Alphaville Reaction, Reaction to Big In Japan - Hudba
"Big In Japan is about a couple who are addicted to heroin and want to get off the drug. The couple imagines what life would be like without drugs, but they don't make it. Big In Japan is set in the drug milieu of Berlin. - Alphaville singer Marian Gold
Yep
This is a true 80's classic. The entire album "Forever young" from 1984 is a classic with big hits like "Big in Japan", "Sounds like a melody" and perhaps the biggest success, the ballad "Forever young".
Alphaville was a big competitor to synthpop bands like Depeche mode (which is my band) Duran Duran, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Eurythmics etc. during this time in the early/mid 80's.
The "Forever young" album was Alphaville's debut album, the subsequent album "Afternoons in utopia" was also quite ok, but they then lost the quality of the records/songs and the band fell out of the limelight. Much due to the fact that the songwriter from the debut album left the band already after the first album - whereupon they found it difficult to maintain the quality of the songs.
Wow, thanks for the response. The keyboard player, Bernhard, was my neighbor when I was a kid and they were just having their first successes
Eso fue un gran privilegio por tu parte amigo. Me alegra mucho saber estas cosas 😊
Omg I bloody love this song so I’m pleased you’ve reacted to it! I was born in 1970 so was about 14 when this was released which makes me feel ancient at hearing it again lol 😂
OOOH... I love Alphaville!!! You should listen to "Forever Young"... "Sounds like a melody"... "A victory of love"... all the songs from the first album.
Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Alphaville and the Cure ruled 80s synthpop
Gotta add New Order and Pet Shop Boys to the list too!
Talk Talk
I love Alphaville, especially the first 2 albums (Forever Young & Afternoons in Utopia)! Both albums are full of great songs. This & Forever Young were their two biggest, but I really love Dance with Me, Jet Set, To Germany with Love, Victory of Love, Lassie Come Home, Jerusalem, & Afternoons in Utopia! Marian Gold is a great singer!
For a 1980s time warp please react to Talk Talk - My Foolish Friend. Mark Hollis voice is also enchanting to the point of haunting.
This was a big hit here in europe. Still have the 7" single in the collection. Funny that this song was not big in Japan. :)
You must listen to A Victory Of Love and Forever Young too.
Another tip for you. An 80's synth favorite of mine. Propaganda - P Machinery. It's a good one!
I love them so much! ❤ Great reaction, I'd suggest another hit of theirs 'Sounds like a melody', absolutely amazing in my opinion, I hope you like it!
Love love Alphaville😃
Great song! Great band…the whole album is amazing
Other sounds of theirs worth catching:
Forever young - original slow version
Forever young - special dance fast version
Dance with me
Sounds like a melody
Red rose
A great classic from 80s !
So next should be Sandra, CC Catch or Modern Talking 😎
It would be interesting to see the reaction on Enigma
Alphaville comes from West Germany - English isn't their native language. There is definitely an obsession with the Japanese culture (or Eastern culture in general) in 80's (especially in Germany, e.g., Michael Cretu - Samurai). But I suggest to listen Camouflage - another band from West Germany that is closer to Depeche Mode (Great Commandment was their first major hit)
Another band greatly influenced by Depeche Mode. Alphaville had quite a selection, OMD and New Order as well
Nothing like DM
They are German. Germans always deliver. Whether it’s music or cars.
The scorpions with the wind of change another insane German band
I always loved it when this got played in the nightclub. About two people and their drug use and that things would be different being big in another country.
Alphaville, Camouflage, De/Vision best German synthpop bands. Forever Young,, Dance with me, Souns like a melody, A victory of love, Romeos, Dance with me, Iron John, Jerusalem,,,,,and more songs of Alphaville. 🤔You should think about reviewing Alphaville's discography once you finish Depeche Mode's.
There's an AI michael jackson cover of this. Sounds really good
Qué recuerdos de mi infancia ❤ alphaville forever ❤️
You Look like Nick frost from shaun of the dead😂❤
You honestly wouldnt believe the amount of people who have said that to me here on CZcams haha. Atleast 2 times a week i hear it lol
the biggest hit in europe back in the 80's
There were many great German bands in the 80's. Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue, Boney M are one of the best examples. You could react to them as well.
The idea of the song was about bands that had it hard time succeeding in Europe back then, so they would try their luck in the east countries, like Japan, where they could easily get better recognition, before coming back to Europe.
Maybe the best debut album ever!
This song has quite a deep meaning. One of the topics is about being welcomed and having popularity in a far foreign country, but not in your homeland (aka being "big in Japan"). It is better to read about all of this yourself.
Please Modern talking band 🙏🙏.
1980s are a decade where the lyrics can lose you mate.
Very good German s band of 90’s or 80’s I don’t know anymore 😂yes Seph thanks
@zerudadensetsu4392: 1984, so 80s and actually this hit was number 8 on the UK Singles Chart.
Hey Seph , you should do more German Electro Pop like Boytronic (you) or the Twins (Game of chance) or De/vision (Foreigner) , Camouflage ( the great comandment) etc .....
aa austrian i want to know almost 40 years, how is the singer marian golds english, good or bad?
I would say pretty good. His pronunciation is very good.
just think they made a career with 2 songs.
They had many other songs and albums, some of them are much better than the first hite, but the people and the media weren't interested enough.
Big in Japan, Dance With Me, Forever Young are definitely the 3 big ones, the latter 2 definitely the bigger hits, but they had loads of good songs

2 songs?
This is the only song I know of theirs lol.
@@RITWINS if you haven't heard Dance With Me and Forever Young I highly recommend them, both classics in their own right and I suspect you have actually heard them both, perhaps not realizing it's Alphaville
foreign [Music].. yes
Good song but I prefer Sounds like a melody. I find it darker. Big in japan is the DM's Just can't get enough...a little bit boring 'cause heard too much😊.
