  • @mindysmith5825
    @mindysmith5825 Před 5 lety +8

    My first Stephen King book was Carrie, when I was 11 years old (now 36). The second was IT, which scared the crap out of me. The third was Needful Things, then Dolores Claiborne when King started to change his writing style a bit.
    In high school I read Salem's Lot for the first time, but I had already seen the movie years before that. It's hard to say which I like best, because they all have something special. But I will say that IT scares me the most, lol. Carrie is probably the one that I'm most fond of because I felt bad for her and I understood her situation.
    Rose Madder was great too...wish they made a movie!

    Night Shift and Skeleton Crew are great collections to pick up if you're in a classic King mood. Nightmares & Dreamscapes is rather hit-and-miss, even for a short story collection, but it includes some of my favorite King short stories: "Suffer the Little Children", "Popsy", "The Moving Finger", "Sneakers". Everything's Eventual holds a certain place in my heart because it was the first "adult" book I tried reading (I was in the 4th grade and hot off the heels of "My Teacher is an Alien" by Bruce Coville). "1408" might be one of King's most suspenseful stories. I HIGHLY recommend the audio book, performed by the King himself. Spooky stuff.
    Wow, I apologize for the Stephen King-length comment. I could talk about this dude for hours. His books literally helped me through middle-school.

    Cujo is ok it’s not the best books in my opinion. I agree with you Carrie is not the best in my opinion. I love the shining it’s one of my favorite Stephen King books. I am disappointed that the book and movie were different though

    My first Stephen King book was Cujo. It was in 1988 when I was 15. scared the crap out of me. I don't really like his work past the late nineties, it just isnt as good. Maybe it was his car accident that ruined his talent. But There are so many books of his that I can re-read that it doesnt really matter. Old books can be like visiting old friends.

      You should give his later work a go if you haven't. 11/22/63, The Outsider and The Institute are fantastic books of his from the last ten years.

      @@JL-sw7mh I have tried his later books. They are garbage. I haven't read anything he's done in the last ten years, so I may give that a try. The last good thing he's written that I liked (of the top of my head) was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. But books like Duma Key and Cell were complete trash. Under The Dome was the last straw for me. I was thinking of trying 11/22/63 though. It's hard to quit on King, because I know he has the talent to write amazing books. It just seemed like he ran out of gas for good stories in the late nineties.

      @@jeffblack2458 right around the time he stopped the drugs lol. Nah I'm with you on Cell and Under the Dome, but definitely give 11/22/63 a go. Hulu also did an 8 part adaptation with James Franco based on that book and it was great. Deviated from the book somewhat, but still very enjoyable.

    The Shining actually had two adaptations. The 1980 movie directed by Stanley Kubrick was a good film in it's own right but it wasn't a very loyal adaptation. The miniseries produced by Mr. Stephen King himself was much more loyal to the book and, in my opinion, creepier. They also used the real hotel that inspired him to write the book. However, ratings wise it flopped. So, it really just depends on your personal taste. If you are picky about movies sticking to source material like me, I'd recommend the 1995 miniseries. If you choose to watch it, be warned it's about five hours long though. :)

    So glad you love the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy I would recommend IT and as a starter King book Full Dark No Stars or The Green Mile (which is one of his less creepy novels)

    My top three favorite King novels are Carrie, The Shining and Misery. I also love The Stand, It, The Dead Zone, Doctor Sleep, Dolores Claiborne and Gerald's Game (movie adaptation coming to Netflix later this year). Skeleton Crew is a good book too. It's a collection of creepy short stories. It features The Mist, which was adapted into a great movie.

    It’s my favorite Stephen King book. I highly recommend it. I love Pet Sematary. I like the full dark, no stars which they have is the short stories. I have read Salem’s lot also and I thought it was really good. I highly recommend IT. It was super good. If you like Salem’s lot you’ll definitely like IT. I also read The Bag of Bones and I thought it was ok. My least favorite was Cujo though and Carrie. I didn’t like the girl with Tom Gordon though. I am planning on reading sleeping beauties, the dark tower series, the outsider and Christine as well. Thank you for showing this video. Any more videos of books you would like to show us?

    I grew up on Stephen King. Still my favorite. I'd recommend "The Wind Through the Keyhole". You don't need to read the whole Dark Tower series to get it, and it stands alone..the real story is all it's own, it's a great read, and one of the best of his later works.

    I think it's a good thing you don't want to watch The Shining, I'm with King on this one, most of the people who love the movie haven't read the book, I do know people who enjoyed both, personally, I didn't enjoy the film, not because it was different than the book, you actually see that a lot, it just doesn't stay faithful in the key parts.
    Nice vid, keep on reading King.

    Hey, so I was wondering... Since you like King, have you read anything by Lovecraft? I've read the whole Cthulhu Mythos and I think it's one of the greatest fantasy/horror (although I wouldn't define it as actual horror, more as a mix between a fantasy and a thriller) I've ever read. I just found your channel and really like your content, keep it going!
