Lol Danny looked like he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar 😂💝
😂😂😂
Lol, he so did, hehe!
No one ever tells you the things that don’t have to be filled all the way. This is vital information for those just starting to preserve their harvests. Thank you so much, Wanda!!
Headspace on tomatoes is 1/2 inch from the top of the jar.
@shelly on the pineTreeHill. I would can the one that she left with extra head space, but I would leave it out and use it first.
That's why you should have The Ball book of canning or The USDA guide of canning. It gives you ALL the information you will need to can anything!
@@Jomama02 I have the book, thank you.
So funny, Danny couldn’t even get his words out about why he wad taking up YOUR space.
Perfect timing for my harvest, thank you! Also, it’s hysterical that Danny is in your canning kitchen space! 🤣 he didn’t know what to say lol! Thank you for posting!
My Mom made tomatoes just like that. When serving them, she would cream them. I thing she added milk to thicken them. As af kid, I loved them. They were so good and sweet. Yum
This is pretty much how I was taught to can tomatoes. So good in winter. Okra, tomato, onion, ham soup is a family favorite.
THANK YOU. I’m new at canning. Last year I wanted to can tomatoes like this, but could not find a recipe. I ended up canning them whole. I’m going to write this down and try it this year. I really appreciate your canning videos.
Invest in a ball blue book of canning! Best investment ever
Joy of Cooking has a ton of canning recipes too.
Hello Wanda from Ireland thank you for sharing all your information a wonderful teacher, i laugh so hard at Danny 😊. 🇮🇪🍀❤
That was funny seeing Mr Danny's facial expression when you said that's the reason you can't can in your new canning kitchen. He looked like the cat that ate the canary. Lolol
Btw... I love to slice tomatoes and add a tiny bit of salt in them to get those juice flowing so I can pour their juice on top of my beans and cornbread or most anything in eating. I love putting in stewed tomatoes on top too. Like you said before, it's a southern thang I guess.
It's the best!!
I forgot to say that I'm stewing tomatoes to can this week and making Salsa Verde also. I just finished up Salsa and Pasta Sauce.
Your video is in the perfect timing for me. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe and method for your stewed tomatoes.
When I process tomatoes, I core them, cut them in fourths and cook them till soft. I then run them through the purée attachment on my kitchenmaid mixer and usually simmer the purée till desired thickness before canning. That way my purée can be used for whatever I’m cooking, like spaghetti or chili. It’s fast and efficient!
I do it this way to. But I after cooking, I run them through my victorio food mill to remove skins and seeds. I don’t like the seeds in them
I ALWAYS take skin of when I use tomatoes no matter the follow up
Makes it a whole lot nicer to eat and avoid a lot of pesticides etc.
I always take out the seediest too , phytic acid in them, gone what’s left is the pure flesh
@@ikvangalen6101 the good stuff!!
Oh...beans, cornbread, and stewed tomatoes...add some steamed kale or collards and it's about as close to heaven as food can get. mmm...and thx for the tutorial. Have a lovely, blessed, peaceful, joyful day.
That look on Danny's face was priceless. Thanks for all the info. I canned some tomatoes years ago, but will use your information to try it again this year.
😂😂😂😂 I just got to the part about your canning kitchen! 😂😂😂😂 Oh my! I thought my husband was the only one who'd do stuff like that. Sitting here laughing, looking at the boat and tools currently taking up my entire dining room. I love that you're so real. Every video of yours that I've watched has been a blessing one way or another. 💖💕
We all need a tractor in our canning kitchen. It's just to funny. Lol
I think he forget it was your she shed
I love tomatoes, Wanda, for showing us your recipe for stewed tomatoes.
Thank you 😊 I started to 💦 water can last year and I find myself addicted to caning. I however am very concerned 😳 of doing something wrong you were very simple in your instructions and clear.😊🏡❤️🐶😺
Did 14 quarts of green beans last night, Salsa this morning!!
