Billie unknowingly helped me deal with Cold Turkey in Brooklyn as I sat beside the Hi Fi and listened to her sing knowing she knew what I was going through as I cried... I was a 34 year old guy at that time way back in the early 1980s... Still clean and sober in 2022... Still love to hear Lady Day sing it like it should be sung... An Angel that was destroyed by more than Smack.
She, "Lady Day" has pulled me through treacherous territory as well. Kinship!

My Grampa was a *huge* Billie Holiday fan. He was a child of the depression living in Brooklyn. Life was really hard for him but Miss Billie and Judy Garland always made him happy. I miss him every day. ❤️

Who else is here after seeing the US vs Billie Holiday? It was just a snippet of her life but it was amazing. I have loved her forever, her voice gifted to me by my grandmother over the course of many Sunday mornings. Billie is amazing and her honey covered vocals continue to bless us ALL.

she takes summertime, one of the most haunting and somber songs in blues and sings it with zero sadness. upbeat, fierce and powerful. she's brilliant

I had my full set of Billie Holiday records put on tape, old reel to reel device but it sounds spectacular. My first real lover and boyfriend met me in August 2010 when I was just 20 and he left me in February 2011. I pained for weeks. Billie and Judy for me through the nightmare.

Her music brings me so much comfort. I’m going through the hardest break up I’ve ever gone through. It’s 4 in the morning and I can’t sleep. Idk why but listening to her soothes me in a strange way. It takes me back to a different time and makes me feel like I’m sitting at a bar drinking an old fashion with not a worry in the world. Like everything is completely okay, and I’m just sitting there enjoying billy holiday. Dam I really hope I get my girl back. I miss her so much.

I first got introduced to Billie Holiday when I was at school by my old English teacher and I’ve listened to her music now for nearly 40 years. There’s something timeless about her music and voice. The true sign of a real superstar and in my opinion singers these days could take a lesson from her and the other jazz greats.

Everyday I play a musician on their birthday in my classroom while my students work, they're in 3rd grade. This morning I was torn between two birthdays, and Billie is one of them. she's unique, she's immortelle. some are annoyed by her voice, but it is exactly her voice that makes a stamp over hundreds other female jazz singers, inconfundible once you are a jazz listener, some people know THIS voice even if they don't listen to jazz usually
few tigers could get inside a song and make it seem like she was giving you a glimpse into her soul, you know that what she sang she lived and it shows in her expressions of joy, pain , anxiety, frustration and weariness. in other words, she was the real thing and now she's free, living on in the gift she left behind for us, her songs.

Billie had a Silky Smooth voice in her early days. her voice changed in her later year as well. She had such a Beautiful Voice❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't think she ever had a silky smooth voice...
Unfortunately the abuse of drugs did change her voice.
However I always felt the emotions and the fragility in her singing.
I always felt that she needed to find a really loving partner, not an abuser.
She encompass the blues by her being...sad , tragic and beautiful.
