To have a quiet pc completely over compensate the cooling and airflow for your case (big fans that spin slowly), the power limit for your pc (600watt power supply for a 300 watt pc) and you may want to over compensate your gpu and cpu for the games and resolution of your monitor so they are not taxed as much and run cooler (a 1080 ti is not going to need spinning fans when playing mine craft for example.)
@@ermad9339 you just don't get it. You can make pc quite in so many ways than just buy now stuff, anyone one can just do video about buying new stuff, sound Dearing material, resistors, 5v instead of 12v. This is just too of the iceberg but I don't think you will get it, sadly.
You forgot about power supply. I had loud PSU's for years and had no idea they were the issue. I'd avoid low end corsair and EVGA. I have a bequiet! at the moment and it's v quiet.
+crossoctopus Low end in general can be pretty loud. I has a GS800 for years and it was pretty crap. Since then, I've not really had any issues across all decent brands. Silent fan modes are of course the best!
Corsair include a " no fan" system as long as your system dont draw too much current. for instance AX1200i wont even turn on the fan on a simple system because it's oversized.
People should note that a software like used in this video may change the cpufan header settings. If you are using an AIO water cooler, which connects to the cpufan head, your cpufan "speed" should be set to max. Otherwise, your software will throttle power to your AIO based on cpu temp.
That's amazing - perseverance is key, but remember that as a new guy you have something that Linus, MKBHD etc can never really have - you're a highly relatable consumer :)
As someone who is forever in search of silent computing there are two mods I can recommend: The first is to isolate your hard drive from the rest of the case via suspension. I use an old hard drive cage that was kindly given to me from my local computer repair shop, I put a couple of loops of thin shock bungee cord through the holes and then have my HDD sitting in there which prevents any vibration from getting to the case. I have a Fractal Define S so there is a fair bit of room for this at the front, it may be trickier in other cases. Eventually I will have an SSD only system though. Second mod which is excellent fun IMO, is to remove the stock fans from your GPU, and zip tie a couple of 120mm case fans directly to the heatsink. There are certain kinds of fans that you will want to avoid due to vibration issues (Corsair ML120s work very well for me), and you will want an adapter cable to have the fans powered and controlled from the the GPU PCB. There are a bunch of fiddly things to watch out for and little tips I can give, if anyone is similarly crazy about noise as me and wants to do these mods, then do send me a message and I can help with my experiences and maybe send some pics if that's useful. :)
Yeah I saw that :P I actually did the mod last year to a MSI R9 390, currently I've got it on a 1080 FTW. It works particularly well when there is a big beefy heatsink in my experience, the EVGA 1080 FTW's heatsink is disappointingly slim compared the 390's. I think the best candidate for this is whatever the cheapest card with the fattest heatsink you can find on eBay, fan quality be damned.
I have that case. It's silent. Would recommend 100%. Getting a liquid cooled GPU and cooler unit for CPU is totally worth it for sound. 1 case fan on a radiator for GPU running at 50% can keep it at literally half the temp of 3 inbuilt fans running at 100%. Pumps make zero noise anyway if they're not cheap and the case is glass.
Here’s the thing; I didn’t build my pc. It usually was pretty quiet. Idk what’s changed but it’s now loud, awkward, and I’ve no clue what’s making these sounds because the fans all work fine and appears normal inside. Nothing looks off except maybe some dust here and there. I’m not building anything, don’t have a clue about what causes this because it doesn’t sound like a fan.
I have the same issue. At start up of the PC, there’s a terrible sound coming from the exhaust fan in the back that lasts about a minute and a half before going away. Then, now, I have a buzzing sound coming from it which is fixed by me opening and closing the case door.
140mm fan is important. Its quieter than 120mm fan. I used a 140mm Noctua and 420mm ( 3x 140mm fan) Arctic Liquid Freezer 420 and its quiet even at the full load. Even tower fan is louder than my pc
I stopped my computer from overclocking automatically and set the voltage like ten percent lower and running the automatic fan tuner made a bigger difference by far.
