  • My How To video of my process of replacing / installing a new water pump to my 06 BMW F650GS Dakar motorcycle.
    I was not experincing any leak problems which are common with the F650GS but I didnt fully know the history of this pump and the bike was now at 30000 miles / 48000 km's. I am preping my bike for a long UK to Mongolia and back trip and though it wise to pre do this.
    At the same time I installed new clutch friction plates and installed a flexable oil return pipe. These videos are coming soon, stay tuned.

    Just for anyone to know, I'm using this video to fix a Voge 650DS which have the same motor, so the parts and instructions are compatible (the oil filter is the same too).
    Thanks Again

    @PhilJC - Amazing! Thank you. Any idea why gear would not shift to #1? It shifts to 2, 3, 4, 5 no problem. I'm told it is something to do with the "torsion spring". Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi, great video on the water pump. How do you like the header wrap? Have any problems with it?

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi and thanks. I like the wrap, no problems yet but I havent removed it yet to see what is happening underneath. I installed it to kill some of the noise, which I dont think it has much and also to keep some of the heat away from engine which im sure it has.

    hi Phil, bulb are you using in the headlinght? did you install any lens or something like that?

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Andrei, I just replaced the OEM style with a LED bulb witht the correct fitting. No lens changes. Not sure if i recommend this as even though the buld is brighter and a better colour, the spread of the light is not great and I dont think this swap is legal in the UK anymore / an MOT failure.

    Is it possible to change the screen showing from Miles & Gallons to Kms and litres

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před 3 lety +1

      I dont know but it is something I would like to do for my world travels. I cant see why you could just swap the whole of the dash unit for one that reads in Metric. Just document the change for when it comes to selling the bike to keep it legal.

    How many kilometers did you change the water pump and clutch?

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před 2 lety +1

      At about 40,000km miles, but I did the replacements in prep for a long overland trip more than they were worn out.

    Did I fall asleep while you were changing the clutch plates?
    Interesting insight into the water pump issues. Have you heard of anyone fitting a stainless water pump shaft? Do some people route the flexible oil return hose behind the clutch housing? How did you get on in Mongolia?
    Thank you for sharing. Ride safe.

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před rokem +1

      There is another video for the clutch plate changing.
      I have not heard of stainless water pump shafts.
      yes i think there are afew different routes to take the oil return hose, all work well.
      I never got to Mongolia, or anywhere infact. I was 2 months away from leaving when the pandemic shut down the world and when that calmed down Russia started a war!! Ive not even tried to get a russian visa to pass through to Mongolia yet.

      @@PhilJC Cool. Thank you. A lot of people have had their plans wrecked by the fearporn pandemic. But to be fair, the war in the Donbas region was started by Ukraine forces in 2014 - in collusion with the CIA and NATO.

    Can you tell me which phone holder are you using? thanks

    • @PhilJC
      @PhilJC  Před 2 lety

      Hi, The actual holder is a large RAM mount phone holder, and the long arm and clamps are scuba diving camera arms and clamps which are cheaper, lighter and easier to position tham RAM Mount parts. Think i got them off of ebay or amazon.
      Hope this helps.

      @@FredOliff You can start by just removing and checking the pump housing but if its the seals that have gone I am afraid a fair bit of it needs doing to replace the seals and pump.
