Gnomes and Faeries were my two favorite books as a kid so it’s no wonder I absolutely adore her work!

Amazing. I aspire this career after having almost completed a PhD. I found myself in creating worlds and found my authenticity in going back to what I did when I was 11, watercolours and whimsical settings. Career change here I come 😅

Cool. As a aspiring faerie tale writer looking to work with a artist, what advice would you give to find a good fit? I found a artist who did a fantastic job reading my words and turning them into images. I was very excited. But the artist can't take even the slightest bit of feedback and can't get from concept to finished product.

She talks about "authenticity" and says that she creates her "own world" but she forgets to say that she is very inspired by Jean-Baptiste Monge, and in some way by John Howe and Tony diterlizzi. Lot of her sketches and paintings clearly reminds Monge and others REAL AUTHENTIC artists. Yes she is talented, but she really misses authenticity in her inspiration or in her techniques. And I think she knows that. I'm sad to say that but I'm very interested in illustrators since 25 years and I can easily say she is not authentic, even if she is talented.

They’re all very similar in style, truthfully. Her work is very reminiscent of Brian Froud as she mentioned which is pretty evident in her work that she was greatly inspired by him. I don’t think she’s being inauthentic if she didn’t name the artists you mentioned, no one has to admit every single artist that has inspired them. If she knows of them or not doesn’t matter really, her work is too colorful to be close to any of them. Maybe monge but his work is very drab in color, overall no true connection of each other’s work. Mostly Froud.

i think thats slightly small minded thought. authenticity is unique and can;t be boxed in i dont think...

@@elizabethhilfiger5872 you don't know what you're talking about. I know very well the art of Jean-Baptiste Monge and Diterlizzi and lot of others. And i immediatly saw that Compiet is not far from a thief in some of her sketches and wattercolors. So don't speek about "authenticity" when you talk about her faery art because she is clearly not "authentic". She has talent and skills but she really lacks authenticity. You should have a look at other artists who works hard for many years before saying some "small minded" things.

@@julienmerelli2191 The artists you mentioned were inspired by others as well. It's impossible to be 100% original because we're all learning from each other and consciously/ unconsciosuly observing the world around us, so I don't see your point about some artists being 'authentic' and others not unless they're blatently copying. Perhaps you can point me to an example of her 'copying?' But sharing some resemblances in art style and direction is nothing new as there are so many humans and so much art history.
If it's in terms of style, you mentioned numerous artists which you grouped together as having what you believe some resemblance to her style. If you can identify multiple artists with this similar style, where do you draw the line in them being "authentic enough" from one another, to Compiet's style not being authentic enough in your perspective?

@@julienmerelli2191 Iris clearly is "pushing your buttons". You should really check within yourself what you're projecting into her or her work. As Grace mentioned, no one can be truly "authentic" in the way that you're using the concept. Artists are nothing but an evolution from their influences. We cannot create something completely new from thin air, and that is a good thing, Julien.
