- Rajan Datar finds out what it will be like to get on a plane after the world finally emerges from lockdown, how New York’s famous yellow cabs are dealing with the new normal and why social distancing is not a problem at the usually packed ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
I miss traveling so much.
I know can’t see us getting abroad this year
"It depends on who you talk to" that statement is very 👍
Itching to travel again soon. Glad to know know Mike is back in F'ton. Sitting still here can't be easy when there is so much to explore.
I was literally walking that street (Pub st) in Siem Reap just in February. It's crazy how empty it is D:
The entire world is very quiet now, hope the virus will go away soon
What sad times this industry is going through.
Love this episode and missing Mike travelling especially in the Philippines❤️
I'm happy I did all my long-distance overseas travel last year. Had I waited another year, it wouldn't have been possible. This year it's time to focus on local provincial travel.
Naw, Francois, please Keep your behind indoors. We don't want asymptomatic folk traveling at all. You don't need to be going anywhere except to your local supermarket . We are dying out here. Young people are infecting us left and right . I kept seeing 3-4 young adults gathering each day.
Lechiffresix six let’s all stay home so people will never die again
So glad I went to Angkor Wat Sept 2018, had a great time and shopping.
Here in the US, people can slowly venture out to national parks ⛰🏞🏜 such as grand canyon, Zion national parks, Bryce Canyon which are open with restrictions. National Parks can maintain social distancing, we need fresh air and vitamin D
What about the fact that fuel is much cheaper now??
I’m in Peru right (I’m from UK). We are still on lockdown. I’ve been trying to get a flight home. I have booked flights in June but they were cancelled. There are no flights until July.
Air conditioning is probably the worst thing you could have to sit through anywhere. All they do is re-circulate the air already in the vicinity. What I want to know is, how often are the filters changed? Also spraying with disinfectant shouldn't be instead of thoroughly cleaning the aircraft, how often is that done I wonder
I love the topic of this episode...specially the map that people makes...its amazing...thank you...pls do more episode like this expand the topic...although we know traveling right now is not safe...and the budget to travel is tight as we have tapped our holiday savings due to lockdown...it is still good to watch topic like this as it gives us hope that one day soon...we will be back to travelling...
I really miss travelling. This year would have been my biggest year for travel, i work full-time and i save all my vacation days and money for this year. My trips to Japan (Childhood dream to experience Sakura), The Philippines (to visit my 86yo mother) and South Korea was cancelled last April. I have another upcoming trip to Peru (Lima and Cusco/Manchu Picchu) and Rio, Brazil but i don't think that will happen. Now i am jobless because of the lockdown. It would be difficult for me to travel again in the next 2 years. I understand that it's a global crisis, it's just frustrating badly affecting many lives. 😔💔
do you use public money to travel?
@@renatovarnariano2233 Hard earned money. As i've said i work full-time and saved up money for the trip. 😉
Just prioritize trying to see your mom when you can, that shouldn't be too expensive if you stay with her
@@nordette Will do! When it's already safe to travel. We are worried that we will bring the virus to her. Thanks!
Has to be one of the best episodes yet. Thank you
thank you
@@BBCTravelShow no. Thank you.
Cambodia is open for tourism now! I just put it in my video with 10 countries you can travel to during the pandemic.
Excellent 👍🏻
Somebody stands behind all this.
Hell gates is one of them.
I’m stuck in BCN trying to visit my brother in Norway, but seems like they not letting people in yet. So maybe we are gonna have to go back to Uruguay..
Not for nothing, but everything they are doing is a waste of time. This virus is dangerous for elderly and those with immunological deficiencies. If airfares become too expensive and with people losing a lot of income, how will business succeed?
it not the end of the world.... we just had to upgrade our tech...
the won't
Lucky I cleared all my dream locations last year. Traveling like I’m going to a surgery room is not in my plans. Can Rest In Peace now
I believe the rest of the year is going to be the best time to travel in decades. It's going to be absolutely fantastic!
Think about it: Fewer tourists in those super crowded popular places such as Amsterdam, London, New York, Paris, cheaper prices, less queues at the main attractions... I can't wait for it!
But flights are going to be quite expensive, hotel might be as well.
Sounds blissful... reasonably clean aircraft , pools and beaches that aren’t crowded , calm dining room in hotels .. list goes on ....
@Dorian Mode Well I genuinely hope that you haven't just started using hand sanitizer because of the virus. I've always been using it, it's so simple
@@claramurphy1336 exactly! There a saying that "we should be greedy when others are fearful" which was originally meant for investing but it applies so well go this situation as well. We'll have whole cities to ourselves
@@MP-ck6nx No need to be arrogant, lets see how 'fantastic' your travelling is going to be when the whole city goes into lockdown and you spend months in a hotel room. I'm afraid hand sanitizer isn't going to save you from that...
Good episode, empty seats won't make much difference but bargain prices will. Bring the discounts :D
Im going on a 139$ flight to cali
The prices will go up as it said in the video
Hy I'm mountain guide from Nepal🇳🇵 , Nepal country of mt everest , also birth place of buddha , but now 0 tourism here because of virus.. hope this virus well be finest soon and we tourism came back here
Most people are morons, they accept being treated like sheep before slaughter. So sad, internet didn't make them any smarter obviously
If the people want to fly with social distancing, so that those people must buy their own aircraft. Or if those people want to fly with a middle seat empty, so those people must buy their seat and the middle seat, I think that's fair.
The problem is airlines will not allow you to buy the seat next to/ in front/ back of you which can be quite expensive but perhaps affordable. Flying private is just too expensive for most people. For example, to fly from LA to NYC in economy nonstop it cost $300 round trip. So let's say if I want to buy 9 seats (3 in front, my row, and 3 in back) that cost $2700 which is very expensive but with a stretch, do able for people if they have an emergency and need to fly across country. To fly private for 5 hours, that means it'll cost you $25,000 which is not doable for regular people.
Taking out the middle seat would mean an increase in fares of 50%! How come? Still 2/3 of the seats in use!
Yes, where is the math behind this?
@@myxochi The added cleaning crew/supplies, more labor, possible longer air-craft parking time, hopefully it's examined/inspected before they load passengers again....:)
Say each ticket earlier was worth $1 earlier. So for 3 adjacent seats, it is $3.
With only 2 out of 3 seats filled, the price of each ticket to obtain the original $3 would be $1.5 now, which is a 50% increase over the original $1.
@Captain Arthur Phillip does this factor in lighter load = less fuel, or is that negligible?
I do not understand how the decontamination tanks (as stated in Hong Kong airport) will kill the virus if the virus is inside the body. Please expand.
It will kill only the part that is on the body, clothing, shoes, decreasing the possibility of transmitting it if you are only a carrier.
They said it will only kill germs and microbes on the exposed parts of your body.
fighterboys-philippine part 4 when mike?
Very interesting and informative video. Thanks for sharing!
I love dogs with jobs! So cute.
I feel for these cab drivers. Be safe .
Just make sure you don't cough on the plain because your gonna get treat like a criminal
Just wear your mask.

