You're tipping for the good service you moron. You really think someone instead of making say 3$/hr + tips is suddenly going to give the same/better service if they are making say 15$/hr + no tip? You're delusional. People are lazy and if they don't have to work harder why would they. Tipping encourages servers to give good service.
That being said tipping culture has gotten out of control in general. I shouldn't be badgered to tip someone for taking my order at the cashier.

Who's getting taxed more? You're paying the same either way. If anything the server would be paying less taxes if you're tipping in cash. Cause most servers under report their tips when they're in cash. Cause you're required by law to report your tips "accurately".
I don't care either way if a tipping culture exists or not. It doesn't matter to me. I was a server at a restaurant for 4 years in college. I believe tipping is a good thing under the current structure. But if it were to go away companies would just increase prices and people would be paying the same if not more.
Also just gonna say this. A lot of servers that work for tips make a LOT of money. I know sometimes I was pulling in 3-4x the minimum wage and some were doing even more most nights depending on traffic. I know one holiday I made around 300 in an 8 hour shift. Though the usual was typically around 12-15/he and this was a decade ago.

@@achxd it's making sure your order is right, making sure your drinks are filled, making sure things are kept clean. All while they're probably doing the same thing for 4-5 other tables at the same time. When you go out to eat at a sit down restaurant, it is a luxury. You should have the expectation of paying a little more regardless of whether you're asked to tip or not.
If you haven't worked in restaurant work, particularly as a server, your opinion means very little if anything. Let me know when mommy stops giving you an allowance and you get a job.
