Acidentally doing a masterclass in sound design is so Andrew
this looks so cool, the "as many as your CPU can handle" thing is already a huge standout
IKR LMAO
HAHAHAHA
And immediately, I'm like "what if your CPU is a potato"???
I agree, I like this aspect! UVI Falcon has basically the same kind of concept, and can add as many different oscillators and filters and effects as your CPU can handle.
Up to 30, but... come on. 30 oscs lmao wtf
Are we just not going to talk about Andrew's clone watering and speaking to the plants in the background? Ok. That's cool.
multitasking
faketask?
that's called intelligent editing
@@commentspae It's funnier to think he just knows how to clone himself.
@@ethan82714 it would help to explain how prolific he is. 😉
If your not aware, there have been a few updates to PhasePlant since the version featured in the video. If you haven’t done that, you might want to update! They added more unison functionality and its reaaaaly cool
Just grabbed the trial last night and spent an hour with it and a Keystep. Some epic 8 voice unison with another one as sub underneath just to go over the top.
Pretty cool!
New version is fking beast i don't think so i need serum anymore.
Woop new granular generator woop
I see so many people say that X VST or Y Synth is a "Serum killer" - I think Phaseplant is the only one that looks like it genuinely could be.
vital is coming out soon that seems to be a free serum + some extra cool features
@@fkeyzuwu Holy shit, I saw the video. It looks like it's gonna be amazing.
I've been using it for over a year. Despite owning both Serum and Massive prior, I've 100% switched over to Phaseplant.
@@fkeyzuwu dude I've seen some Livestream already ,that think is "NOT" a serum killer
But what about filters?
I’m loving the fact you have so much control over the parameters. I’m sure all synthesis enthusiasts will appreciate this one 🎹🙌🏾
your talent combined with the synths flexibillity is truly a sight to behold!
I love all these sounds! I can hear whole songs every time Andrew changes a preset and plays some notes. It's sooo cool!
The dreamy keys patch just made my jaw drop fr. So amazing that you can put on effects parallel to each other. Man that one was amazing
Super cool to see the samples I created for the Phase Plant library being used so beautifully on Polychrome! Really nice work, Andrew 🙏
that last patch was beautiful!! lovely chords too!
I’m glad you’re finally doing a video on this. I’ve been using phaseplant for a while and I love it.
This is without a doubt my favorite synth. Ive had it for a year or so now
It’s so pedagogical! This was the first video you’ve ever done where I feel like I really “understood” synthesis.
Glad to see you cover it ! I am a big fan on the plugin.
This is awesome Andrew and KH. Happy to have your presets alongside my factory presets. I love Phase Plant since day one, it's a true best of an instrument!!
I love its chaotic energy
sounds bad tbh
@@pocho3881 Surely you're only referring to the patches Andrew made, right?
@@trikinya stock patches
@@pocho3881 you're just bad at patching. The synth has no "sound" of it's own
@@1998Cebola I didn't patch anything, learn to read and understand, the stock patches are shit, some basses are good
Other alternatives for people who want to design their own synths:
- Native Instruments Reaktor
- Outsim Synthmaker
These two came to mind right away.
This looks really streamlined and easy to use though!
reaktor is probably my go to synth
VCV rack!
I agree on Reaktor, but it can get rather tinkery. UVI Falcon is I think a little closer in concept and interface to Phase Plant. I like Phase Plant for the audio rate modulation, but I like the sound of some of Falcons filters better (which sound more analog to me) and effects better than Phase Plants (which sound a bit more sterile).
From what I've heard, UVI Falcon allows you to do whatever routing/etc. you want... Though that being said, it seems UVI want nobody to buy their product since they don't offer a demo version
Bitwigs Polygrid is the real deal for me
This synth looks incredible. And those presets you made... wow. Just wow. So cool.
YESSS PhasePlant! So glad you're covering it. It's absolutely amazing, and hopefully more people realize how much you can do with it.
I like the layout. Soft synths usually look so cluttered and confusing even at default preset, because they have all the oscillators, filters, lfos and envelopes there even when you are not using them.
With this, it seems that you only have on table what you are actually using, hence you also know what each piece does.
I agree! It’s awesome! The only thing that keeps making me choose Serum is the amount of presets I have and are able to get when there’s a need for it. Make more phase plant presets that is just great to use in normal productions. It’s cool with fancy stuff that sounds like aliens, but it’s even cooler with great sounds for songwriting.
I love when you put up a new video and it inspires me to produce all day ❤️ Thank you
Love the UI of it so simple and easy to understand.
And you didn't even talk about the fact that you can play SPACE INVADERS inside the vst
I feel like post 2019, Phaseplant and Pigments 2 are top dogs right now. They set the bar so high, we may just have to come up with a new form of sound synthesis just to outdo them.
The possibilities with this are totally mind blowing! Love how clear your demonstrations are - great to see it in action. I may have to invest... 😆
Such an incredible synth! Thanks for the tips and tricks and that amazing BGM!
Wow I can’t wait until I have enough money to buy this in twenty years
Maybe you should review Vital when it goes out ;)
Who makes it? I tried searching but that's not a very specific word lol
@@rokko_hates_japan is Vital by VitalAudio, you can get some info in (www.)vital.audio/#getvital :P

