Oxygen Therapy and Cellular Regeneration with Dr. Shai Efrati | The Empowering Neurologist EP. 163

  • I'll never forget back in medical school that we were told that the brain was "terminally differentiated.” This means that brain cells were what they were, and could never be regenerated. As such, when a person had a stroke or brain injury, that was pretty much the end. There would be no improvement.
That understanding stands in stark contrast to what we have observed. Clearly, stroke patient can and do improve. And, it turns out, that this improvement can be enhanced with a type of therapy that applies pure oxygen under pressure to the patient. This increased oxygen in the brain does some wonderful things including, importantly, enhancing the growth of new brain cells. What a concept.
I have a long experience with hyperbaric oxygen therapy, having founded one of the countries largest hyperbaric centers. Much of the data upon which we relied came from researchers in Israel who were and continue to do cutting edge science demonstrating the profound effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as it relates to stroke recovery. Nowadays, improvements in brain functionality can actually be visualized with state of the art brain imaging equipment.
Today, on the Empowering Neurologist, I have the great honor of interviewing Dr. Shai Efrati, one of the global leaders in the application of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of stroke. Dr. Efrati is Founder and Director of the world-leading Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research at Shamir Medical Center, where he also serves as Director of Research and Development and Head of Nephrology. Dr. Efrati’s research focuses on novel aspects of hyperbaric medicine and brain rehabilitation. He is a professor at the Sackler School of Medicine and the Sagol School of Neuroscience in Tel Aviv University. Since 2008, he has served as Chairman of the Israeli Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine.
Importantly, Dr. Efrati is now associated with the Aviv Clinic, which is not only offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy, but a far more comprehensive approach for stroke recovery And fortunately, the clinic is located in the Villages, just outside of Orlando Florida.
Please enjoy this fascinating deep dive into the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, especially as it relates to stroke recovery.

For those who cannot afford this effective yet expensive treatment, there is another way to induce stem cell activation and proliferation through the HIF1 (Hypoxia inducible factor alpha1) pathway for free. You don't need to undergo hyperbaric pressure to achieve HIF1 activation. Simple breathing exercises such as Tummo breathing or the Wim Hof method can activate HIF1. These exercises alternate between low CO2/high oxygen saturation and high CO2/low oxygen state by doing cycles of hyperventilating and breath holding, which can unleash the regenerative power of the body. Life could be simpler if the medical profession focused more on doing good and healing people than on getting rich and famous (I am not referring to anyone in this video). Simple advice such as maintaining a proper diet, healthy lifestyle, and other life-changing cheap or free interventions are rarely given to those in need.

Ozone has been shown to help overcome cancer as well, and does not require a chamber. It's much more accessible, affordable, and clinically proven to be more therapeutic for cancer treatment than HBOT. Additionally, consuming
alkaline water helps as well. Cancer thrives in acidic environments.

Free energy (in the body ATP) is the kind of energy that is "available to perform WORK" (basic scientific definition). Without ATP the body cannot perform the WORK of repairing itself. Problem: Water doesn't flow on level ground, neither does energy, neither do the electrons stored in the free chemical energy stored in food. For electrons to flow through the body (so the body can perform the WORK of repairing itself) you need a GRADIENT. Oxygen to the rescue! One of the most electronegative elements in the periodic table, oxygen "pulls" electrons to itself like a magnet throughout the body, enabling mitochondria to use it to synthesize ATP. Stated figuratively, oxygen TILTS the metabolic landscape so electrons can FLOW from hi to low potential and be used by the body to perform the WORK of rebuilding/repairing itself.

Thank you Dr. Permulter, yes, one wonders WHY is this easily provided therapy not widely available by this juncture? No matter about the newly discovered ADDED benefits of altering higher levels of pressured oxygen, simply the pressure and high oxygen already help saturate tissues with needed oxygen, not a small crutch for waning/needy tissues.
The addition of tightly fitted oxygen masks used intermittently within the (generally) 2 hour sessions, resting at 2AT in pressurized high oxygen chambers/'suites - well - WOW!
I have issues (quite a few) that would be benefitted drastically by booking into the Orlando clinic, but I think a low number was $51K for a series of ? 40 2-hr visits, which I believe this clinic prescribes as minimal effective 'dose'. That's a LOT of wampum. And I am very unsure whether than includes the MRI's/other scans and Dr. visits, etc. Certainly it does not include a flight to Orlando, nor 40 days of food/transport/housing, etc.
But, maybe the change in my health trajectory (auto-immune inflammation among other brain/inflammatory tissue issues) might be worth every singly penny?? I think I'm one of those who must 'move to Mexico' for olde age either way I slice my health. (65 yrs f w/PsA & etc)

Anyone who says this cannot be achieved with a sift chamber at 1.3 ATA with supplemental oxygen and a properly fitted mask is wrong. You’re still using the mask and even release valve to drastically change the oxygen environment from very high to much lower, thereby triggering this cascade of healing events.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in hospitals is mostly between 2.0 and 3.0 ATA, but with the introduction of home hyperbaric oxygen chambers, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has begun to enter everyone's home. If it is just daily health care, 1.3~1.5ATA is enough, and disease treatment needs to be 1.5ATA and above.

Set our bodies back to a more healthful state. And at least for me the advancing is worst in beginning of disease process, now the process is slower. Also, most of us have brought anti inflammatory lifestyle to bear by now, so really would help to get this repair underway.