Stewed tomatoes with okra onions and yellow squash. Yum
I love your canning recipes Wanda. I made your refrigerator pickles last August and honestly they were still crunchy yesterday near a year later! I ate them out of half gallon jars all year. I'm sure they're not supposed to keep for that long but they did in the vinegar, sugar spices juice. Then I put some beets in that same juice after the pickles were gone. Tasted great. Lasts a long time. 😊
Lol Danny looked speechless
I had never eaten Stewed Tomatoes like you made them, until I moved to Ohio in 1972. I love them.😋
My Grandma and Mom always made Sweet Stewed Tomatoes. They added sugar, butter and torn up slices of bread. They also omitted the Bread and served the Stewed Tomatoes on biscuits. I do love these. Of course they didn't can these, they used their plain canned Tomatoes for the recipe. 😋😋
I love Okra, Corn, and tomatoes. I did can these.😋😋 Another is Tomatoes and Zucchini with your favorite pasta sauce seasoning when canning. I use to buy these canned in the grocery store in Atlanta. So I took that idea and canned my own here in Ohio 😋
Have a blessed evening, stay safe and healthy. 🙏🥰👍👌🙏✝️🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏
These look so good Miss Wanda. I would like this over rice or make a tomato gravy with fried white meat and biscuits. Yum
My garden isn't big enough to can frequently, so I throw tomatoes in the freezer. When I pull the bag out and let the tomatoes thaw, they lose a lot of their water so I don't have to boil them down for so long, and the tomato water is delicious. I look forward to it every year.
They're also a lot easier to peel!
I've fallen in love with tomatoes and okra over rice❤️❤️❤️
I've canned plain tomatoes but never made stewed tomatoes before. That will change now! Thank you Wanda for such a great tutorial.
Hi Wanda, Mark and I are learning so much from you and Danny! We cant thank you enough for these videos.. Love Dawn +
Thank you Wanda for all the great tips. I put in quite a few plants this year so looking forward to canning for sauce and stewing, been trying to get jars bought for just this task. 👌
Wanda, those are beautiful!!! This is my second year to try canning and I am so thankful that you took the time to show us and explain how and why you do what you do. I truly appreciate it!!
Wanda, you are a great teacher, thank you.
Working on my tomatoes tomorrow. Perfect timing on the video.
Love canning tomatoes. Will add a little lemon juice.. thanks.
Thank you Wanda! Those jars are beautiful 🤩 🥰🍅
Bless your heart ❤️ work, work, work! But so worth it all💕. Thank you so much for sharing 💕. Love watching you 🥰
Miss Wanda, thank you for this video ,very relaxing and informative.
God bless you and Danny🙏🏻
Absolutely beautiful, and so many good tips! Thank you
We’ll leave it pretty juicy, because we cook it down later when we use it.
Thank You, Wanda, for such a Most Informative video!! May Our Most High Bless You and Danny and your Family always!!
Thank you Wanda! Good information!
We LOVE stewed tomatoes - We do it open kettle with lemon juice, salt, pepper and a bit of sugar (if needed). We can it in jars and opening up a jar on a hot summer day with a salmon sandwich, yum!!
Such a lovely video Wanda. You are such a good teacher. I do mine the same, some with peppers, onions, and garlic, some just onions and some plain. I just found an easy hack for my tomato juice that I never thought of before. Add my Amish Paste Tomatoes to my juicer, it separates my seeds and skins making it so much easier. I never thought of that before.
They are very pretty! I hope we get enough tomatoes to do the same!❤️😘🙏🏻
Perfect timing! I am ready to try tomatoes!
love this
Look wonderful!
💡 Good morning Wanda I enjoyed watching the video on canning stewed tomatoes 👌
thank you this was soo helpful for me canning today!
Thanks, Wanda. I have gone to a stainless canner also. God Bless, stay safe.
They look good!
Thanks for sharing! Great way to use tomatoes! Blessings
Thank you Wanda , I truly enjoyed watching you make tomatoes/ warm bath ..God bless you 🙏🏻🇱🇷🇨🇱
Thank you for great information!
Thank you!
Another great video!! 🍅🍅🍅
Help Wanda, excellent tutorial video!
Love watching your videos....but Danny's grin when you first went out to the "canning GARAGE" was so cute. Man loves his tractor!!!!
Will look for the video on saving seeds. 👍
Check out the one on Deep South saving tomato seeds.
Beautiful color❤️❤️❤️
Nice!
Those look delicious!!! 🍅 yummy!
Thanks
Lots seeds...Love when you're canning
I need to can some
Nice, I've only water bath canned. Thank you for the video.
I do the same but i cook till chunky and add onions and hatch peppers to make rotel..
Wanda, you must be exhausted. But it's very satisfying to see all your work on the shelf. Your tomatoes look beautiful. Bummer you can't use your canning kitchen! But it is a gorgeous tractor!
I did use the kitchen yesterday to water bath my peaches. Danny had to MOVE over.