Oh NOOOooooo!!!!!! I missed the deal on this incredible synth. Fantastic job Andrew, while watching this I had a smile all the way through. I was reminded of the joy I had creating sounds when I first started making music.
Always such clarity in your overviews Andrew.... this is bananas... I slept on this, even when you posted this eons ago, but I think I will go for it, whilst the PP V2 sale is on too..
I learnt more about "sound design" from this video than the usual "sound design tutorials"
I'm surprised with the fact that phaseplant is such a beast and yet not that many producer use it
phaseplant is everywhere lmao what are you talking about
not as much as serum is what i'm trynna say
@@toavnwub Massive was top dog for a long time before serum, though. I’m sure Phaseplant will catch up soon.
Phaseplant is about 500 € if you wanna have the complete version with all snap ins
@@toavnwub I've barely seen serum anywhere since this got released
Oh my, Andrew, that Dreamy Keys preset is gorgeous. I could listen to that forever. If you made a track with it, a la Tv & Video Games, I'd be over the moon.
So awesome to see you get behind Phase Plant, been using it since March and it made instant sense to me (and I'm not that experienced at synthesis relatively!)
The longer this went on, the further my jaw dropped lol That's an insane amount of control.
UVI Falcon 2 does everything here and more, but this does have a more friendly user interface, I'll give you that .
Beautiful walkthrough Andrew and certainly a killer piece of software! Wow!
i LOVE being able to see modulations move... i feel better that way
How can one guy be so talented at music and video production?
So "Theory Thursday" is going well, I see.
Just kidding. Love this.
looking forward to get the whole bundle!
After getting the full Phase Plant package last Black Friday, I ended up using the individual snap-ins more than Phase Plant itself but this video gives me some inspiration to give it a go again.
6:44 So it's like FM synthesis but for any parameter. HOLY
Phaseplant is cool and all, but has anyone ever heard of The Grid, native to Bitwig Studio?
Now, that's some serious GOAT material.
haha goat 🐐💨
Or Reaktor
Too much work in my opinion. Same for Reaktor.
@@maus3454 I have Reaktor but it isn't as friendly to use..
@@mikeyabut1047 It's better people like you stick to Serum. You wouldnt be able to make heads or tails about what is happening in the Grid lmao

This plugin is like the entire Bitwig DAW.
Or Sunvox! Sunvox is node based.
nah
Its a bit like the grid in bitwig.

completely Agree
not to be that guy but phase plant is really, really well known among sound design communities and also producers that create music that relies heavily on sound design
@@ardan981 yeah, the hype has been huge for moths, for good reason
Really hard not to love Kilohearts plugins. Phase Plant is by far my favourite soft synth, so many features you didn't even have time in your video to get around to the deep LFO and wavetable editors!
I'm living for these "Silent Huang" cameos.
Just wait till Matt Tytel's Vital comes out. It looks very promising for a free plugin.

*ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT*
Vital is amazin
Yes it is ❤️
just got my first 'system overload' from modulating a wavetable scream frame and i've never been so satisfied
Amazing synth plugin! wow. thank you. will be my go to synth now I think!
Fast forward to the v2 update, it really is the best. In sheer depth of sound design, Phase Plant wins hands down. In overall versatility, it's a bit of a fight with pigments 3.5 imo. It's such an exciting time to be a synth enthusiast.
The only other products you can really compare to Phaseplant, is Reaktor, Falcon, or Bitwig. Pigments is not even close.
@@pnutbuttajellee1394 I disagree, Pigments has an incredible depth for sound design as you have granular/additive/wavetable/analog/sampling for sound sources as well as a robust system for modulations. They are more comparable to each other than PP is to Reaktor/Falcon/The Grid imo as those require a lot more nuts and bolts patching work to get going.
The wavetables actually look lit! Now I have to get this plugin and the new version of Ableton when it comes out 🤣 Where’s my Ableton gang at?
Here!
Gaaaaang!
@@prod_joel.6321 ayyyyy
@@kaihall7437 let’s go!
Yeeee Ableton gang bissshhhh!!! Live 11 with 16 macros and comping ughhh I'm so happy
Well played, Kilohearts.
One thing worth noting at least when using with Ableton live is that the only way automate most parameters is by binding them to macros. So if you want to automate the frame position of a wavetable synth for instance, you have to have a macro knob dedicated just for that. For this reason I am still on the fence about buying it since I already own serum and most of the parameters can be easily automated with my DAW in serum. Enjoying the free trial though :D
mSoundfactory... has a learning curve, but its brutal.
Facts. It doesn't get the respect it deserves.
haha jokes on you for trying to make me use my money. I already have this plugin!!!!!!!

It really is the best virtual synth on the market right now for my purposes. I use it for almost everything.
Nice work! Thank you!

omg me too, i came to the comments to see if i was the only one
Same, went to go see how much my wallet needs to suffer for this. 170 isn't bad but too much for me as I'm only a hobbyist lol. I'd gladly pay 75 for it tho based on what I just saw in Andrew's video.
@@cineblazer i Have to agree on this. Lets wait for christmas and see what happens.. ;}
So I compared the saw wave of Phase Plant vs Serums and IMO, PP's sounds cleaner and thicker
Kind off, yea.
@@mrio0 Those little differences make a big impact on having a better sound
@@lmaoanatorhilarious2582 i mean, thats the point of a plugin lol
i'm new to much of the wavetables so i don't really have preferences but overall serum's sound engine sounds better to my ears...of course, it's all very subjective and Andrew is a master at making sounds outta PP
To my ears Serum's init Saw osc sounds a bit better. To each one his own
Ill be honest... I had a trial with this synth, amazing sound, but it took me a while to get the best and most of it... thank you Andrew for making it simpler :)
I love Kilohearts, phaseplant and multipass were God sends for sound design for me. Especially when you are trying to make neurofunk.
Andrew is underselling this, by using Snap Heap you can have unlimited parallell FX chains
You can use Snap Heap inside Snap Heap inside Snap Heap inside Snap ... yeah!
Hey, Andrew!
Just wondering if you ever use Vital and if you have any videos/tutorials on it? Loved to sound of Phase Plant, but been trying out the free download of Vital and trying to get my head around it all.
Cheers, man!
YES WE WANT VITAL
Watch Data Broth here on YT, he knows the best techniques you can do in Vital.
Thank god people finally start talking about it. Got mine a while back, and it's pretty much the only thing i've been using since. Only thing that's not so great is the lack of 3rd party presets out there, because this synth is so massively underrated.
Phaseplant reminds me of u-he Zebra.
Other nice features:
You can put Multipass and Snapheap as snapins in the effect chains and can nest them infinitely - this way you can have infinite parallel effect chains and dynamic multiband processing. You can also use the "modulator" Wavetables to have bend modes like in serum. You can even create and keyframe-animate your own Wavetables. You can FM samples with samples. With the loop options in the sampler you can have the looped section move along the sample over time for granular-like synthesis. You can use the Wavetable editor to do additive synthesis - you can copy just the phases from Wavetable to Wavetable and much much more. Kilohearts is awesome! Buy the full Toolbox - the tool family works so nicely together.
I would like to know what you think of the upcoming VITAL synth plugin.
Upcoming? Isn't it already out?

No Granular Synthesis :( - Also you broke their website Andrew
patch granular yourself, it's not very difficult
You can do granular of a sort. Use the sample sound source and set a really narrow envelope. There's a few videos about it right here on youtube

Phaseplant is obviously better than vital
Vital is merely a wavetable synth

This is petty similar to the grid from Bitwig, just not as complex.