yes quite a few passengers about 70 % full..
and yes transit through SK airports is allowed
i preferred the future in the past, it was so much more fun
Hopefully, everyone will be able to start travelling again soon.
I remember that after 9/11 liquids weren’t allow and now we have to temp measurements
The makings of a New World order. . .
The air fliter of airplane is not safe. The HEPA air filter has been designed for capturing dust. The size of corona virus is 0.1micron which is smaller than the common HEPA filter (0.3 micron) of air craft. Even though a much higher quality HEPA filter is used, two caveats are still concerned. 1.the recirculated air with covid19 can be penetrated by high pressure difference. Thus, you need to wear N95 mask all the time inside the airplane in order to lessn possiblity of infection. 2. If a super HEPA filter can capture 99.99%, then the covid virus would be remained in the filter. So, new aviation regulation is required for replacing HEPA filter at each journey.
J Cho ,thank you first the info .I have no choise I'm flying out in July to my home .
@@teresitauy5532 Safe journey to home. I recommend you to check the air nozzles surrounding you in the airplane if those are pointing you. Then turn the nozzle off if there is any.
I love traveling nothing will stop me
Dorian Mode everything open again it’s a matter of time lol
same bro.. where you from?
Come to Sweden, we're still open for those coming from EU/Schengen/EEA countries and the UK for that matter! I greet all people who want to come welcome!
No thanks. Too risky at my age.
Go the Swedes!. Plan B for me is to move to Sweden if a semblance of sanity does not return to either Australia or the UK
hahahahaha Rajan, did put on the left glove right.
This is a great idea. Well done.
Well little did you know I can't afford to fly. HAHAHAHA
I don't care, I want to reunite with my husband, I'm flying this July 😑
but how when everything is lockdown and all airpots are close, me too i wanna prepare my visa to go to Belgium. However, im so daunting just waiting for the visa center to open; or just to give us a clue what's going to happen
I wish you luck in avoiding the virus o/
Of course, your husband needs to get laid

