An icon of 20th and 21st century music, the voice of the civil rights movement, and the undisputed Queen of Soul-there is only one Aretha Franklin. In her incredible six-decade career, Aretha evolved from teenage gospel star to reigning pop and R&B diva, recording classics like “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain Of Fools”, “Think” (lyrics by Aretha Franklin), definitive versions of the songs “Respect” and “I Say a Little Prayer”, and global hits like “Freeway Of Love,” “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”, and “A Rose Is Still A Rose.”
Altogether, 112 of her singles reached the charts, with 20 No. 1 R&B singles, the most ever by a female artist. She won 18 Grammy Awards (including the first eight trophies for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance) and, out of recognition for her for indelible contribution to American music and culture, received both the Presidential Medal Of Freedom and a Pulitzer Prize. - Hudba
Saw Aretha at a little club in Philly in the 60’s. She sat at the piano, played and sang. The club held less than 50 people at individual tables. Boy, did she take off! Sistah Queen. She and I born same year!
She already said she sang better when she sat and played the piano.

People are complaining her “pops” left out. Respect the Queen. She had so much more than the general public appreciates.

Aretha was my mom's all time favorite. May both Queens RIP

Ok Detroit love!!!! Im so excited to see this movie. After your comment im teally going now.
hello cheryl, how are you doing?
Did you watch Genius? It's a hundred times better.
I just saw the movie too! I went through a gambit of emotions; angry when the guy went into her bedroom, also when her husband beat her, cried when she heard about MLK, Jr being shot, (still get tears when I think of him being shot) cheered her on when she kicked her husband to the curb and laughed with her as she lived in victory after healing from the pain in her life.
It is Redding greatest hits
Who ever put the song selection together is absolute Genious. I sang , cried, and enjoy every second I listened. Thank you.

My mom and aunt were such Aretha Franklin fans that they all could pass as triplets. I'm sure that they are all together in heaven up above having a great time.🙌🕊🕊🕊
Hello ,how are you doing, how is the weather treating you ?
Quite possibly.
Aretha is the Queen of Soul in heaven. She gave a lot of her bread (that's hippie for money) to the Civil Rights Movement. Something really strange happened to me the day before she got her wings. I heard her sing an old Beatles song All the Lonely People. She does it a little awesomely different. She sings I'm Eleanor Rigby. I died in the church.
I started Rocking with Ree when I was five years OLD and to this day in 2021. "I'm still rocking with ARETHA. !!! I LOVE HER FOREVER.

I grew listening to Aretha. My mother was a big fan. I comprehend the lyrics based on what mood my mom was in based on my stepfather behavior. Especially if he messed on payday (like chain a fool or me oh my😮)Back then children were only interested in dancing to the beat. As I listen to her lyrics as an adult. Aretha was romantic at heart(Daring you send me)❤)and she didn't have problem stalking a brother if need be( Until you comeback to me😅)Thanks for the great memories. There's not artist living or dead worthy of being called a QUEEN. Aretha was multitalented, classy and she wrote her own lyrics. Aretha never needed an entourage. Aretha stood alone. RIP👸🏽❤️🕊️💐🎤

Hello Eileen, hope you’re okay?
Couldn't agree more. IMO Aretha Franklin Genius was 1000 times better than the Respect movie that came later. I've always been in love with Mrs. Franklin for a long as I can remember hearing music, and now my children 10, 10, and 8 are mega fans. 🥰 You can feel her soul in every note. Pure beauty.
Im 62 & I grew up loving oldies! Smooth jazz like Michael Franks, then Disco like Donna Summer!!! Man those were the Days💯✔️ REAL MUSIC🔥🔥🔥🔥
I so love jazz too. It's all begotten from churches as the first drop.
How can you listen to this woman sing "Ain't No Way" and not feel like she is begging YOU personally to let her love make you into the greatest man you can be.... It's like God himself saying "I can't love you if you won't let me!" Angel from heaven.
Good point!
Preach, Brother !!! Preach that good word. #MyDude
right!!!
Ain’t No Way has always been my favorite by her. Chill bumps still. Miss Cissy Houston is singing the high note in the song too. Classic Aretha!!
I listen to that song the most. 🤗❤
She should be called now " The Immortal Goddess of Soul." What a beautiful lady and extraordinary voice.
I agree!
Definitely a GODDESS!❤
Having known Miss Franklin it was after she passed that a lot of times she didn't consider what she did so much as singing but as preaching almost or just telling a story. She was one of the most prolific storytellers of our time. She was in a word: GENIUS! A word rarely if ever used to describe women! Yafeelme?!
After watching the movie Respect Which ushered in wonderful memories and harsh realities of the past laced with the hard to swallow darkness which many females face. I am inspired with the feelings of the power and motivation of both pessimism and optimism to do more to help make the world around me a better place with equality justice unity and peace for all. I believe God’s way is the best way. Aretha gave much, she certainly gave her all during the good bad and ugly against all odds. God in His faithfulness made all things work for the good. Yes, after watching Respect with The amazing Jennifer Hudson I have a much deeper love appreciation and respect for our Queen of soul Aretha Franklin…
She's the best and I will always keep listening to your wonderful voice

That just means those poor sad 682 tone deaf people have no taste, so sad for them that they can't hear what we hear.
Don't worry about them..

