Digging for clams in Oregon. How and where to catch giant clams during low tide

- I went clamming again on the Oregon coast, and I caught some of the biggest clams ever. This time, I used a garden rake to dig for clams. The best time to go clamming is during a low tide (especially a negative tide where the mud flats will expose the clams for easy digging). The cockles we found were about 2-3 inches below surface underwater, many were right on the surface, and you can see them easily.
Clamming season is open year round in Oregon. - Sport
Honestly his energy and enthusiasm after finding one big clam after another was a huge highlight to the video.
Agreed!

Excellent job...I really appreciate all the information you provide...as a recently retired Montanan I have been looking forward to visiting the Oregon coast more often than I have been able to in the past and with the information I've been gleaning from your channel I am looking forward to some good times...Thanks again for the effort you put into your videos...
Nice haul. This reminds me of clamming/crabbing in Pismo on family summer vacation. It could be opening up for clamming again in 2019 after being closed for over 20 years. Yippee!
Holy crab. Looks like a good workout and let's go clamming!
I love seafoods and i love watching all your videos.
I grew up digging on the beach for razorclams with a shovel. Never waded or used a take. Thanks for showing a different way.
I used to live in Coos Bay, this reminds me of the smell of the water. I’m in Alaska now. Salmon & 200 lb Halibut.
Reminds me of the shoreline where my company dumped all of our heavy metal waste. Brings back memories of great profits.
GOOGLE TAQIYYA lmao!!!
Great video. Thanks for posting
Here on the east coast we have both types of the clams your catching. We use stainless steel rakes with butter knife blades welded on they glide through the sand so much easier. Primarily we catch what your calling butter clams. Another great video my friend!!
Wow!!those clams..lucky you..here it is very expensive and you can buy only small clams.😊
Very, very Nice, mmmm, I love all sea foods, Thanks For the Video, I would like to see some Salmon Fishing, Thanks again PK.
my favourite seafood is CLAMS ! but in my country clam are very small.
Eh, samela. My country oso. I went to collect some cockles today from the sea... The cockles probably from family Arcidae... Any expert here? Can ur explain what types of cockles that normaly found in South china sea...???
Nurain Robilto i'm not sure

PK your videos are awesome. You single handedly inspired me to quit my job and move to Newport, Oregon from Yakima WA. Omg that city was killin my spirit. I just want to say thank you for uploading your videos for us to learn from. I tried crab hawking at Siletz Bay. Cheers PK. 🫡
The clamming looks like so much fun! And the cooked clam looks delicious in all it’s buttery goodness!
Awesome brother, thank you so much for sharing, So cool to see
cockles are the best tasting clams with tender meat . . they're getting harder to find them here in Washington state. we still have lots of butter clams here tho. that empty snail is called moon snail.
East Coast they;re called Cherry Stone Clams..the smaller the better and more tender...they grilled them served with a freshly squeeze lemon and soy sauce
Never had cockles that were more tender than razor clams.Cockles are good though
@@Alex-fk9tm Cherry stone clams absolutely different from cockles clams two different species and they have different name its called hard clams we call them Cherry stone because name of the town where aquatic farms are located on a Eastern shore of Virginia this guy digs absolutely different clams
hi from red oak tx i love your video and you dont waste the meat your special keep videoing for us

I find them sometimes washed up on the beach during the winter storms, about half of them still alive. Just got 20 nice ones. Crescent City.

Aaah... So ready to go back to the coast! My husband, my 2 younger boys and I went to Netarts about a month ago and got most of our limits. Then we headed down to Tillamook and caught some crabs. We had a nice feast when we got home😊
I see a large pot of chowder or soup in your near future.
Perhaps some nice fritters or stir fry.

