Lovebites (stylized as LOVEBITES) is a Japanese power metal band, formed in 2016 by former Destrose members Miho and Haruna. Its lineup currently consists of Haruna on drums, Midori and Miyako on guitar, Asami on vocals, and Fami on bass. After signing to Victor Entertainment, the group released both their debut EP and their first album in 2017, The Lovebites EP and Awakening from Abyss, before performing their first overseas concerts at the end of the year. With another EP and album released in 2018, Battle Against Damnation and Clockwork Immortality, Lovebites quickly garnered international attention and won that year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best New Band. Following the releases of Electric Pentagram (2020) and Glory, Glory, to the World (2021), bassist Miho left the band in August 2021. After a year-long hiatus, Lovebites recruited Fami on bass and released Judgement Day, their fourth album, in February 2023. It is their highest-charting record to date, reaching number 5 on both the Oricon and Billboard Japan charts.

The reasons are:
- It have the piano piece that inspired this song as intro.

The mold was broken with Miyako (guitarist / piano). She's a different breed entirely, you'll see. Yes, they are heavily influenced by 80s metal. You mentioned Slayer, you should check out Break The wall live 2020...epic thrash with unique solos. THAT drumner, is 4' 9" Haruna who is a F beast on that kit. Love that woman; love all of them! 🤘

Here some information about them:
The band was formed in 2016 by original bassist Miho and drummer Haruna. Their first EP and album came out in 2017. So far LOVEBITES have released 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of DVD/Blu-ray live recordings.
Back in 2018/2019 LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe, including appearances at the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. In 2018 they also won the Metal Hammer UK Golden Gods Award for best new band.
Then came covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After a break LOVEBITES came back with new bassist Fami and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. A new album with the same title came out in February 2023.
This year in June LOVEBITES‘ first world tour starts in Europe. In September they will play their biggest headline show ever in Tokyo. After that LOVEBITES will have their US debut …

She has an amazing vocal range and vibrato, writes most of the lyrics, also did parts of the song writing for their latest 2 albums, she is a former ballerina and RnB/soul singer
Miyako on guitars, piano, keyboards (the golden touch):
She is the musical brain of the band, main composer and arranger, a soulful but also shreddy guitar player and concert level pianist, furthermore she is a gear nerd
Midori on guitars (crazy shredder):
Incredibly fast and technical guitar player, has contributed to songwriting for a few of their songs, also she is a body fitness athlete
Haruna on drums (little big engine):
Plays very fast pace over long distances, she is very efficient and her stamina is admirable, the cymbal work is outstanding, she also wrote one of their songs including lyrics, creates handmade miniature fake food
Fami on bass since 2022 (shining fingers):
Absolute bass prodigy with outstanding technique, she speaks faster than sonic speed as she plays and smiles non-stop
Miho on bass until 2021 (natural born headbanger):
We will never forget her, she is a great bass player, she wrote several of the songs for the band’s albums 1-3

Their style overall (not this song) can be described as a hybrid from Iron Maiden, Slayer, Metallica, Helloween and some others and also classical music. But with their own unique and more modern twist on it. Their dual leads are just epic and go over minutes in many other of their songs …

LOVEBITES. They are listened not only by metalheads. Ladies came out of their metal genre and have wider spectrum of fans.
They play Eclectic Metal. It means they blend as the first band in history all kind of metal mainly power and thrash with NWOBHM,
heavy metal, symphonic metal, speed metal,hair metal, hard rock, rock, rock'n'roll, jazz, progressive pieces, funk and even punk. They mix all with classical music using operatic, R&B, soul and gospel skills of vocalist and grand piano and Spanish guitar skills playing. Sometimes they use typical Japanese melodic lines which are included in ENKAs_ melancholy ballads singing by Japanese women. Only their can do it. Obviously they draw a lot from British, German and American metal. All this makes their style unique.

A little fact about Haruna, the drummer, you might like, she is the shortest member of the band at 1.45 meters (about 4 foot 9 inches in old money) None of these ladies are tall, Miyako, the black haired guitarist and Pianist and Fami the Bass player are tallest at about 1.6 meters (5 foot 2 inches) Miyako is a classically trained pianist. There are versions of Swan Song that have a Chopin piano introduction.
Asami the vocalist has training from a young age as a Ballet Dancer. Before Lovebites she was a R&B singer. The Blonde 'Amazon Warrior' guitarist is Midori. As well as being a great musician she is a body builder and has scored very high in competitions in Japan.
This is one of the best bands I have heard in 55+ years of listening to rock/metal.
She is an absolute beast on the drums and does it so calmly

The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP".
On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 'BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER.
On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full.

