  • In this video we tried to find roti keramat or kayu keramat in Kuala Terengganu.
roti keramat or kayu keramat is a traditional kuih from Terengganu and only found here.
It's like a doughnut but much better. We couldn't find it in Kuala Terengganu because it's common to have for breakfast and we were already late for that so we ended up going back a place where we had roti keramat for the 1st time last time we visted Terengganu state, the place is in Seberang Marang just 30km from Kuala Terengganu.

I agree.Roti keramat is much better than char kuay.
And yes it is perfect with teh tarik.
Fun fact: Roti Keramat is sometimes called Kayu Keramat in Terengganu.Kayu is Wood,Keramat is Holy.
So sometimes instead of calling it Kayu Keramat we call it Hollywood lol
Edit : I live halfway between KT and Marang. So if you are in the area I hope we bump into each other so I can say Hi.

Yes, you can only find roti keramat in Terengganu. It's different from cakoi. Cakoi is quite tasteless and needs to be eaten with some sauce like peanut sauce.
As for roti keramat you just eat it by itself, the taste is a bit sweet and crunchy outside soft inside. It's one of my favorite childhood snacks. I love roti keramat that was made by my mom.
Now as I am not living in Terengganu, I will have to make it by myself when I feels like craving it. My children also love it.... 😊

    Terengganu Roti Trivia
Apart from Roti Keramat, we also have Roti Paung, our local sweet bun.
Also Roti Keras, literally "Hardened Bread"..bread that turned into biscuit..best eaten with coffee, dip it into the coffee until "al dente" yummy!
You can also visit our local bakery selling different types of bread, called Kedai Roti Abdullah..located opposite the KT Specialist Hospital near the beach. It's popular (among locals) for serving fresh local breads and bakeries.
