  • This is literally the first time I drove this car, just finished wiring the gauges and buttoned up a few vital things. Sorry I keep glancing down at the laptop, I didn't realize how much I was doing it while driving. HPTuners kept disconnecting so I wanted to make sure the log didn't freeze. I plan to record some real driving once I have exhaust and a proper tune - maybe an autocross or two.

    How much money do you have into the car if you don’t mind me asking, looking at doing a similar build but with a junkyard ls2.

      I've been building this car for 4 years now, and tried to keep a spreadsheet of every dollar I spent on it, and subtracted things I sold. But, I had a harddrive crash and lost the excel file. :(
      I have somewhere between $15-17k in my car, including the car itself, wheels/tires, brakes, suspension parts, interior parts, etc... The drivetrain/swap is probably $10k of that. Obviously every build is different, but I think the swap would cost $6-10k for most people. If you shop around and get used parts and find good deals you can do it a lot cheaper; but when I needed something I bought it new and paid retail for most everything(Summit, Jegs, Speedway, or one of the Datusn suppliers. ) A few parts I found used/cheaper, but a lot of it I could have done cheaper if I tried. I will say, it adds up and the swap can nickel and dime you to death lol
      A rough parts list off the top of my head:
      $500 - Used 5.3 engine
      $75 - F-body oil pan/pickup tube
      $700 - Wiring Specialties engine harness
      $2000 - Used T56, clutch, shifter
      $150 - Clutch master cyl, quick connect fitting/adapters
      $1200 - headers & exhaust system
      $250 - Driveshaft shop alum driveshaft
      $350 - LS2 intake/rails/injectors + DBC throttle body
      $500 - Front accessory drive setup and LS3 water pump
      $600 - Fuel cell, pump, regulator, AN lines/fittings$500 - Other misc parts like engine gaskets, air filter/tubing, o2 sensors, rad hoses, header bolts, spark plug wires, fluids, etc...
      $400 - CV axles and adapters$600 - Autometer gauges$250 - radiator
      That's $8k and just what I can think of from the top of my head, and my pricing may not be exact. Doesn't include motor/trans mounts because those were made from scratch and I only have material costs in them. I also got lucky as some things were already upgraded when I bought it. My car came with an R200 CLSD z31 diff, so I didn't need to upgrade that... only the axles. Already had rear disc brake swap, some suspension work, frame rail stiffener kit, etc....

    I'm doing a swap now going with a 350 small block its the t56 trans the best way to go??

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 3 lety

      T56 is a great trans but they're pricey for LS engines. Luckily, you doing a SBC can use an LT1 t56 and they're a lot cheaper. Much stronger than most of the 4-5spds that are available unless you spend big money on them.

    what rear end / axles are you using?

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 7 lety

      Ortega Drives its a z31 r200 clsd, and stock axles (lol). I have a pair of z31t CVs to swap in, I just haven't wanted to tear it apart yet

    I just did the same swap on mine what gauges are you using and how much did they cost

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 3 lety +1

      They are Auto Meter Sport Comp series 5" digital programmable speedo & tach. I think the speedo was a little over $200 and the tach around $160. The auxiliary gauges in the center of the dash are Ultra Lite series, because I used to be able to buy them used/cheap from a stock car supply shop (living in NASCAR country has its perks). Before they all went to digital dash displays, you could pick up used Auto Meter gauges & senders for like $20-40.

    Can I ask which model LS you put in this?

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 6 lety +2

      Sure, Its a truck iron block 5.3 with LS2 intake manifold. Small cam, shorty headers, t56 transmission.

    • @phoenix4740
      @phoenix4740 Před 6 lety

      Mark Pelto Thanks, man. Really love this build. I'm planning on doing an LS swapped 240z myself and am doing some research to see which version of the LS would be best.

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 6 lety +1

      They're all good, go with what you can afford. Anything with an aluminum block is going to come at a premium. If you can get an LS1, LS2, LS3 or even an aluminum 5.3 for a bargain - do it. But the iron motors are usually half as much money. You can add a cam and good heads later and have nearly the same power, at a roughly 80lb weight penalty.

    • @phoenix4740
      @phoenix4740 Před 6 lety

      Mark Pelto Wow I actually didn't know that. Thanks!

    • @rudyd.7231
      @rudyd.7231 Před 6 lety +1

      I'd definitely do an ls1 or ls3 swap bc it only makes sense to put a sport car motor into another sport car not a truck motor. Plus ls1 has about 90 more hp and tq than a 5.3. A built NA 5.3 might get you in the 350 hp/tq zone where as the ls1 will put you closer to 500. AND ls1 sounds like a beast ,that's why i chose that for my s130.

    • @ZspotMotorsport

      They are first gen Toyo R888 track tires. Discontinued, they make the R888R now, slightly different tread pattern.

    What wheels do you have??

    • @ZspotMotorsport
      @ZspotMotorsport  Před 5 lety

      These are Basset Racing Inertia steel wheels. 15x8 and 15x10. They are pretty heavy and you need to use special lugnuts. They also do not center on the hub, but only the lugs. I don't have them any more, sold them and got some 15x9 Rotas. Working on some new mods and a new video soon.