Rest assured that any recommendation for a reaction will be to this standard with zero exceptions. 56 studio recordings, all but 3 or 4 have been played live and for those that haven’t, blame Covid. At 64 years of age I will tell you with total conviction that this is the best band my eyes and ears have ever experienced. And I include *EVERY* modern recording artist in that statement which, before replying, takes into account every single aspect of the band, not just the music and how outstandingly it’s played, every single time.
I'm 79 and grew up with rock and roll since the mid 1950s and saw all the great bands of the 1960s and 1970s. I feel exactly the same way about Lovebites. I can't wait to see them up close and personal at the 350 capacity New Cross Inn next month.

I really like when music knowledgeable people react to Lovebites because you truly appreciate this band. Yes, these Japanese women are extremely talented, skillful and proficient versatile musicians. Their live performances are outstanding. They have influences from the great metal bands of the past but they have been developing their own and unique style. Some people say that they breaking the walls of stereotypes in the metal scene. This song is not their typical sound but it’s one example of their versatility. Asami was a R&B, soul and jazz singer before she joined the band and also attended ballet classes; her vocals are just clean, no opera training. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just seven years. Miyako (black hair guitarist) is also a concert level classical pianist. If you want heavy, I recommend “Judgement day”, “The hammer of wrath”, “Set the world on fire”, “Break the wall”, “Shadowmaker”, “Thunder vengeance”, “Above the Black Sea”, “Winds of Transylvania”. Recommend you go back and do a better version of this.- Swan Song Chopin Intro live with lyrics 2020.
Yeah, that would really pay off. This version here is already impressive in terms of the technical skills of LOVEBITES, but the Chopin intro _completes_ this song. I therefore never understood, why someone obviously seperated the Chopin intro from the rest of this song technically, in the course of the media production.
Wait until you hear their thrashier tracks. I've been listening to metal for 5 decades - Slayer, Priest, Maiden, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax, etc. and all are awesome, but sometimes they miss with a track or even an album. I have some favorites with Lovebites, but they just don't miss overall - they don't have any songs I would not listen to over & over. They are just incredible. If they played in the 80's/90's they would likley be considered 1 of the top 3-4 metal bands of all time (I believe they are the best). Lovebites could cover anything those bands put out, but I would love to see them try to cover a Lovebites track. SMH. Their 2 guitarists are elite level.

To understand the contents of SWAN SONG, a little historical knowledge is necessary.
In 1831, when Poland was under the effective rule of Imperial Russia, the November Revolution, an insurrectionary movement started by some generals and the people, failed due to the direct intervention of Russian troops, and the Polish dynasty fell.
Chopin was informed of this during a performance tour. He had lost his homeland. Around the time the Russians began their invasion of Warsaw, Chopin's representatives presented "Etude Op.10 No.12" in Paris. Franz Liszt, a friend of Chopin, named this exercise "Revolutionary Etude.
Miyako (guitar/keyboards) composed "SWAN SONG" from this "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony.
Asami (vocals), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics based on the historical background of "Etude de la Revolution," adding images of Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake.
SWAN SONG" is a requiem dedicated to the nameless warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland.

Influences are band like Iron Maiden, Helloween.
Thrash metal, power metal, speed metal, a bit of getting close to symphonic metal (possibly, not perfect on my sub genre knowledge), a few just kinda fun party metal songs, the very occasional 80s synth cheese, ballad, prog.
You are not the first to feel the singer, Asami, has a similar singing style to Bruce Dickinson. Believe she is a trained R&B singer and ballet dancer.
Miyako, the guitarist who also played the piano, can absolutely shred on both.
The other guitarist Midori can also shred on guitar like nothing else.
You already took note of Haruna on drums, under 5 foot metronome.
And the bassist, Fami, can play like nothing else as well, slapping, popping, finger style etc. She replaced Miho, the original bassist and one of the founders, along with Haruna the drummer. When you do see Miho you will notice she taps the bass sometimes,
Almost always go for lives, they are incredible live. There MV are great and worth checking out, but the lives take the win there.
They are the first time I have ever had a favourite band, at age 38. Simply based on the number of songs I have added to my "best songs" play list. No other band gets even close for me by that metric.

