I'm chilean, been twice in NZ, and I have experience buying at the NZ supermarket. The prices are similar to what we have here. Some things are cheaper and others more expensive. Definitely not the most expensive in the world. Also, consider that the minimum wage here in Chile is around 500 USD, in NZ is around 2500 USD...so yeah...you're in a much better situation than us.

I was in europe for a couple of years. I cooked indian fish cutlets and fried chicken for my italian friends, dried mutton varuval for a gathering of europeans, but only the Portugese dude could eat it as it was too spicy, and the dude finish a whole tub. But ayam masak merah was what i cooked very often when i was overseas. Its simple to cooked and so tasty. I loved my time over there. Always took advantage of the local ingrediants as well. Beautiful country and lovely people.