@@honoratski wth, is that all you think about. 😑
Can we talk about how he wears gloves?
P.s. I counted 10 fingers....
the temperature screening at 3:08 seems a bit low, how is 34.53C accurate, if you are really 34.53C you would be just as sick (Hypothermia) as someone with fever
You take the middle seat... and what about the person behind me?! Its less than 1m away from me and breathing directly on me!..
Yes and like the people in front!!! I was on a flight once w my parents and the girl sitting in front of us was sick and coughing. We all got sick.
People who have obvious symptoms of being sick, such as coughing/runny nose shouldn’t be allowed to fly. Who knows what they may have. I’ve seen many videos of people flying during the pandemic and can hear other passengers coughing in the background.. and people should be taught how to contain their sneezes and coughs effectively since sometimes it does just happen randomly. A lot of people barely cover. You really have to cover firmly into a napkin or your elbow to minimize germs flying out in the surrounding air
About 15 years ago I worked as a long term schedule planner in the airline industry for about 7 years so I´m still very much following what is happening in general in the airline business. I´m still wondering and asking myself how much will be changed in....let´s say - 1 year from now, if we´re lucky and Covid-19 disappears at the end of this year. How much will be changed? Will there be less business travel via aircraft? Will there be a reduction in people flying far away on their vacation? What I mean is that I hear many people talking about how Corona will change everything forever, but I´m not really sure that will happen. I mean we had Sars / bird flu and other viruses too - and they did NOT change the industry or the world for good. I know Covid-19 has probably been more severe than SARS etc. - but when I look at myself - I personally would not be afraid to travel far away on a vacation as soon as Covid-19 has reached an unsignificant level. From my previous work I still know some planners who are working for airlines and I know they are worried about their future.
I could be TOTALLY wrong - but my best guess is that we are back to what we could call "a normal state" in about a year or so. Will there be sanitizers everywhere? Yes, probabaly. Will there be changed precautions and changes in the airports, check-in etc.? Yeah I think so. But I honestly don´t think it will change the way we travel very significantly.
I DO know that Covid-19 has killed many people, and even healthy people can be hit very hard by the virus. But for me personally I won´t let that affect the rest of my life, so I get scared travelling abroad. Life is too short for that - but I will take my precautions when I get home from i.e. a vacation in South East Asia and I will not be around elderly or sick people within 2 weeks from when I come home.
Who else noticed that they didn't mention any place in Africa ???
who else noticed that bbc is a British form of media and that they didnt mention a country in a global pandemic?
that put me right off flying. If i'd known the future, i'd have bought a computer that worked instead of a holiday lol but i'm not big for the internet so i thought, ten years old broken but works, fine

i'd like a choice: expensive and safe, or cheap and risky!
So you get detected with a high temperature or sniffed out by the dog, then what?
Then you are doomed for quarantine, isolated and.....

exactly lol, no refunds and the temperature scanner is completely inaccurate (34C?) is like extreme hypothermia. You would be DOOMED

UK 'to bring in 14-day quarantine' for air passengers......No Future.
@@Avgeek1564 Wrong.... Are you one who now thinks the lock down was to stop the virus? Well it wasn't, it was to stop a run on the hospitals, nothing more. They wanted people to get sick at the proper time, not that they wouldn't get sick. It's a virus, it's here, you live on planet earth, you can not escape it.
Travel addict ,yes 14 days quarantine, except Spain. So,if you only have 2 weeks vacation time ,you already lost 14 days ,forget that ,stay in.
Time will tell if flying around is safe or not. Personnally I'll wait and see...