Same question.
Secret....cannot tell you!
Thanks for great vid...really appreciate you showing the cleaning procedure and your receipe for fried clams. Cheers:)
Please show us how you cook them up!!! 👍👍
He did..
Did U watch it, until finished?
@@wayanyogasegara6342 Guess not.........thanks
I go with nothing but a mesh onion bag. The funest part is getting a limit in 1/4 the time of the guy in waders with a bucket, rake, shovel, clam gun, fishing net (dump truck, backhoe, and dynamite)! People get three or four and wonder how you did so well.
That snail you caught is a moon snail, and their primary food is the cockles that you are chasing. Although they are tough, guess what they taste like? They lay their eggs in something that looks like a rubber tire inner tube guard.
These are unregulated where I live.
I don’t know whether you do this while clamming, but you should bring old clam shells and then toss them back into the water for seeding. I lived near a river like this. However, no one in the area would practice this shell restoration. By the time I was in college the entire area contained very few clams like when I was a child-hardly any. To bring back the clams, the neighbors had to toss out bricks and stones.
Great vids, btw.
Diego Fianza so to repopulate new clams all you need to do is return the empty shells to its location? Interesting
Also to clean them is put them in FRESH water for a few hours to overnight, which causes the clam to basically throw up there by they clean themselves.
Good tip, thanks.
My place we need to go thru thick mud to get these size cockles. These guys are just raking in clean water so amazing
Great catch, bit please get a net/basket to keep them in and drag with to to keep alive and fresh for the longest time possible.
Nice your vlogg bro! Watching from the philippines
Very nice Clamming Video
It's on my bucket list
Finding clams is fun
Never cleaned the clams that way. Just steamed them ,adding salt butter ,garlic and white wine and ate everything.
Right haha i guess if it this big then maybe cleaning it out aint a bad idea haha that could be alot of sand to eat
such a satisfied video. i would like to join you there to catch some clams
Excellent tutorial PK...
You make it look so easy!
I used to catch them when I was a little girl but they were small size. It has a sweet taste ever !
what's part of Oregon?
very satisfying video, thanks!
Awesome vid PK!!!
I used to eat that raw or boiled that’s yummy! I love Oregon been there few times.
Wow!!! Where in Oregon?
Good hunting buddy think you should do a catch, clean, cook and eat episode making like a chowder.
Waah kerang Dara nya besar banget. Di jogja makan kerang dara ukuran kecil dan medium super. Sudah enak. Apalagi kalau segede gaban begitu. Mantabb.
Good video. Makes me envious.
Great content love watching your videos
Where did you go for clamming in Oregon Coast? Thanks
This video was seriously fun to watch, I enjoyed it so much! I imagine they tasted delicious. Thank you so much, keep up the great work!
Thank you
Hehe
Another great video PK!!’
That looks so yummy thank you for the video
We just got back from crabbing and clamming in Winchester Bay and Charleston (by Coos Bay).
Love your videos
You should dig for some empire clams ( they are the ones with the really long neck ) they are in chaerlston oregon.
Those are cockels
You find them nearer to the surface. Clams are deeper.
Nice job PK! Those were some wall hanger cockles! 👍
I have never seen so big cockle before. Its size is huge and I want to name these clams as elephant cockle.
Those are bloody clams. Good for sashimi.
Amazing! Keep up the good work.
I WISH I COULD. THAT IS MY KIND OF VACATION 👍😊✌️
It’s so easy You don’t need a boat. If you look for two big nail size holes about half inch apart I’m sure you can google it Just make sure you check the tide tables and there is tons of lodging with kitchenettes. My 3 year olds use to get their limit
On the East Coast we just throw the clams together to be steamed or boiled, wait until the shells open and eat the whole clam with butter. It seem the West Coast clams need more cleaning and preparation. Does this hold true?
Awesome video. You’re my go to for information.
I heading south into Mexico for some surf fishing over the holidays. I may rent a local and his Panga to do some short distance offshore fishing.
Any advice regarding a PFD?
I’m torn between several of the kayak PFD fishing vests. Thanks!
Hi PK, I was at Seaside a few weeks back for Razor Clamming. I'm thinking of going to Tillamook bay to do some Razor and other clamming, are you aware of any locations that are fairly fruitful? I have a 2 year old Im bringing along so some place that is fairly easy mobile. I'm looking at the ODFW page and its saying some places are accessible via boat in the bay. Thoughts, concerns or tips would be greatly appreciated.
