When this review started out I was confused and looking for an afro. All fun aside , it’s looking like Nikon is developing some very nice performing lenses. Especially for video. No focus breathing is nice . I understand they are focus by wire so how easy is it to do manual focus pulls with this lens . Also what’s the word on Nikon updating the firmware in all their Zed mount lenses for good manual focus pulls in video ? And how is this lens when zooming during video? Does it stay in focus? Par focal I guess is what that is called .
    Thanks for your great reviews

I would say that the Z 24-70 f/2.8 S is probably Nikons greatest 24-70. Maybe not necessarily the best among what's out there for other brands, but as far as I'm concerned, it's the best one yet out of the 3 I've owned (first the older 2.8G ED version, then the 2.8E version--the most current F-mount version, and now the Z version).

I do wonder if buying the Z6 whether the f4 is a far wiser choice when considering its about $900 when purchased with the body vs about $3,200 for the f2.8. I would go Z6 + F2.8. You're probably going to upgrade the body in a few years but this lens should last 4 times that, and have a better resale value if you ever decide to sell it. If the slower AF speed is okay with you , the Z6 F2.8 combo should offer some great low light capability and less noise overall.

you are saying the auto focus speed or response is slow, can this be because in a dslr there is a Seperate focus electronics (engine) which makes the speed faster than a mirror less camera, which presumably would do everything off the main chip from the sensor itself, and hence have a slower response due to prioritizing the time of the chip to many duties.

As a landscape and product STILLS X-T3 shooter (no video), I have been debating on selling my Fuji kit (reluctantly), and moving into FF, specifically the Nikon Z7 (or the Sony a7Rlll). Since I shoot 99% tripod-mounted, neither IBIS nor video interests me. So, my question is, for large print output (around 24"x 36" prints), how much of an improvement in terms of image sharpness, detail rendition, dynamic range, base ISO performance, etc., would I see over the already excellent X-T3? Thanks for taking a swipe at those obnoxious "reviewers" on this platform. 👍👍👍
Just needed to throw in some background RGB and it would have been the full package.

    Hi Chris,
I know you are busy with photoshoots, family, filming reviews etc. but i really need your guidance here.
I have ordered fuji xt30 and its going to arrive on 8th august approx.
i was quite sure about the fuji xt30 with 16mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 untill i saw videos on sony a6400.
I m mainly into photography and have no interest in vlogging or videography. My main concerns are image quality, ergonomics (comfortable to handle), ease of use.
Plus the camera and lens combination that i have been planning is expensive on fujifilm side compared to sonya6400+sigma 1.6mm f1.4 and sigma 56mm f1.4.
I would really appreciate it if you please help me on this as soon as you can.
    Thank you so much Chris

The Fuji is better built, has far better handling, more rugged, better supported so stick with what you ordered and forget comparing any cameras. it only distracts you from what really matters; light, composition, and point of view. If you capture a great image or a poor image, it is not the camera, it is you. Every camera made today is perfectly capable of award-winning images. Most of the differences now are just handling and a few features that make no difference.

Nice to see Nikon producing some great lenses for the s line up. If only they were more competitive on price when they launched they could be killing it now. In my humble opinion if they had gone z7 £2400 z6 £1900 35 1.8s £490 50 1.8s £490 24-70 f4 £600 24-70 2.8 £1300 they would have placed themselves in such a good position. You can’t gain or your financial losses with a new product you have to play the long game.

Was that a walk and talk gimbal shot near the end, or did Jordan lean to moonwalk on grass? If so, what gimbal or kind of grass was that?
