Well the one dislike does not appreciate the talent shown here on this song..This person, Kaumkaiwa, is one of the best interpreters in Hawai'i. If someone does not like it, change the channel !
Only the composer can appreciate the mele to its fullest, for they are the composer, we as hula people and musicians can interpret it to how the song relates to us today and enjoy its kaona to the level that we see it with respect to that composer. The author is the only one that can grasp its full mana'o, all chants evolve, all songs evolve with the understanding that we do our best to excecute it wholefully and interpret it with finesse. Stop breaking other peoples heiau down, so ho'okano.
I think the most irritating thing about all the negative post is that get a few kanka in our community that think they are the spokespeople for our kupuna. You see this youngster is the next generation to hold true to our kupuna and so people like this in our community deserves a little more credit. With out families like these, and his grandmother who fought the community for native education in her hay day in the school system, your kids wouldnt have the indigenous curriculum available.
Nahenahe maoli nō kēlā mele! Mahalo a nui loa.