Regretting that I let an opportunity to see her "Live" go past. Our true music legends are leaving us. I will try to not that happen again. I am thankful for memories of listening to her on the radio as a young girl and repeating some lyrics I had no idea of its meaning. It was funky and so beautiful, so I guess my mother let it slide. I was born in 1956 I a little town in Wales of the United kingdom I used to go to bed under the covers listening to the pirate radio show. I loved all the 70s classics especially dusty Springfield then one night still under the covers so not to get in trouble with my parents came this voice that u held my breath it was Aretha maybe this country did not understand the brilliance strike I certainly did
There's no DOUBT, the QUEEN, but this VOICE sang with & set loose on the world, the White SOUL SISTER FROM ABERDEEN- ANNIE LENNOX.
" SISTERS ARE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES!"
Years later ARETHA would call ANNIE back to the States to do ," Chain of Fools." ANNIE flew in from London & did just that.
European singers were heavily influenced by ARETHA.
Does anyone remember Lisa Stansfield?
These singers today ,CANNOT hold a candle to ARETHA, but ARETHA DOESN'Tsing with just anyone; that honor was granted to ANNIE LENNOX, my favorite singer/songwriter.

Ree Ree with the Rah Rah! I love her voice, phrasing and the way she can work a song! She can even hum better than some vocalist sing. She was a true genius. She could write, arrange, produce and orchestrate. She could deliver a song in a unique way. No wonder very few attempted to sing her songs while she was here. She made it seem so easy. Ice cream, potato chips, and hot dogs were our drugs of choice. I was the DJ. She would wash and braid my hair and let me play as many 45s as I wanted. I would sometimes fall asleep at the record player. She’s been gone for decades but I will forever remember just how special she treated me. I’ve learned that nothing in life remains the same. We have our music.... it’s universal and it lives on as do our memories.
Hello Gwennyth..
What lovely memories Gwennyth. It's funny how little things like that which happen to us as children make such a huge and lifelong impression on us and shape who we become later in life.
Am I the only one that hears Michael Jackson when I listen to her for long enough?! He had to listen to her a lot! Man what an era. How sad is it that we're still struggling with so much that they fought so hard for?! ❤️💔❤️
Saw the movie last night and a totally new found respect for this Queen of Soul…..may she R.I.P. and her legacy live forever❤️
She's the best and I will always keep listening to your wonderful voice
The Queen of Sole was my mother favorite 🎉😊and even though she no longer with us. I can still hear and 👀 see her just SMILE ING AS SHE PAT HER FEET SAYING SING IT GIRL. LORD KNOWS THAT I MISS HER BEING 😢 😔 HERE WITH US. 😢 But I'm so glad that I have those wonderful memories 💖 ❤️ ♥️ 💕 💓
Aretha Franklin rest in peace .....God got you with now......
Hello Linda..
@@fredjohnson9997 Hello Fred
@@lindafeaster1275 how are you doing today, I hope you are having a beautiful day..??
I'm grateful I'm alive here now and can listen to her
Aretha was just ONE of the best of ALL the musicians in the world. I never get tired of listening to her or Tina Turner💖💖💖
Ever since 2010, Respect has always been one of my favorite songs from Aretha, May she rest in peace
She was a gifted lady
I could be so depressed or just sitting here wanting to eat....lol but if I put on "Rock Steady" or "Respect" real loud, it just gets me up dancing and smiling and she is just this force that has so much soul and talent......words can't describe some people's talents...She's amazing.
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather treating you ?
A lot of songs are missing. Aretha’s got hits for days!!! Simply the greatest👑💯
A lot of songs are missing!
@Betty Etheridge You don’t even know!!! Those three songs are some of my favorites by her. You have splendid taste!!! Aretha was genius, she wrote 2 of those 3!
@Betty Etheridge I’m a guy but absolutely 😂 The whole family was super talented! You should check out “Without Love”, which Carolyn wrote for Aretha 🔥🔥🔥. You stating those facts!!!
@Betty Etheridge let me know what you think about it!
My favorite? Chain of Fools. I was mesmerized the first time I heard it in '67. Love the bass, the harmonies, the soulful backup voices, and, of course, Aretha's masterful lead. I still have to stop and take this song in whenever I hear it.
I hear you me tooo i stop and cut up shaking my ass left to right i cant get enough of her song's they bring back soooo much of the good old days of my family dancing 💃🏿🕺🏾❤ and parties 🎉 having the best time of our lives and dad taking it away cutting up the floor for 12 minutes straight ooooh was i burn out. It was joy to my heart and laughter.. but here 2024 has begun, and all of them now are in heaven dancing 🕺🏾 💃🏿 watching down on us now, so sad. But listening to Mrs.Franklin music brings back comfort and joy 😊..🫶🏿✝️🙏🏿🙌🏾🫶🏿❤️😍
Last spring, my wife and I attended the musical "Respect". The cast and the band were excellent. When the first gritty guitar riffs and pounding bass of "Chain of Fools" filled the theater, my eyes immediately filled with tears. I sobbed through the entire song. I'm a 70 year old man. I was grateful that the theater was dark. I don't think my wife even noticed, but I was overcome by Aretha's living soul that night.@@juliabrown4398
I was in Elementary School when these amazing songs came out,..."Respect,." "Think." and, " "Change, change, change...Change of fools...""😎😎😎😎😎