I upgraded from my phenom pc which would get very loud even at ilde, now my new intel i7 pc is super silent even at heavy loads, i think every thing on your pc makes an impact on the noice it makes i.e from the case, hdd, psu, fans and heatsink, i built my pc from scratch and i must say I'm very happy with my built and how silent it is even when overclocked to its max(4ghz)
You, my dear friend, just saved me a lot of noise and money. Thanks, the auto fan curve set by the MSI command center is great. Edit: it ramps the fans at 69% utilization xD
Thank you so much for this video! Up until now i didn't know that my 460x rgb's fans could be controlled in the bios, it is so much quieter now, which makes all the difference since I use open back headphones :D
There are cases with silicone grommets for disk drives, that are very effective for keeping their noise down. My new case doesn't have them, but the sound of four disk drives in an array hasn't been bothering me yet. I kind of like the sound.
My case has a button on it..press it for fast or slow fan speeds...nice and simple. Of course if you forget to switch it to fast while gaming the rig bursts into flames and burns the house down.
What I want is that expensive sounding computer sound of a cooling system that used to be present in the 90s; there used to be this custom shop near me where the machines made a sound that just sounded expensive, its great if you suffer from tinnitus
just added some be quiet light fans to my case. I did a db reading, with the meter sitting on top of my case, I got 43db, with the meter sitting beside my case it was 37db - this was while surfing the web and not while pc was under hard load - (not sure i can max my system as I'm not a gamer and really don't load it up much with my using it).
I don’t know about all you guys, but my Thermaltake core x9 is a monster of a pc and I actually like the noise it makes. By all means I run quality Thermaltake riing fans (18 on my case) id rather run my fans on full speed and DC. At the end of the day I personally like performance over sound, not to mention 90% of the time I’m on headphones so it’s a win win situation for me lol.
My case have a tempred glass side panel and its makes noise when system goes on full load state... I tried to use some sticky seam stucks for side panel and its so much better now
I'm personally also going with a Corsair 460x as well, but I'll be switching the fans out with a Corsair HYDRO series so my CPU can get the max cooling.
The 1st option is to turn off the fan in the bios setting which I never do I usually use my thermal profile on my hp envy but it helps to keep my fan on so I know when my fans speed up & such!
I run my 9 fans at 300 RPM or so and GPU and PSU zero RPM until they hit a thermal threshold then ramp up as needed, not like I hear them anyway as my room fan is louder than my system even with all fans at 100%.
Lol the massive change in tone and style from a video from 3 years ago compared to your current videos is astonishing. You're much more confident and lively nowadays where as in this video your mostly stoic and dull.
Define R5 case plus noctua nh-d15. Pressurised case with positive air flow and minimal fans to maintain desired idle/load temps Edit. Forget 7200rpm+ drives. Stick to silent 5400rpm and SSDs
i don't recommend using fan tuning software in my case at least it made thermals worse and my pc ended up being louder i usually get 32-35 degrees(CPU TEMPS) for everyday use and occasional spikes but when i used fan tune software it ended up being far louder and i had 40+ degrees for everyday use running benchmarks (CPU-Z) i'd usually have my temps go no higher than 56 with the fan tuning software i got all the way up to 90 degrees and this is for a quick 1 minute benchmark 0/10 would not recommend unless you want your PC to thermal throttle worse than a mac book
(pin this please) If you bought a prebuilt Alienwear PC go onto the icon and click on it to open it up if you then look at the bottom and press “Thermal” and set it to balanced or quiet it will work
Careful running that AI Suite tuning. I have an H100i V2 plugged into the CPU fan header and while it works out what the fans are capable of, it stops them for awhile. Including the fans on the Radiator, causing the CPU to overheat and reboot the machine.
You'd want the pump plugged into a Pump header, and the two fans in CPU fan & CPU OPT :) Otherwise you can disable any auto fan off (which is disabled by default normally)
Thanks Marcus, I indeed tried that setup when I put it together; but then got boot warnings about no CPU fan detected. I like ASUS hardware, but their software always sucks.
