What is botnet and how does it spread?

Malware or malicious computer code has been around in some form or other for over 40 years, but the use of malware to take control of a group of computers that are then organized into something called a botnet is more a twenty-first century phenomenon. Botnets have been responsible for some of the most costly security incidents experienced during the last 10 years, so a lot of effort goes into defeating botnet malware and, when possible, shutting botnets down.

So if botnets are infected computers all flooding a network or specific IP with packets at one given time, ESET can't protect us from those attacks as ALL computers in the world would need ESET to cut off the power source of these attacks. Anyone else came to the same conclusion?

If your computer is infected with a RAT, and you're part of a botnet, the actual symptoms are:
-PC occasionally freezes
-Intetnet occasionally slows to a crawl
-You burn trough bandwidth
-You may get random phone Billings, but it's unlikely.
If your account/s have been stolen, it's possible that this is also because of a botnet, but it's more likely to be a keylogger.
How hackers make money off botnets:
A. Once infected, offer a paid DDoS service (like a payed assassin, except kills websites)
B. Find out all the victims passwords and sell their accounts
C. Log everything they do, then sell those logs
D. Use the botnet to spread, or offer people to spread their virus onto your net in exchange for money
E. Sell ownership of the bots to other people once you don't need them.
