  • You hear terms like “algebra” and “geometry” and these theories we memorized in high school start to dance a jig in our heads - a jig many of us weren’t overly interested in! But the past decade has seen an explosion of applications of algebra, geometry, and topology to the real world, like their use in creating the computer vision that will merge tomorrow’s vehicles onto the freeways themselves. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) calls it applied algebra and geometry, and will showcase world-class researchers and their groundbreaking work in the field in its newest journal, SIAM Journal on Applied Algebra and Geometry. Learn more about this changing area and journal - launching in 2017 - in this video!

There's literally no real world application of that useless shit, ive been researching lately and thats how i ended up here, every "application" is just some bullshit thing that didn't even need to learn algebra for, teachers and ppl that support this crap will try and say it actually really helps when it really doesnt do shit, like i saw something that said calculating trajectory is a use of algebra. If thats the case, why tf were we subtracting and adding letters instead of calculating trajectory? And something like calculating trajectory doesnt require years of that garbage its basic physics. This crap will never be useful, just baseless useless conservative garbage. Like what she said about how geometry and algebra help the robots that build cars at 1:17 if thats the fucking case why dont you isolate those bs classes to the minute few that need them. Even if it has a real world application, it doesn't have a real world application for everyone in their daily lives as apposed to physics, which directly affects you daily and applies anytime you move or dont move, literally. The driver doesn't need to know how to be an engineer or a fuckimg mathematician as being so would provide him zero benefit because he just drives the car. Not make them. Hopefully their are more ppl that think this way than ones who dont. I think there are.

From my experience over 40 years in numerous engineering projects, I seldom if ever directly used the mathematics.
However, for the maybe 10% of engineers in hardcore Research and Development, the math is used often.
So, millions of engineering students are being "over-educated" for a role they will never fill.
It's really more vital to use the math to approximate and check the validity of software generated solution sets, imho.

Ok, I've watched a few videos now and It seems that algebra is 100% useless UNLESS you plan on using it in one of these scientific fields. Which, in practicality, most people will never go into these careers. So it is literally pointless for 99.999# of students.