Step one, buy overkill gpu. Bought a rog strix rx 5700 xt and the fans for cooling never turn on. Probably because the heat sync is huge. I like the peace and quiet.
I spent on NZXT grid, huge cooler for CPU (can be passive) and very silent GPU, but I forgot the corsair cx PSU wich sounds like a airbus engine :D I have never seen a case with well made HDD noise supression, now I have a piece of foam (plastic foam) and HDD on top of it = totally quiet but you must remove HDD before manipulating with the case :D
i have that same case I think (corsair?) And like a year after I got it, the fans start making this awful sound. Great case, awesome design, but the one fan does it for like 5 minutes until you touch the fan blade to stop it, then it's normal. The case has a screen in front of the fans to block the dust which is awesome cause i just run a big fat heatsink, screw the hassle of liquid, i ain't dealing with that
My Corsair LL120 fans are meant to be very quiet, and other people have been doing fine with them. I wonder why my LL120 fans are so loud. I checked the UEFI, and set all the fans to the lowest, and for some reason one fan is at 4000rpm when it shouldn't be.
Is you cpu fan sucking or blowing? I hope it's sucking, but I think it would make more sense to push air out the back exhaust by repositioning the cpu cooler.
As an audio engineer student, I find PC a better alternative to Macbooks (Which in a lot of the cases run fans like mad and make equal if not more noise) So finding the most quietest of system builds is quite crucial when it comes to a home studio.
No, it does :) Your point is there's no use in trying to get the quietest build, right? Turn off your PC, it won't make any noise, well I think it can be important to have a really quiet build. Where have I gone wrong in that? Ahah.
Recently bought a new PC that was supposed to be pretty silent. My ambient noise (according to my mobiel app) is 22dB, when my PC runs the PSU is by far the loudest component in my system which takes it to 25/26dB at around 2 feet from my case and at load my system hits close to 28/29dB. Are those levels considered silent?
I am wondering if you put the case for the sake of the video or you actually have it there! I am sure it’s for the video, you wouldn’t wanna block the sound from those beautiful B&Ws.
You missed power supply - EVGA P2 is silent (has a fan) but it never activates. I had an XFX 850w and the fan on that thing was as loud as my GPU under load
I'm pretty sure my problem is the case being in resonance with the fan. The fan itself has no vibration, but when I press my finger right behind it, the noise stops. I just can't find a way to control the rpm of the system fan...
my pc is like an aeroplane and I dont know why. I have checked the temp of the CPU and other parts and they are pretty cool. I guess I just have a loud fan...

no no no... you need rgb. it raises your fps 98%
I believe the problem within mine is the hard drive, my desk vibrates during a game which causes me to be dristracted in game
I am wondering if you put the case for the sake of the video or you actually have it there!
I am sure it’s for the video, you wouldn’t wanna block the sound from those beautiful B&Ws.
+Zafar Ansari Nooo, just for the video! I'm all about that stereo sound 😉
You missed power supply - EVGA P2 is silent (has a fan) but it never activates. I had an XFX 850w and the fan on that thing was as loud as my GPU under load
Talking about making things more quiet; That speaker placement is not great. Looks cool but the pc is kinda in the way :')
I put a drop of oil into the fan bearings which reduces noise noticably.
Really or is this troll
@@jucctin5243 troll.....it will kill your fan or other things in your system
TWO BRACKETS its not a troll. search it up
My oc’ed 8700k and 2080ti would like to talk to you
“ My pc sound like an airport “
I'm pretty sure my problem is the case being in resonance with the fan. The fan itself has no vibration, but when I press my finger right behind it, the noise stops. I just can't find a way to control the rpm of the system fan...
my pc is like an aeroplane and I dont know why. I have checked the temp of the CPU and other parts and they are pretty cool. I guess I just have a loud fan...
