For that first example, I could see the acoustic bass complementing an 808 section pretty well all on the same track. For example, the acoustic bass you demonstrated on some nice flowy verses, and then building into the hook with a more simplified 808 line and a bit more energy from the supporting percussion and hats.

using a combination of both in separate section of your song could make the overall beat interesting. Love the dynamics of the acoustic bass and the added harmony the synth bass offers on the low end, but when I want a section of the track to be felt in the chest I go with an 808. Great vid!

Great insight. But sometimes, when you're dialing in a certain sound that appeals to potential artists that will buy your beats, the 808 is essential in many cases. A lot of artists won't touch the beat if it doesn't rattle the speakers.....or headphones for that matter. But, I get what you're saying. Synth basslines are what I prefer to use whenever I do boombap beats.

I really feel like 808 isn't being given the respect it deserves. The 808 has become it's own instrument that you have to tune and perfect just like any other instru. Would be interesting to see if 808 goes away though I think it's just going to grow stronger as prods tweak and dice deeper into the science that is 808. Bigups tho Nav, working basslines is a much needed lesson now that 808 has pushed it aside

As a old school producer we always use 808's just in different ways one example is the way a New York sample based producer would use an 808, as a layer, a bit muffled on top of a 909, vs a down South producer i.e. Atlanta or Miami area where the 808 is the kick drum then it became the baseline itself lol! Depends on what 808 sound you are using. Route 505 for example is a great 808 for slide and higher notes in more agressive beats. But sometimes a synth bass really adds another sauce.

Great video as usual but I do have to challenge one technical issue - Although like a pre-made 808 sample a toilet plunger is a good tool, a much better approach is to drop a pan or jug of water from head height down the toilet. Does the job better and you look way smarter than the average producer with a blocked toilet. In this analogy I guess the jug of water is the Moog Synth bass - an age old solution that's still cool.

Can you make an automation clip with the notes inside of Vocodex?
I'm trying to play a melody and I want the notes on the mini piano roll located inside Vocodex to record with my beat. (Similar to the mini piano roll used to change root notes)
I tried to record it in a new channel, and also with the channel I have Vododex routed through, but the sound stops playing altogether.. so no luck recording. So, I thought an automation clip would work, but I can't create one with either the original plug in (Podloksi) or through Vocodex, which is routed through it.
Am I just completely off here or? Lol Did that even make sense?
    Cheers!

@@jokeychan7526 just saying bro, certain instruments make a beat sound good, it's not even just the 808 in certain trap/drill beats but it's also as important as to what 808 you use with the melody! For instance, you could have all your drums laid down and if you change the hi hat the whole vibe of the beat is different....just from a hat lol, same goes for kicks/snares ect! My point is sound selection can change a whole vibe, I make dnb and it's all about sound design in that genre and automating frequencies in your bass designs, if I tried to use an acoustic bass on dnb it would sound absolutely terrible lol
