. However, then-governor Booth Gardner proclaimed one day in that timeframe to be the state's official "Louie, Louie Day". - Hudba

I’ve left Washington for half a year, and I always get tearful when I listen to this tune. I miss Caphill, downtown, UW district, the lakes, the sound, and other beautiful places in Washington, where I find and feel peace.

I've lived in Washington my whole life and this is my first time hearing this song. IMO we should play the State anthems at smaller events like at school assembly's, and play the national anthem at big ones like Sporting Events and Military events, etc.

A beautiful tribute to my home state, the place on earth I love most.
Sang this in Elementary School in the mid sixties. My kids never sang it in a school program when they were in Elementary but then again it was adopted in 1959 so it was less then a decade old when we sang it in school programs. Great song.

Life long Washingtonian and I never knew we had this as our state song. I wouldn’t mind a condensed version that’d be more priming version as a state anthem.
Or better, have Roll On Columbia as our anthem. They once tried to make that our anthem but the state legislature refused for some reason

Helen Davis was my mom's friend, when we lived in Raymond. I remember her telling me about Helen and Washington My Home.
Helen Davis was my mother's friend, too! Mom sang this song for the State Legislature for the adoption. I don't remember singing it so slowly. This version is also missing the intro.

The first stanza starts with "This is my country; God gave it to me." The state government is dominated by liberals who hate God and religion and want to eliminate all trace of it, so omitting the first part is to be expected.

Washington isn't my native state, and I've lived only round a third of my life here, but I love it. Sure, there are things I don't like about Washington, and some of my worst memories take place here, but it's still my home, and I plan on staying here for the rest of my life.

I was born and raised in the Skagit Valley, but moved soon after my 30th and have been a Colorado resident since 1998. I love both states (Washington for the green and rain, and Colorado for the sunshine and the Rocky Mountains); just wish Washington State had a flag as cool as Colorado's!
