- In this video I am going over compressed air filtration systems, moisture separators, particle filtration, oil separators and desiccant air drying. I will also be showing how to dry out your used, moist desiccant. All of these filters are from Harbor Freight tool.
I hope this video answers all of your compressed air filtration needs.
I do lots of plasma cutting and spray painting and it is extremely important to have clean, dry air.

Great video - explaining the why an item is needed, then excellent hands on demonstration how to install, how to use, and after use maintenance. I had no idea prior to this video of why I need to have these on my system. Thanks!
Man, I can't thank you enough for this excellent and informative video. I'm getting my upright air compressor set up for painting a utility trailer and I live down on the MS gulf coast. You've really given me a good starting point on cleaning up my air.
I am now using a refrigerant air dryer in combination with this and that is even way better !!! but I am glad you found this helpful
Thanks for this video. I'm getting close to start painting a restoration project and i need to add a dryer to my set up.
Man, thank you for the video. I am glad that I found your channel. I am killing consumables. thank you
I am now using a refrigerant air dryer as well and that's made it even better!! thanks
A trick thought to me by a plumber was tape first then a little liquid sealant. I have some high pressure systems and you might have to take apart a lot of fittings to get to one leaking. Since I started doing his technique I’ve never had a leak.
Good video . . . I just got into plasma cutting and learned a lot.....thanks!
Very informative . Thanks!!!
i didnt know that i can reused the bubbles ! nice thanks
Dude that was a great video, i got all the stuff and am just about to hook it up im glad i stumbled upon this video with a lot of great info and not a lot of BS! keep it up you got a sub
thanks I am so glad you found it helpful!!! best of luck to you!!!
Great video thanks for making it.
Thanks man for your video really helped me.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you for this!
Big help! Thanks man!
Thank you for the video.
WHAHOOOOO Man, you really love what you do, very helpfull axplanation.
thanks!!
Nice video and good tips
Very helpful.. Thank you
Thank you sir!
That’s awesome cheers dude 🔥🤘😎👍🔥
thanks
Great vid!
I just used mine today for the first time. I use to have just the usual regulator with the water separator in one unit. Today I put in a larger auto emptying water separator, then a new regulator/separator and then the dual oil and desiccant filter same as you. After spraying four stripped and sand blasted skid steer rims I see the beads are changing colour. It doesn’t take long for them to start changing. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half. Definitely way less vapour at the hose end.
I’m looking into making one of those zig zag type copper tube wall mounted air dryers. Apparently they work really well. Always something to build! 😁
All the best,
Cheers from Australia 🍻
I have found even putting a 50 foot or 100 foot hose in a bucket of cold water before it goes through the water separator will greatly help
@@CreativityUnleashed
That’s a great idea!!! Thanks for the tip. Even perhaps ice in the bucket depending on the ambient temps. The way I understand it is the water separator will remove condensed water and the desiccant will remove the water vapour. So if you are removing heat, you condense more water effectively removing more moisture before it gets to the final desiccant as vapour.
I have liked and subscribed 👍
That really is a great tip! I really appreciate it! I see experiments in my future 😁
Cheers 👍🍻
@@nigelw598 Yes ice works well I now have a refrigerant air dryer and that has been amazing I am working on a video about that
@@CreativityUnleashed
Cool! I can see this is going to get expensive. 🤦♂️
I’ll be here watching 😁👍🍻
Helpful!!!!!!
Great!
thanks
great
Best
I like your video. And how you reused the beads. But I do have one question if you can help. At the very end of the hose have you measured how much water that is still coming out. That would be kind of interesting. I'm planning on doing the same thing here soon within a year. My home is in South carolina. But I'm working in Florida. For about another year and then I'm done. So I'm buying everything I need to set up.
I need to get something to Measure the moisture with
I am now mainly using the refrigerant air dryer that's a lot les work and does a much better job
WE SHOUD USE AIR FILTER FOR DRY AIR COMPERSER ALSO ?
Thanks for sharing. That’s cool but a little too much hassle to me. Are there less hassle options?
Refrigerant air dryers for industrial applications but I don't know of any other air filters that are convenient and small and economical
What is the blue Can and how do you maintain it? Thanks for the tips.
those basically absorb the water and give u a dry air
Any idea if sputtering with a plasma cutter would be caused by moisture in the air? I was told this might be the issue or the gap inside of the cutter.
Well I can't say for sure what is happening with your machine. but I have definitely have had problems with sputtering plasma arc because of moster in the air one of the ways to know is how long your consumables are lasting and are they turning black or burnt looking really fast can be a sign of unclean moist air
@@CreativityUnleashed Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I also am stupid, hadn’t drained my compressor tank, had lots of water. I just tried it again with lower psi and it worked better. I may try what you did as well.
Yep, u have to flush the tank every week.. It will oxidize soon and you will have problems
The moisture and debris in the unfiltered air cause the consumables in the cutter to go bad quicker, so the answer is yes to both I bet.
So I should definitely have the one filter that collects water AND the desiccant filter? I live in Florida.
If you are trying to use it for more than an hour at a time you may want to just make on on the CZcams channel Hannah's bug she goes into detail of making one that can do a lot higher volumes of air.
I finally got my refrigerant Air dryer working but haven't had the time to get a video out on it yet but that also works amazingly well just depends your application and needs

