    • @miserirken

All the Small Things: Yeah this song might be dumb simple and by the numbers, but that's exactly why i like it, it's so dumb i can't help but love it.
Crawling: This song is way too special for me, but even ignoring that, there's a lot going on in Crawling instrumentally speaking, like if you're a musician you'd apreciate its composition. People usually judge it for its lyrics (and even that, a lot of people can relate to them) and overexposure (and that's not the song's fault).
Kid A: Yeah, it's a weird ass track for sure, but that's exactly the kind of shit i expect from Radiohead. It's hard to digest but when it's finally click on you, you come in term with it. It's weird yet not bad per se, quite the opposite.

@@miserirken I agree with you and the post before. Maybe I'm weird, but I like to shuffle my music library, and I have found unique merit behind each song I listen to. I can't remember the last time I sat down and listened to an entire album from beginning to end. Ever since the days of iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify, it has not been necessary to purchase an entire album to enjoy good music. Perhaps this guy has a slightly outdated (but not necessarily less valid) method of consuming music that leads to different conclusions. I don't know. In the end, isn't beauty in the eyes of the beholder?

The Downward Spiral is a concept album about a man driven to self destruction by all kinds of thing (disdain for authority, sexual frustration, rejection, ect.). Big Man With a Gun is a major climax in the narritive. It's ugly and difficult to listen to, and that's probobly intentional. Taking that part away is like cutting the chestburster scene out of Alien.

As far as Linkin Park goes I went from genuinely liking them, to finding them cringy during university and now I have embraced the cringe and appreciate them culturally, as well as the fact, that their teen angst cringe is still catchy and VERY digestable and feels honest to boot. Can't say the same thing about "All the Small Things". That one's appeal just completely started wearing off on me over time.

To me it's better than Captain Bligh or Miss Blue, maybe even Welcome to the Fold. Finally... Rarely had anyone heard that sort of experimentation before, and to expose that to the masses, rather than niche underground 60's counter-culture, I think was a huge deal. As was said, sound collages and tape experiments were far from "rare" back in '68. However, they were mostly limited to "classical" composers and other academic artists like Luigi Nono and Stockhausen. The remarkable thing about Revolution 9 is that it's done by pop artists, and you can hear the pop sensibilities in that track: it's far more narrative, dynamic, intense and also _humourous_ than "classical" tape experiments tended to be back then. Also, it's good to remember that, even though Lennon was largely responsible for putting the track in the album, all of the Beatles were into this kind of stuff. From Paul McCartney's accounts, _Carnival of Light_ was even more bonkers.
If you wanna hear some really boring and unimpressive "avantgarde", listen to _Two Virgins_ by John and Yoko. I think that album deserves all the critique that Revolution 9 (unfairly) gets.
P.S.: saying that Revolution 9 is the result of drugs is so fucking normie.

That was a fair list. Personally, I have nostalgia for "All The Small Things" as a karaoke track with my brother but even I'll admit it's not special.
And I respect your view towards "Crawling". (I'll even admit it could have been swapped with "In The End" as far as placement goes). I do genuinely think that while it is cheesy in moments, it is one of Chester's best vocal deliveries on Hybrid Theory. That is definitely bias on my end. I'll own that.

Stuff like Sex Pistols, Pride & Glory, Mother Love Bone, it's niche but some of those albums are like Filter's album here and are being lost to time almost.

I definitely commend you for your opinion on Crawling. As I grew up, I, too, was interested why this was the second biggest song off HT.
My guess is the simplicity of it made it more easily relatable to the public at the time and, of course, the raw emotion you can clearly see Chester giving to the song. I don't think it's bad by any stretch nor does it interrupt the flow of the album (not any more than your typical ballad on a rock album), but I do agree Points of Authority, One Step Closer, Place for My Head, Forgotten, Papercut, and most other songs on the album are better by comparison.