sad how everywhere in the world has this but in the us when you arrive you just walk past immigration without anything
Social distancing on plane does not exist.
All the 6 feet on the ground is theatre. Security is theatre. This is show and tell to show that it is safe.
It is NOT safe.
Well said!
Correct, because life is not safe. There is nothing a company, person or government can do to make you safe, as it doesn't exist. All that security at the airports though is for show, it is to make people feel good... nothing more.
Guri Singh stay f...k sake at home and stop nagging .
"The air quality on an aircraft is comparable with the air in a hospital operating theater " Poppycock!
lol if it was comparable with the air in a hopsital operating theatre, then that means lots of viral particles so yeah bullshit
I have done a lot of travelling. Do you think if a persons hygeine is low (smells) should they be turned away from a plane, coach, taxi, ferry, hotel until gone and washed or rechanged clothing. Do you think guests in hotels, villas should have rules so when check out they do not leave the room like a tip as spreads germs , maybe a warning of a sanction if they urinated the room for example and left it absolutely filthy for the vulnerable cleaners (I mean really filthy) and cleaners could take photos. I also think when people check in to hotels maybe more staggering times to reduce queues or some rules at each hotel where people sit at chairs and receptionist calls their names to reception one by one or two and the reception desk and the concierge desk could be used also as a receptionist desk.. think reception desk areas need a lot of cleaning as people hang around there, lean on the desk, use pens, fill in book in forms, touch paper, stick elbows on desk (we all have done it) bar areas, tables, chairs high standards of cleaning and maybe employ separate cleaners for this (do not forget taxi, buggy's, tourist buses, tourist jeeps, tourist boat trips etc)
Everyone i know will travel they have put money aside until less restrictions as if going 5 star they are paying for restaurants and different bars and no good until improves as wont be able to use services, the guests will be watching for cleaning and public toilets in UK or abroad need reviewing as big hygeine risk maybe rules wear everyone wears footwear when wandering around pool and bar areas, maybe before each guest enters dining room and bars, at the door they put gel on hands in front of a supervisor, maybe offer more cleaning services at hotels, villas, tourist areas, travel staff should regularly wash and shower also ie airlines (rechange uniform and have spare uniforms and toiletries and in hotels and bars staff high standard of uniform and spare uniforms if do longer shifts as people will be watching and seing staff put on hand gel also in front of customer, maybe coffee in plastic cups for a while throw it away, maybe a option of a shower if pay for a lounge at an airport, or maybe posters, tv screens, a you tube vide0 recommending people to wash before getting on the plane (maybe bring own small toiletries from home to reduce allergy and infection also) and changing some clothing for example, yes it is a matter of choice and time, but i think people should have to come a bit earlier to check in so can do these things, maybe at airport have people sometimes given out small free hand gels until the problem decreases more and review every few weeks, When people buy suit cases (a sign in the case advising them to clean case, instructions, cleaning of case inside and outside before a trip, maybe when get to resort and when get home) as cases near other cases at airports, luggage cuboards etc.(plus hand luggage) these are just options which some may take up and strict cleaning of hand wash basis, taps (however aware some people are dirty so it is difficult) also all drug dogs at airports should be looked after to a high standard large bed areas, blankets clean carriers, jabs, de flea, shampoo and well inspected and not kept in a tiny cage in a heat and good food and fluids and well cared for (do not forget vending machine cleaning and internet cafes at transport areas and space invader machines, public telephones (all the hands touching these buttons) we only think about it now and doors (unless automatic) maybe a garden like some airports where people outside more before a flight where can drink outside and encourage this (if people are homeless and sleeping at airports maybe a floor level designated for them) just a few thoughts and ideas
Tell customers no fevers on planes, make sure you test them and have them sign that they haven't taken Tylenol for 3 days. This is a proper quarantine procedure.
The problem is if tickets are expensive people cant fly. People will be making a lot less money if they even have a job. In the future there will be less airlines and Leds planes. I predict a permanent 20% increase over the next few years assuming countries subsidize..
Doubling airfares is not just viable but sensible to reduce the numbers of flights to reduce carbon emissions. We don't need all the stag/hen party w/e as at present
The common lifestyles will definitely change after covid-19. Hope we gonna get use to it soon and wish all of us will respond to each other. It’s so funny that I heard someone still think about covid 19 and quarantine are political. Man!! what ever!! Staying safe. I want summer holiday and missing my travel. There is no requirement for passengers to wear masks.
Mrrossj01 I would research more. Over 15 airlines in the USA require masks from the gate to the destination.

dogs cant catch the virus fortunately but they can spread it

What about the 5g theory
what about it? its dummer than this
I feel like my skin is dying of all these disinfectants... please stop... I'm not saying catching a virus is healthier, but this shit is awful...
Masks, gloves , goggles, temperature measuring plus the other security checks this is insanity and will be so stressful and so uncomfortable No thank you !!! How can you breath throughout the flight with mask on or go to the loo..?? Maybe the flight attendant instead of serving food will come to you in a space suit and spray you with disinfectant...That definately is not OK..!!!
well firstly no food is served and depending on where you're going i think i can handle a few checks if i really needed to travel
What a load of bollocks this is.....as soon as the number of travellers progressively increase the airlines will throw caution to the wind for the sake of profits! Just remember the old saying ‘you fly at your own risk’.
Coronavirus finish nothing again, why use masker, God Love for all Human
Medical detection dogs??? Why aren't they put to use for massive testing instead??? Utter codswallop...
Pilots flying with masks and gloves... you call this SAFETY??? Also who proved that all this desinfection is good for our health & immune system /especially for the crew that is exposed on this every day?!!!/ Any research on this yet?!
i would take you much more seriously mate if you'd wear a mask properly, THE ENTIRE TIME -__-
So why are flights still rammed with passengers...the usual BBC blah blah..the problem is recirculated air !!!
those sniffing dogs could get covid....
I do like the idea of Covid sniffer dogs. A little extreme but the dog must be an attack dog. We want to ensure the carrier is taken down to the floor before they spread the disease onto others.
Not very nice if dogs going to snif around. Looking like drug mules.