Man got to do what a man got to do
Thank you for showing us this video. I remember canning tomatoes along time ago and I had my lids in hot water and my jars in a warm oven do I still need to do that?
You can do that if you want.
Thank you Wanda! I'm thinking about fall crop of tomatoes. Have you ever had any luck with that? Also I'm thinking about dehydrating some of my figs. Noticed you had a video on that. Wondering how they turned out and if you would do it again? I'm thinking you could use them for baking? Again, thanks for the tomato processing video.
The figs were hard. I dehydrated them until they were totally dry. But they rehydrated good and I made fig newtons from them. But I have a freeze dryer now and I love them from the freeze dryer. Just trying to figure out storage in our humid conditions.
Since I’m on a low sodium diet, We don’t add salt. Also, since we have diverticulosis, we cut the tops and bad spots out, par boil snd then run them through an attachment on my meat grinder that removes the seeds and skins. Sometimes, we just manually remove skins after par boiling and leave the seeds. They don’t bother us so much.
T. Y. Nice work.
Hey Wanda! Great video! Are y'all gonna sell Amish Paste tomato seed on Etsy? If not, where do you get yours? Thanks!
Soon
Danny!!!😄😄😄
some canning videos say that you have to pressure can them if you put onions and peppers in the tomatoes, is it safe to just water bath them? I have never put anything in them and I water bath them, but was considering onions and peppers, now I am confused to water bath or pressure can???
What company do you get you bulk lids from. I’m new to this and only know about Ball.
I ordered a few months ago from Amazon. They don't have them listed now. Sorry. But you might find some company that has them.
❤️
👍
Love cornbread crumbled in with my pinto beans
Ever tried to make ketchup or BBQ sauce with all those tomatoes? Yum!
Yes we did that a few times. But we don't use either that much.
Danny has a new workshop? 🤣
Temporarily
I went and bought my. 6 bottles of lemon juice , 😆, lol
If adding peppers and onions do you cook them with tomatoes or just add raw?
I would cook the peppers and onions before adding the tomatoes. But I do can a salsa that has the peppers and onions already in it.
Can you double stack the pints in water bathing?
Not sure. I always process single layer
He should have put the tractor on the other side and all you had to do is move car LOL Thank you !!!
Yeah thought of that after he decided it would take more than 2 days. Lol
Thank you for letting me know that I don’t have to water bath on high, since the water boils over & ends up on the stove everywhere 😳😂
Was there a ‘how to’ video on making salsa?
Yes on Deep South
Quite disappointing. I could not find a link to that book you used and canning tomatoes. Care to share that with us?
Do you peel the tomatoes by putting them in boiling water, then ice?
No i don't like that way. I just peel
So it's okay to use a variety of tomatoes when canning? That was what I was trying to find out. I'm scared to death of doing tomatoes because of Botulism so I have done any in over 35 years but I'm going to try it out again.
I mix the tomato varieties for the stewed tomatoes. You can keep them separate if you want.
@@CrazyDazes thank you!
Lol, Danny needs more space 😂
I followed this and realized I didn't debubble, but don't recall you doing it either, is it necessary for these? Are they safe to eat?
Yes, they should be fine. I bump the jars to settle the content. Debubble is when you bring air to the top. Now they have a stick to stir the content.
Can you use citric acid in place of lemon juice
yes
Does it matter what type of stove you have? Ceramic, gas, element?
I am finding ask arrives have an issue. New is not better with stoves
How do you save tomato seeds. From your table it looks like it might be a process???
Check out Deep South Homestead video on saving tomato seeds
Where do you get the sleeves of lids
I was a little confused about what she meant by plain lids also. Did she mean that they were just not Ball lids?
@@lindamckeown2830 I think they are an unbranded lid
Video tomorrow showing the difference
I bought the sleeve of lids on Amazon
Can you do this with fresh tomatoes (uncooked)? Peeled
That is what i used
I thought you cooked these tomatoes, can you can tomatoes raw?
Hello 👋💚💜❤️👍
Hi Wanda! How or where do you store the tomatoes while your gathering up enough to prepare a batch? Thanks!
In the floor on cardboatd or tarp. If you only have a few, you can freeze them
Thank you!!
What's the difference between stewed tomatoes and just canned tomatoes?
Most canned tomatoes are whole tomatoes or chunks of tomatoes. I cooked these down to a near puree.
Do best way to deseed tomatoes and take the skin off
IF SO WOULD YOU LEAVE THE LOD OFF?
Yes to allow steam to evaporate
