@@rcisneros310 : that was because she was requiered to lip, there were going to be tactic flying jets over the stadium, can you imagine the level of noise for an open mic? She sang it in one take, though. They asked her to record it twice just in case but what we heard was a one take recording. She sang it fully live weeks later for the troos in her Welcome Home Heroes Concert.

@@rcisneros310 Whitney, when she did the national anthem, which was the greatest national anthem that we ever heard, what we heard over the air was prerecorded. The reason it was prerecorded was, that was a moment that no one wanted any mistakes. They didn't want any feedback, they didn't want any technical difficulties ... and it was great. There are so many logistics to overcome in a live performance in a venue like that. For one, the background noise of the crowd. This is actually standard practice for events like this. The producers years ago started asking to hear the anthem tracks a week before airtime, just so they would have one less potential variable. Look it up.
@@rcisneros310 she was singing and the band was playing music, but her mike wasn't live. it was a prerecorded performance she made days earlier. so yes, she was singing but we were not hearing her live because the mike wasn't live.
What makes this even more dramatic IMO is if you watch Whitney, it seems like she wasn't even trying very hard. Hair relaxed, wearing casual clothes and Looks loose. Not Like she's getting ready to sing to 100+ million people live. Definitely a legend.
The reason it seems that way is it was pre-recorded and she was lip syncing. This is very well known to people and has been for 30 years. This version was sold as a charity single during the first Gulf War.

@@MsJoose59 all professional singers make it look that way, but there’s definitely a lot going on mechanically. A lot of training is needed to get to that place. It’s a shame such a genetically gifted singer like her turned into such a horrible human being. She wouldn’t talk to flight attendants, hotel staff, waiters, etc, because they were “the help” and they were below her. Then she became a drug fiend. A sad waste dead before 50.

Whitney's rendition made the top 20 bbh100 in 91 and re-entered the charts at number 6 when it was re-released after the 9/11 attacks. She's the only artist to have done that. And both times she donated the profits. Just amazing!

So basically their take on the situation was that he didn't cause her problems but rather acted as something of an enabler since he was also indulging himself and not in a position to stop her.

What an Amazing voice. She let all the attention be on the Anthem, and her voice, being in a track suit and head band, and to think, she does this so effortlessly, Smiling and looking in different directions as she brings tears to MANY people's eyes. RIP.
the track suit was a weather-related choice - she had brought a sleeveless gown to wear - but it was really COLD in Tampa that day in January - she was wearing a winter coat, hat and gloves at rehearsal that morning - she told her assistant that she would freeze in the gown - her assistant had packed the track suit and reminded her about it - it worked PERFECTLY - just like Whitney. RIP Queen
I am not an American but Whitney's rendition of the anthem made me not only respect my own anthem but also made me wish I was an American or wish She had done the anthem of my country. Any American would want to live, fight and die for their country after hearing her sing the anthem. She was a global treasure.

I am an American and in my opinion, Whitney Houston's rendition of the u.s. anthem was terrible and it would make me think I wasted time listening to her sing the u.s. national anthem. Now the Dixie chicks rendition of the u.s. national anthem might be better, at least in my opinion.

It's Dec 2022 and Whitney's version still gives me chills. Her voice was spectacular and the arrangement and her phasing were equally perfect.
2024 and I just watched this. I still remember her singing it live and it gave me chills then and it gave me chills now.
Here in 2024, and I remember watching it live when I was 9 years old... Whitney set the bar for how it should be done.
I was in the kitchen getting ready for a Super Bowl party when Whitney began to sing the Anthem. I dropped what I was doing and rushed to watch her perform that rendition. I was so inspired by her and the way she could effortlessly belt out a song. It will go down in history as the way it should be sung!! Thank you, Whitney. RIP

While I totally agree with Whitney Houston being #1, I think Lady Gagas rendition should've been #2 & Beyonce should've been moved down a few notches. Her voice was so clear, so crisp, it literally gave me goosebumps watching in real-time & in this video. But Whitney's rendition always brings me ro tears. Also maybe because my dad was in the gulf for the Gulf War during that time, it makes it a little more special & hits a little closer to home in a way.

In my opinion Houston was #1 but when Jennifer Hudson sung her version I was just floored and then when I heard Gaga's version I was blown away again. all 3 of them are all at the same level in my opinion and no one else on that list could touch them. Why they’re still hiring people to turn in mediocre or struggling performances to, like, triple AAA MLB farm team baseball games and not just playing Whitney’s performance, I’ll never know...

I will never forget seeing Whitney sing that song the first time. We were at a bar watching the game and she came on, gave that performance and the whole place was silent listening in awe. Broke out into cheers afterwards. Great moment in Super Bowl history...what a time!

I'm so happy that Kelly Clarkson's made it on. The choir singing with her is a choir I was once in (by that time, I was an alumnus of that choir but was, and still am, in an adult choir which allowed me to sing in the half time show in that same Super Bowl).

There is no way you clicked on this video and didn't imagine Whitney was the #1 performance. What a beautiful voice. I loved many of these , but hers hands down will forever be our most memorable rendition of the national anthem.
For anyone, I mean ANYONE, to land a rendition on the Star Spangled Banner on the Hot 100 is just crazy. Whitney was a rare gem. I remember when she first debuted in 1985. She tied with Micheal Jackson for having the most number one songs on a single album. That’s how rare of a gem she was. She is missed.

Whtiney’s vocals are undoubtedly the most powerful and untouchable, her pipes are second to none. Lady Gaga’s was the most commanding, entrancing, and left me captivated. Dixie Chicks was the most emotional and tear jerking.

2004 was a rough time for many Americans from young to old. Dixie chicks did well, and even released a great song “not ready to make nice” shortly after. Luther, and Faith were amazing, but Whitney’s voice is so chilling, and haunting, she deserved number 1.

I haven't seen this yet. I'll watch it for sure, but making my prediction before I see it. My guess is Whitney Houston will be #1. A lil tidbit for that- a week or 2 before, the NHL played their All Star game in Chicago. Chicago Stadium was known for an epic Star Spangled Banner. The crowd at Chicago Stadium set the tone for the Super Bowl. I mean that in terms of how the crowd responded. Whitney is a great singer, and was going to be great no matter what.
If the NHL All Star Game National Anthem didn't make this list, it's well worth looking it up and listening to it. Very emotional and riveting.

I can't believe Meat Loaf isn't mentioned here for his performance of the Anthem at the 1994 Major League Baseball All Star Game. He delivered a powerful, straightforward rendition with all of the emotion and none of the fancy vocal gymnastics.
Meatloaf’s rendition is my all-time favorite. Sorry, no one has come close to it. Seems like there are only Super Bowl performances here.

I know this video is older but Chris Stapleton deserves a spot on the list perhaps just behind Whitney Houston. His rendition will go down in history as one of the greatest ever!
Never above Whitney! Whitney's rendition had passion and a voice that's a total gift from God. Chris' was melancholic and depressing. It did not lift me up, give me goosebumps or made me cry. Whitney's did all that, and more!
Boys II Men did the anthem at I think an NBA all star game back in the 90s. I always thought it was really good.
