"If you don't have $70 and you don't have $40..." sounds about right
Proceeds to turn a high hat into an 808! Why didn't i think of that🤦♂️
...yeah, we are talking about musicians. This is why we buy beer for the band (which should be free).
Actually I found the stock plugin way far more interesting as just using a vst for that. you have so much more control about all that and especially you can do this with push or another midi controller
dont have $70 but has ableton live!!
Andrew: hear this 808.
My cellphone: ..........
that's what upper harmonics are for!

It’s so like Andrew to say “Here’s how to make an 808” and then do the most unconventional, roundabout method possible.
Legit just sample it
@@artvandelay3282 what if you want to feel special and brag about how you made an 808 out of a high hat? Huh? What would you do then?
I bet you also use the chord finder plugins as a life line too lmao
@@spacetaco048 bruh what? It’s a joke about how people call any bass sound an 808.

There's three ways a normal people would read 808's :
- Eight Hundred and Eight
- Eight Zero Eight
- Eight o Eight
or if you're me at 10 years old: BOB O'CLOCK
only sane people call it eight o eight, who says eight-hundred eight???
Tranquility in French the say “huit cent huit” which means “eight hundred eight” in English

Eighty & Eight
It was released in 1980, discontinued in 1984 due to poor sales. It was then picked up for cheap in pawn shops and became a cult classic. Really interesting history surrounding the 808, what an instrument
3:05 So this is how 2020 sound like....
YESSSS! ROFL!!!
It is amazing to think such a great piece of hardware came out so long ago and is still "Kicking":) Happy 40th bday TR808 EDIT: Also it is a pity the video is one second too long:(

8:09 for me

I didn't see that lol
I usually don’t watch Bestmaking Videos from people using other DAW‘s than the one that I use but your videos are really educational. U can learn so much
hell yeah, new andrew vid!
Thats the most none 808 sound ever. Fav drum machine!
an Andrew Huang video always makes me happy and motivated to keep trying out new stuff in music. thanks Andrew! and happy 808 day!!
Thanks for explaining the modern use of the term "808". Old folk like me get confused when people talk about an "808" as anything other than the drum machine sounds.
@@AlexAlcyone it's not misused, language just changes and evolves over time
I've learn more in this video about the stock plugins than most of the "stock pluggins tutorial" type of video!
Should’ve made an 808 using sounds from walking with the shoes
The amount of detail in this is just BVROOOOOMMM. Thanks Andrew!!
Really appreciate this video, Andrew! I'm in the Learn Monthly class right now and looking for a way to clean up my low-ends.
When he uploads my day Is then perfect
He literally waited to make a tutorial about 808 on August 8. That's epic 😂
YES! I needed this video so badly rn!
Method 2 was so dope, thanks for the inspiration as always! Never thought of making an 808 like that 🤯
I remember making 808 kicks and toms with 3 elements - 1 osc (sine or triangle wave) & 2 envelopes (one for pitch) on a really simple modular synth sample maker in the mid 90's - It's name escapes me at the minute.
There was violent tweeter nightmare in the first few attempts (think Kraftwerk blips) generating the samples on a 66Mhz CPU PC. This stopped when I dialled the pitch env way down. After that it was beef and scruff the sound up a bit and bingo!
S950 AKAI.
Damn you boomers had it tough back in the day. Can’t imagine having to make drums from scratch lmfao.
Perfect timing with this one! Was just getting into 808’s. Also, I’ve been wanting to mention that I’d be interested in a video on reggae/dub. Would be killer if you made a video and went over the theory, techniques, rhythms and or sounds used. For instance: “the bubble” on keys or the “dub” baseline. I don’t believe any of the elements are very technically challenging but you could spice it up by explaining how all the elements fit so well together to create the overall mix/ umami.
Wow! I love how you cooked up that 808! Really brings me back to those production challenge days...
Bad ass dude! One of the best demo's I have seen in a while.
Wish he would have talked about mixing 808’s. Making them isn’t all that difficult. Making them sound clean in a mix is another story.
You have to build all your elements around it if you want it clean, for example dont go for sounds that are going to resonating where the 808s overtones are
Honestly it's really just about high passing everything so that basically the only thing taking up the lowend of the mix is your 808
L I C K M Y N U T S
Frequency separation and sidechaining with bass, no?
Not necessarily tho
fam did you really purposely make this video 8mins and 8 seconds, that's god tier content right there, lol
Really awesome video! My favorite videos you do are the ones that are immediately applicable :) keep it up
I've learned so much production tricks from your videos. Thank you very much!

Damn being a men's size 13 in shoes is really a rough life out here
bro same
As a size 16, I get you.
gee guys
@zombiesrock61 Is that something about technology for virgins?
Or is it a rather ironic indicator of the quality of education one can expect from Virginia Tech?
Nathan Stolte - I wear size 13’s, as well. I’m also 6’-2”, 220 lbs. (188 cm, 100 kgs) if I want to find decent clothes that fit me, I often have to shop online, with companies that cater towards tall people. It’s not like tall people are rare, either. If you’re just looking for some cheap shirts or pants, don’t expect to find them at Walmart. I asked about it, and was told that Walmart doesn’t carry ANY tall sizes. Forget wearing any ‘one size fits all’ clothing. On the bright side, I live in a small farming community and we have a lot of stock, feed and farming equipment stores. They all carry jeans and work clothes, in tall sizes, at great prices. One store has Carhardt jeans for $22. Levi’s cost $35 at the mall, and they aren’t as comfortable and don’t last as long.
Being tall has its advantages, but also has its disadvantages. It takes me twice as long to do my grocery shopping, because people are always asking me to get things from the top shelf. I also have a lot of scars on my shins, from begging them into things. When my wife says something about it, I have to explain that my eyes are too far away from my feet. 😂
