  • this is our 25lbs little giant trip hammer. this hammer was built I Minnesota , in 1916 and is considered an old style. it came to us from the original blacksmith shop in one of our local towns. other than a new spring, and a couple of miscellaneous small parts, it is completely original. works wonderfully!

I do regret selling mine. It was a 1921 I think

A brake would have helped a lot. I think you ended up with a bigger hammer didn’t you? The 25 lb hammers have certain limits! One thing to anticipate it and another to experience it! As you learned, having a bigger hammer to compliment the 25 is a big improvement.

Parabéns pelo trabalho e sua apresentação, também gostei de conhecer este equipamento. Desde o Brasil.

Nice score! Best thing since three willing strikers.
I know the Little Giants were meant for forging plowshares, so the original dies had one fullering die and one flat one. You have much trouble with it curling up on you?

Does your hammer have the drawing dies, or flat(ish) dies?
Also it looks like you have the jaws set for a good sized gap. How big& why?

russell smith in the video I had slightly rounded dies, now I use flat exclusively. For general work, dies are set one inch apart, and when I do larger work or punching, I set them very high,

where did you find flat dies?
my LG has aggressive drawing dies.

can you tell me is it much work to make my own dies?

    • @EthanHarty

alan molstad I have never made my own dies. It is very hard and you need training with a milking machine