Can the regulator/filter be used as the main regulator?
I often use it as a main regulator for a air compressor that doesn't have a regulator and I've never had any issues !!
What about the filter in the middle how did you clean that?
I haven't needed to so I am not sure.
How often do you feel like you end up changing or drying the desiccant
there are a lot of variables but for example plasma cutting or spray painting on a hot day with high humidity as little as an hour of consistent airflow you may need to replace the desiccant and dry it out.
if you're using a high volume of air consistently you probably would want a refrigerant air dryer.
I have a video on refrigerant air drying.
@@CreativityUnleashed hello I use this exclusively almost for paint protection film installs, airing up my keg maybe once a day or so.
Typically it’s 30 percent humidity and about 70-80 in my shop.
So basically probably typically less than a minute per day or so in a climate controlled environment
Any idea where to get replacement dessicant?
I think I seen it on Amazon when I checked.
Thanks, where did you buy all of the stuff?
what happens if you use oilless air compressor?
Great question I would assume it wouldn't make much difference and I'm quite sure it wouldn't hurt anything having an oil separator
Where's the link for this product, how much did it cost?
You can get this at harbor freight
Where from I purchase the seperator
If you have a local Harbor Freight you can go to the store or purchase online.

Those desiccant dryers don't do shiet unless you're using some $100/oz stuff. It takes days for that stuff to absorb moisture The higher pressure speed things up a bit, but the higher temperatures slow it right down to a stop. It's basically just a filter that some water gets stuck in. It's not absorbing it from the air. Its either just straight water that it soaked up or moisture from the atmosphere. That stuff works in days not seconds. Also you can make a way better one for half the price with 20 feet of pipe and a few gallon jugs of dessicant. 20 feet of tubing and 10lbs of dessicant now that might actually work in seconds.
You're definitely right this one is only good for a very small amount of air I now have a refrigerant air dryer and that works way way better
but in my opinion it still is better using it then not using it makes a big difference
but I think making a high-volume desiccant dryer could be a good option as well !
I don't understand why if the moisture filter is trapping the water first, what's making the blue balls turn pink. Is the moisture filter a scam type of product?
The first filter works but does not separate all of the water the desiccant filters are better at catching the last bit of moisture remaining but if you were to just use desiccant it would get saturated very rapidly and stop helping
Hi Money,
The water separator removes the water liquid. The desiccant absorbs the water vapour.
👍🍻
Hey Darren, loved the video. Any chance I can get your email? We offer an alternative to Dessicant Beads to remove more moisture and would love to send you some information.
I noticed your water separator was after the regulator, From watching many videos I thought all that was to come prior to the regulator, or does it not matter
I don't think it matters to much
If I use this, I will need to bake blue balls every 10 minutes.
That's amazingly put depending on your airflow you might get 30 minutes or an hour that's why I recommend a compressed refrigerant air dryer which I have made a video about.
Those harbor freight filters are trash they dont do much I've used them
They are very cheaply made and sell them for a lot of money.
I have found almost the same things from some of the Chinese sites for almost nothing
Put some bass in yo voice 👦
