Got a P0300, two spark plugs were loose. Tightened both and then got a P0306. Checked that spark plug (which was one of the two which were loose) and the porcelain was half broken off the plug, causing arcing. Replaced #6 plug with a new one and no more SES light.

A '98 van that I got about a month ago misfires when warmed up. I couldn't figure out why until after reading/watching about looking for arcing at night. So I decided to do that and sure enough, there was arcing on the transmission fill tube from the ignition coil. I moved it out of the way so that it wouldn't arc thinking that would fix it (I thought it was coming from underneath the coil wire boot). When I checked again, it was arcing from the side of the center part of the coil to the outer metal square around it. There were 3 different arcs on one side, not sure about the other side. Going to get a new coil at the end of this week hopefully and see if that fixes it. My spark plugs (NGK TR5 V Powers) were also gapped improperly (I think). Some were gapped at 30 and some 40 and my manual says 60 but not sure if these plugs have to be gapped for this engine (60) or if they were supposed to be pre-gapped at 40. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

You all should know that newer model cars can be control over Bluetooth or internet or a scanner and the check engine light is being controlled to come on so you will carry the car back to the dealership and they will take your money and not fix the problem except for a few days after that it will come back on

it is very instructive did mostly all of the test and what confuse me is the fact when cold engine start good a minute running than rough idle hold accelerator rpm to 2000 for about 4 minutes temp of engine come up to normal and engine run very good all day till cooling off overnight what could be the problem?? I only got the P0300 code onto the OBD2 code reader that show. while engine run rough I also get service traction system than it goes away when engine run good.
Thank. I am on that for about two weeks now still drive the car and it run good when warm.

+East17A This video es pretty good... Sources who are familiar with fixing cars like shops, dealerships, internet conclude many many reasons, Even if the gas tank cap is not thigh enough, it could trigger check engine service P0300 OBD error code. Before replacing parts randomly and the car shops guessing, it is best to have the car dealer technicians do a complete test and only then start replacing parts.
