250 - 330 hp is the SWEET SPOT for smaller sedans and sport cars. especially like this
Coming from a 450+bhp M140i, and now with an M2 comp, this ST that I drove last week genuinely surprised me with how quick and fun it was to drive. I'd say it's faster than my old Mk7 R in every situation other than launch. What a brilliant car this is!
I think if you have to chose between FWD cars, always this one! But those RWD slides are just too good to chose this ST over them imo.
It's not faster than a golf mk7 r.
@@latlak oh I wouldn't choose the ST over the M2 or 140, no way. The ST is probably a better car to drive down a back road than my 140 was. It certainly handles better. The power and the engine and unpredictable rwd is what I loved about my 140. The M2 is far far better, but nowhere near as quick in a straight line. I'll eventually remap it though.
@@pokest225 I'd say in gear is better in the ST. It feels much torquier than my R too. I should say that my R was a manual btw. Handling and steering wise, the ST is definitely better, and much more fun.
@@bananahammock3664 feeling torquier is one thing. Being faster is another different thing. The rs for example feels torquier than a golf r, but in straight line is no faster in reality.

It sounds unlike any other 4 pots out there. Throaty and offbeat like its predecessor's five cylinder which is very very nice indeed.

It's been a really close for me between 2017/18 ST2 or Octavia VRS 245. I will go and check an Octavia tomorrow. That might be the one. Both are great car. Can't go wrong either of them.

It’s a crime this isn’t sold in the USA.
No offense but when I see Videos of US Roads, they only contain Trucks/Pickups, SUVs, Minivans or Sedans. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume the profit margin would be to small for a production in the US. It also comes into my mind that the ST is manual and as far as I know the US generally tends to drive automatic.

Car enthusiasts who actually enjoy driving choose manual transmission, and this car is the perfect fun daily driver that's also very practical. It will sell very well in our market. We have a very diverse country, with plenty of drivers who don't like SUVs or trucks
Exactly. That's why we all need to contact Ford Customer Service and tell them they need to bring the Focus back to America. If we all tell them, they'll listen to their customers!

This is too good to be true :) the sound reminds me of the 2009 but it felt like it was projected/enhanced by the sound system
It is synthetic sound inside the car.
If that's the best way that we can get it to sound good with all the emissions regulations manufacturers have to obey these days, then I'm all in for it.

I love this engine. I have it in my 2019 Ranger. Funny how everyone loves this engine in the Focus but I get my chops busted for having that engine in a mid size truck. 🤷♂️ I love it and the V8 F-150s can't keep up with me 😂

Where's the traffic? If this had been here in the UK we would have seen a few hundred cars and the maximum speed probably about 20mph. Suspension also would be wrecked by the holes in the roads.
Maybe its because you have steering wheel wrong side and you also drive wrong side of road?

I own a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium and its transmission is jarring to say the least. Drove the Ford ST and I think that company really did a fine job with the ST. Can't figure out why Ford would put out cars with known mechanical issues, like the Ford F-150, with its well documented death rattling.
Super car... on the handle transmission, cool focus...

The CO2 regulations killed the RS, Ford only make this ST version.
@@orimilan there's no such official statement about the RS. There's no statement at all actually. The only thing we have are these 2 rumors circulating the web:
1. there's going to be a Focus RS with a 400HP mild hybrid system
2. they're moving the RS to another model, maybe the Fiesta maybe the Mondeo, nobody knows
Either way, there's probably going to be an RS.
I tried a bmw m 140i and then i tried the ford and i think the ford focus st was more fun.

This is the old school Saab 9-5 formula: 2.3L Turbo inline 4, manual, front wheel drive with a burbly sound.
Ford is saving money from us putting these exhausts 😂😂
wish I could have the options this one can have. Been able to drive it and damn I wish mine had adaptive suspension and an easy to press clutch pedal like this one. Comfort is certainly something that was massively upgraded compared to mine. It's supposed to be better on the track, but I can say it's much more suitable for daily driving too. Only downside, due to the larger engine, it's quite a lot more expensive for taxes, at least up here. While it's already about €6k more for this one compared to the previous one.
It's not showing the head-up display. It looks cheap, but it's actually quite handy and a good cheap alternative for the ones projecting it on the windscreen.
Steering wheel feels nice and the button layout is better. My biggest complaint is the sync 3 system. I hope Ford is finally going to do a big upgrade to it, cause it's not modern at all and annoying to use. GPS works horrible in Belgium, quite often given wrong info etc.

Nope, this is the same 2.3 4-cyl as in the Focus RS. One of the best sounding modern 4-cyls for sure.
I'm still sad they didn't continue with the old 5cyl but hey.

Will it suffer the same engine problems as the mk3 rs,, this at about 400bhp would be ok as a front driver so long as you pull the TC fuse
Turbo swap, or you won't see 400. It's a detuned version of the 2.3.
400hp is just silly on a fwd car.
We're the blocks cracking at the back where the wall was a bit thin? And yea 400 in a front driver would be very silly but this is exactly why I would enjoy it, I grew up with uncontrollable wheel spin and understeer so to me it would just be fun

Some of the sound is audio.. Piped into the cabin. Most car manufacturers do it now. Even a new Ford F150 has got that feature.

How is the torque steer ? I remember the 2013 was very difficult to maximize trajectory on low speed to high speed transitions...
Much better because it has a limited slip differential now (only with the manual 6speed).

@@cyberpope2137 I'm pretty sure that's just wheel slip. Torque steer is when the steering wheel turns to one side by itself.
S that’s exactly what’s happening in the 182hp mk4 focus when you put your foot down on the accelerator, I’d be surprised if it didn’t happen here since it’s 100hp more powerful, but definitely there is some wheel slip added in there
@@cyberpope2137 it depends on how the front axle is built I believe, I don't exactly remember which but there are extra bits that prevent torque steer. The 2020 Type-R has some of those bits because it had some torque steer.
No idea about the Focus ST though.

Da ist der Holländer wohl leicht überfordert mit dem schalten, fährt er doch sonst Autos mit Rentnerschaltung, also Automatik. Und der Sound dieser Kiste kommt aus einem Soundcomposer, dem könnten man sogar beibringen wie ein V8 zu klingen.

308 GTi, is just a beast!
Ford has stronger engine/more potential. Known for they're great handling and everyday performance. In the right form it also looks more aggresive than the peugeot. Oh and the interior quality, so so good. But i think it's more expensive..
Right now I'd go for the ST, but if you're planning to buy it next year maybe a new model of 308 pops up.
The reason for choosing the ST is because the 308 is missing a few new-gen options since it's older (like the HUD). It's also missing heated windscreen and steering wheel, but I think it has memory seats + massage seats and the Focus doesn't. Not sure about the last 2 though.
I'm also unsure whether it gets a differential and selectable drive modes.
Get Ford, even their normal models are super fun to drive :)
