I live on Vancouver Island and had never seen the northern lights, but I did last night and it was amazing. What a truly special surprise and it felt like a gift ♥️
7:50pm...I just heard Ben Davidson from SuspiciousObservers channel say that, just a few minutes ago, an X 5-point-somethin' flair erupted. That is the strongest one yet, and that makes 7 eruptions (the first 3 have already hit).
Ben's legit. Been subbed there around 12 years and I'm a moderator there. 12 X flares. 7 Earth directed CMEs and counting. The last G5 put Sweden's power grid in the dirt in '03. This one is way more powerful and given the pole migration? If this storm doesn't wreak havoc...the future certainly holds one that shall. ✌️
And... these CMEs have a predominantly negative magnetic polarity, which means a significant coupling with the earth's positive magnetic charge (think magnets, opposite North/South attraction) is highly likely. That means the probability of induced currents of significant voltage and amplitude may occur on the electrical grid and pipeline systems (long conductors). Potential for system issues and damage is quite high.
Living in BC I have seen the northern lights many times. The most spectactular was in September around 2004 as my old memory says. It was at Kluchesi Lake in Northern BC ( near Fort Nelson ) we were on our anual moose and elk hunt. I awoke around 2. am for a pee, and there was the most spectacular northern lights display i have even seen. Swirlling purple and blue spirals , green sheets moving like curtains being moved in ripples. Now many say you don't hear them but in the dead still cold northen sky I could hear them crackling .I tell you it is a sight. Now in the states you may not hear them because of ambient noise but somewhere dead quiet you will hear them crackle. I wish you all to see some thing wonderfull tonight . Get out there be quiet and watch , the show is worth it as you may never see it again.
You probably should know more on the topic of spaceweather. There's a college textbook The Weathermans Guide to the Sun, third edition. Things they didn't teach you in school! Around 800 peer reviewed and published papers are referenced therein. Good luck getting a NSF grant tho. Most of the papers are not by US scientists. There is much more to the connections and interactions between our Star and our planet and atmosphere than light and warmth. Those forces are the reason you sometimes must use the phrase... "fantasy land ". BTW the last G5 solar storm was in '03 and certainly didn't involve 12 X class solar flares as this does! "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." But the lights are pretty...😁
@@PacificNorthwestWeather Forgive me. I was referring to the inability of weather models to consistently and accurately forecast weather patterns beyond a few days. This is due either from missing forces and influences? Or their chaotic nature being impossible to predict behavior. One cannot predict when a rope suspending a piano might break but after it does, it's easy to predict the specific outcome. Questioning the consensus of science isn't easy, even if one has the evidence. To categorically state spaceweather cannot influence atmospheric phenomenon without being familiar with our global electric circuit or the function of the magnetosphere, Van Allen Belts and ionospheric shells is typical of scientists who support consensus opinions. The sun's outputs demonstrably influence both atmospheric and geophysical behaviors both in real time with electromagnetic outputs such as X-ray and UV, as well as charged particle influx. I understand that consensus science recognizes the presence of electric fields and current flows in space, our atmosphere and pole to pole through telluric currents. Consensus science asserts that although these are real and present? They do not have significant or consequential effects. ✌️
Why not tell the fune people what they are seeing, and why? Please explain to them why this us happening now. Please mention Earth's weakening magnetic field 🙏 😢 😀
SUPERB summary for us Northwest residents. Thank you!
Oh my Goodness!!! IT IS BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! ♥️💜♥️
Thanks Michael.
You sure do go beyond the call of duty 😊
Your work is appreciated

Thank you so much for putting in the extra effort.
This is so exciting! I've never seen them in real life so this will be a treat! Thanks Michael!

there are a number of Aurora live streams up now..N. Dakota, Maine, Canada... hoping for clear skys.. waiting for it to get dark..do a CZcams search
Watched last night... just amazing...so beautiful ❤️
First time to see... usually cloudy
Thank you ❤ 😊

Oct/Nov 2003❤
44.08 lat here. Hoping to see anything!!
Thanks for the info. I will definitly out there watching!
Thank you Michael ! 😊
Always said you should add space weather to the channel, Boss! ❤❤❤
Dude I hope we see it
Heading out to Vantage to hopefully catch a glimpse!
Anyone down to do a aurora meetup/roadtrip? Any recommendations for best viewing locations?
Big show last night here in Everson
Willamette valley, out in the country. Got a great view
Thank you!
So exciting! Several solar maxims and minimums have passed during my science teaching tenure. This is a sweet farewell as I retire!
We have had an amazing light show in Clallam Bay tonight! ❤
Thx if it is hard to see, think of star gazing and look a little off to the side of where you are trying to see. I hope I hope lights are on ...
Thanks for the update! Anxiously waiting under a cloudless sky on the Long Beach Peninsula!
I am so stoked.
Unfortunately for me in Skagway, it’s overcast. I wish I were much further inland. Enjoy!,
Thanks for doing this!
Fascinating!
good luck seattlites!
Can you believe we have clear skies?? We have a chance! lol
Good luck with no kill-shot? Or good luck seeing it?
Well, I live just south of Tacoma, and I didn't see a thing. Hmph!
Will I be able to see the arora in south east Missouri???
Yes I know people in the SE of the United States, they say them. Check around 11pm it will be around 12 for me Central Wa.
❤ I think that I'll enjoy this...from my hammock
I'm hearing of power outages in Portland

I may learn at some point, but Fantasy land in meteorology isn't because of space weather.

Went out at 2am for about ten minutes last night saw nothing
Midnite, Willamette Valley.
Nuttin.
I got to go to sleep 😴!
You shoulda got out into the country. Also in Wil Valley, it was fantastic
THKS
My friends in Arkansas posted awesome pictures!
Maybe we will get lucky and the lights WILL GO OUT to night. LOL
That special weather statement is interesting.... Hopefully they don't know something we don't.
Of course Az . We have CLOUDS😢
local weatherman says to use cell phone in night mode to take a picture, to see what the naked eye can't. Here in 99338 we are looking to the SE.
6 x class solar flares are to hit earth.
👍💚
Do we have to look north or will it be the entire sky?
You'll know if it was the whole sky, I'd look North I live in Central WA. And I've seen it faintly years ago to the North.
❤
🍻
👍
i dont see any northern lights im in southern ontario...
I know someone in Ohio who saw them it will be around 12 am for the PNW
@@R3al3yesRealizeRealLies i saw some lights but all white no colours took a picture and it had green in it but i could not see the green..
I see nothing in Ocean Park. Yet.
👀👍🫠🖖
The ending of the movie 'KNOWING'.
Just sayin.
Bye.

This is a weather channel guys, I did it to get the word out that it was occurring , and there would be no clouds in the region
