Using Algebra and Geometry in the Real World

- You hear terms like “algebra” and “geometry” and these theories we memorized in high school start to dance a jig in our heads - a jig many of us weren’t overly interested in! But the past decade has seen an explosion of applications of algebra, geometry, and topology to the real world, like their use in creating the computer vision that will merge tomorrow’s vehicles onto the freeways themselves. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) calls it applied algebra and geometry, and will showcase world-class researchers and their groundbreaking work in the field in its newest journal, SIAM Journal on Applied Algebra and Geometry. Learn more about this changing area and journal - launching in 2017 - in this video!

Me trying to convince myself that all that math I learned during high-school is useful.
There's literally no real world application of that useless shit, ive been researching lately and thats how i ended up here, every "application" is just some bullshit thing that didn't even need to learn algebra for, teachers and ppl that support this crap will try and say it actually really helps when it really doesnt do shit, like i saw something that said calculating trajectory is a use of algebra. If thats the case, why tf were we subtracting and adding letters instead of calculating trajectory? And something like calculating trajectory doesnt require years of that garbage its basic physics. This crap will never be useful, just baseless useless conservative garbage. Like what she said about how geometry and algebra help the robots that build cars at 1:17 if thats the fucking case why dont you isolate those bs classes to the minute few that need them. Even if it has a real world application, it doesn't have a real world application for everyone in their daily lives as apposed to physics, which directly affects you daily and applies anytime you move or dont move, literally. The driver doesn't need to know how to be an engineer or a fuckimg mathematician as being so would provide him zero benefit because he just drives the car. Not make them. Hopefully their are more ppl that think this way than ones who dont. I think there are.
@@codyrodrigo1036 If that's a joke then it's a really good one because I haven't laughed that much in a while. If it's not a joke then I'm sorry. My intention was not to offend or anything. It's just hard to make out if it was intended joke or not but it's so funny😂
Achyuth Thouta lol
OMG I'm laughing hard
Baal
still not something that should be considered a necessity to students 💀
For careers like engineering. We need calculus which algebra is a pre requirement
From my experience over 40 years in numerous engineering projects, I seldom if ever directly used the mathematics.
However, for the maybe 10% of engineers in hardcore Research and Development, the math is used often.
So, millions of engineering students are being "over-educated" for a role they will never fill.
It's really more vital to use the math to approximate and check the validity of software generated solution sets, imho.
This sounds like that scene in the beginning of the movie "astro boy" 😮
This was a class assignment I LOVE THIS
Nice
Geometry Is beautiful
It's all around us
I find it easier then algebra basics so far
True its fucking stored in my brain to rot there
My instructor forced me to watch this
Great details in future I want to be an engineering how to build cars.
Great presentation. The pills becoming parts of the DNA was clever.

I'm astounded by the insightfulness of this content. A book with similar substance offered me a wealth of knowledge. "A Life Unplugged: Reclaiming Reality in a Digital Age" by Theodore Blaze
mind blowing
So why should i do this when i want to become a chef?
Jeremy Aster shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Chef dont get lots of money most of the times
@@steffy1727 ok, but how would this apply to voice acting
Soundwaves
Everything is just math and physics
Typing is your fingers changing between axis
awesome
great video!
nice
i can just hire people to do this extra shit for me??
shayaan mannan nope
Ok, I've watched a few videos now and It seems that algebra is 100% useless UNLESS you plan on using it in one of these scientific fields. Which, in practicality, most people will never go into these careers. So it is literally pointless for 99.999# of students.
“99.999%”
No wonder why you suck at algebra
@@soupman3285 It's just a symbol that too in CZcams comments. Don't worry, his teacher won't cut his number
garbabe vibeo
I ♥ Maths
Jerry Glass what is wrong with you😂😭
@ANONYMOUS I hated them so much too. Somehow, the path I took in life required me to face them, so... I couldn't continue to hate them.
@@imstealthy4640 I learnt that in life, regardless the circumstance, we only have two choices: Make Excuses or Make Progress. I chose one.
Jerry Glass thats true but math is still evil.
@@imstealthy4640 Well... you have your reasons.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Somthing about how the girl voices everything feels very uncomfortable and kind of dystopian
Geometry over algebra 💯% algebra is trash
I can’t wait to use these cutting grass
nice
