The older I get the more I enjoy watching series like this. Being able to see glimpse of other countries & cultures is truly fascinating.
agreed. these countries are so beautifully done by National Geographic channels!!!!
Same. I’m about to go off to college, and I mean it’s like a switch how my tastes in hobbies and what I watch has changed. Lol.
Bro I'm from there
Lol I live in New zealand
Stewart Island sucks there's only one pub
Gordon: "Some chefs would gently tenderize these, but that's not how they do it here"
Zane: "Wrap it up In a cloth and give it a wack with a rock" 😂
😂😂
Diving and fishing is such a big part of NZ culture. We are basically all surrounded by oceans/ rivers so it's awesome seeing Gordon doing it in my back yard
Yeah, and the price of seafood is OUTRAGEOUS in spite of that. Dredge the seas and send all the best stuff overseas for foreign markets.
Same bro
@@Infern0121 getting ripped off by our own people :/
Pretty big miseducation here. NZ have some of the strictest fishing rules in the world. Trawling is illegal, and poachers are most often from overseas.
I will say our fish is overpriced AF, but just go for a walk and catch your own if you don't want to support the fishing industry.
@@zacharyseales3775 They’re not lying when they say diving and fishing is big here in NZ tho but the ecosystem is also big here in terms of sustaining and protecting it. You can fish all you want but don’t take more then you need to.
I really appreciate how they focus on Maori cuisine, instead of any european deviation. It is incredibly respectful of them to do so.
It's not really a choice. European food is the same here as it is in... Y'know... Europe? What's Gordon gonna do? Make an episode about steak pies and sausage rolls?
@@flakes1972 Well yeah he still absolutely could've. Point is they didn't ignore Maori cuisine so
@@mmymmy315 yea but their point is there's not really another way to go about it. What other cuisine would he base this on?

Growing up I spent 6 years in New Zealand. The food always seemed a tiny bit fresher/ richer and the water was almost always pure and fresh. You could drink straight from the river, even some of the lakes (though I wouldn't advise it).
At school camp in the south island we hiked for hours to find a natural mountain spring, and It honestly was life changing to drink that pure, naturally chilled mountain mineral water right from the spring, especially after a tough hike.
You can't drink the water here anymore 95-99% of freshwater is contaminated.
It isn't even advisable to swim in most rivers anymore. I'm only 33 and I still have childhood and teen memories of swimming in rivers/lakes but we can't now (for the most part, there are exception)
My son has never swam in fresh water and he's about to turn 12.
Ocean is mostly sweet but there's something special about fresh water swimming that the beach doesn't do justice.
@@-Gax- Damn, where about you located man? Up here in the far north everything for the most part is still clean and safe.
@@-Gax- yeah kuzzy same here, I'm only 24 and me and my siblings can't swim in the spots we use too
Yes any rivers in the Canterbury region are no go for swimming dew to intensive dairy farming, nitrogen run of and effluent from the cows.many rivers now have Didimo as well.the rivers on the west coast are still mint and in the Nelson area.most of the lakes are fine to swim in,wakatipu, tekapo, and all the hydro lakes are fine to swim in and are drinkable.
@@martymcwhirter9864 Yup, cant grab a crate or two and go to the gorge with the boys anymore. I get that capitalism is about growth but our dairy farmers have straight ruined our waterways in south canterbury. A shame really.
how gorgeous is new zealand
@Faynee00 Swiss & Norway too

I love how hard gordon tries to pronounce the māori names it makes my day
lol... his pronunciation wasn't that bad. I've heard clueless Kiwi's fumble Maori names worse. He did a good job! i love it.
@@scruffygaming627i know that's why I said it made my day with how hard he tries
It's always great to see this side of Gordon. Although nothing beats watching him have a go at others, but seeing Gordan's humble side is refreshing. Top tier legend
“It’s a tree” says Gordon. The eel “tickling” episode! This series is highly underrated. Seriously this is so awesome, Gordon after eels is the best adventure yet!
indeed, i love the series so much, the man is living his best life
Shut up Kimberly.

Yeah kuz, seeing Gordon Ramsay try his hardest in catching that tuna reminded me of my first time catching one as a kid
As a New Zealander born and bred in Southland, Stewart Island was just down the road... over across the very unpredictable sea a bit. On my last trip to the island, maybe 1972, we just picked a couple of paua off the rocks for lunch, without getting our feet wet. They were everywhere. The only diving was being done for magnificent crayfish/lobsters.
Gotta love being a Kiwi and calling this beautiful place home ❤
Chef Ramsey is the man. He’s figured out and invented multiple business models. Respect
Watching Gordon embrace new cultures is always amazing to watch
That's a very narrowminded and racist comment
@Everclear racist
@Everclear It is if youre talking about the Hongi he did with the eel dude. As he explained it is a traditional Māori greeting. Maybe think before you comment on things to save yourself from being called a racist lol

I love seeing these out of the normal kitchen elements with Gordon.
A Kiwi? Like bloody oath lol. By the way being recognised as brother is one of the highest degrees of honour given to a person. Congratulations Gordon you are now family amongst us Southern Pacific Ocean folks.

Gordon, I didn't know you'd been here, to the end of the world! I'm glad you like the kai and had a go at getting some for yourself. Your respect for our traditions, like taking only what you need, is appreciated. If no-one is greedy there's enough kai for everyone.

New Zealand is so beautiful
Yup
'It's all about the puku aye' I loved watching this and feel incredibly proud to be kiwi.
It's awesome to see my beautiful home showcased like this I love living in NZ really proud kiwi here 😁
Good ol fluffy, he's a top notch bloke, humble as. Got to meet him when I flew in some material for him.
As a kiwi, I am immensely proud of my country and its natural food. ALL of our food is green grown. We don't have any cage grown cattle, sheep or etc. And all our sea food is unique and absolutely delicious.
Well our chicken and eggs are factory farmed
Our seafood is not unique, please avail yourself of a dictionary 👍
You can be proud, without telling lies 😂
Nikkolas Diehl As a indigenous Maori here in Aotearoa, what you just mentioned is the ruination of this country. Nothing to be proud about.

See… this is what I call entertainment. Fascinating and interesting to watch. Love this guy…. Just love em!

The eel catching part is so nostalgic. I remember going down to the creek with a bunch of other kids when i was younger and we would chuck the eels in buckets and then run away screaming when they wriggled out
I remember doing that as well, I still do it sometimes

I have always wanted to go to New Zealand! Absolutely beautiful and wild!!
Most the wild has been killed nz used to be birds heaven 100s years ago. James Cook says he heard birds from miles away from land. but not no more coz humans and today its mostly 1080 that kills the wildlife

Eels can breath on land for quite a while but I agree,
Always hated fishing shows that show off the fish while it's still alive and suffocating.
Ells travell overland ,from creek to creek if they dry up
