  • As an individual living in Japan for her whole life, she has experienced both Japanese-style education and International school-style education and wonders how certain education styles can impact a person’s personality. While Japan is a nation famous for its advanced industrialization and unique culture, from her experience she believes that it lacks gender equality and independent individuals. Lisa explores how those traits are affected by Japanese education, breaking it up into three categories: Independence, Instruction of English Education, and Internationality. She is passionate about changing education not only in Japan but worldwide, and through this Ted Talk, she wishes to take a further step toward achieving her goal. Lisa Hawes, a junior at Canadian Academy, dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher at an international school in the future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