Nice Reaction. Already a lot of comments. I'll try to add something new . . *Haruna* (4'9" drummer) _can't_ hit the bell on her ride. Her style is all about double kicks and cymbals. The 'bell' on her Ride is covered by a 8" Sabian Ice Bell. She loves the bell sound, but she plays so fast that it's easy to miss. She solved that by putting the Ice Bell on top of her Ride - and now it is impossible to miss the 'bell' sound. Every single member of this band plays with flawless technique . . even *Asami* (vocals). Btw - Asami *_was_* classically trained - in Ballet. After being told that she was too short to be a ballerina (4'10") she became a pop/R&B singer, and only learned to 'belt' when she did her audition for Lovebites. Later she decided to try singing in Operatic style.(Nailed it)

Unfortunately, the mix on this recording didn't pick up her piano very well. There is a better version from an earlier concert where she begins the song with Chopin's Revolutionary Etude that will really blow your mind.

You are spot on regarding some of their influences, especially Maiden. (see below for more on influences). They may be the most talented metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later.
They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD:

Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Great listen, JD! I am a fan of many genres of music, but not much in the metal realm since the mid 80's. That all changed when I found LOVEBITES last year! They are an obsession now, and I have my ticket for their first US concert in Atlanta this September. I must also credit Babymetal and Band-Maid, (I love both), as they were the first I discovered of the Asian female rock/metal acts. I have since see them both in concert, along with Hanabie and Otoboke Beaver. These lady-led groups across Asia dominate my listening interests now. So much talent, style, and class.

Lovebites - taking "old school" metal to the next level since 2016. I don't see any other metal band playing the same range of different "old school" metal subgenres (Doom Metal is still missing, though) as Lovebites do, and especially not on their level! Overall. Live versions from concerts from 2020 and 2021 is better postmixed. But there is the old bassplayer Miho. 2021 concerts is under pandemic rules so clapping hands was only allowed. Song I prefer as MV is When Destinies Align, Winds of Transylvania, Glory to the world ( it is a song for the Wolfpack during the pandemic), Judgement Day and Shadowmaker. Not that the live versions are bad, they are amazing but the MV makes that little extra umpf.
Why Lovebites, their mgmt. / engineers didn't include the Chopin intro and have the piano and guitar mix at proper levels is puzzling! (Maybe Miyako made a slight mistake as she did in the outro. Does anyone have footage of this concert with the Swan intro? - probably not, being Japan rules). In any case, what an awesome song and performance with Fami! Ignacio, (got it?) you’re going to hear all the greats within this band but augmented, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Motörhead , you name it, this beautiful ladies honor them all, plus and a BIG plus, the add their own uniqueness to the mix. LOVEBITES is a wonderful band. And abput the Castlevania vibe, I agree with ypu 100% theres the most obvious one "Winds Of Transylvania" song but check out "Lost In The Garden" ohhhhhh big Castlevania moment in the solos. It's a pity that you chose the version of 'Swan Song' without the 'Etude' by Frederic Chopin. You could see Miyako (brunette / guitar, piano, keyboards) playing F. Chopin's 'Etude Op.10, No.12' on the piano before the 'Swan Song'. These two works (classical music of the 19th century and metal song of the 21st century) are thematically interconnected. That's why LOVEBITES perform them together at concerts.
You are mistaken. Asami (lead vocals) has no classical vocal training. Asami is a ballerina who trained in classical ballet. The plasticity of her movements, especially the movement of her hand, with which she depicts the flappings of the Swan’s wing, is all from classical ballet, to which she devoted 16 years (from 2 years old to 18 years old). Asami also studied dancing, for which, after graduating from school (at the age of 18), she went to the US and lived there for some time. Asami became a singer much later, after she stopped studying ballet and dancing.

Lovebites is the equivalent of Justin Jefferson - the best in their genre. You haven't even seen the two guitarists go all crazy on their solos yet. They have heavier songs than this.

You are spot on that Iron Maiden is an influence, and you are certainly not the first person to compare the singer (Asami) to Bruce Dickinson. In terms of musical skill, LOVEBITES are one of the most musiclaly talented metal bands on the planet. I'd comfortably put them in the top three, along with Dream Theater and Symphony-X. Every single one of these women is supremely talented in every way. 99% of their songs are in English, too. What Band-Maid is to rock, these ladies are to metal and prog in a way.

If you like Metallica and Slayer then you should react to Lovebites song titled Break the Wall
If you want to see Miyako's piano skills watch the version of Swan Song with Chopin intro. If you like Slayer, than watch 'Set the World on Fire' or 'Hammer of Wrath' as they are thrashier. They have other great songs -- my favorite is 'Frozen Serenade'.
